Rules for reporting posts - please advise

I recognize, Alpal, when someone said "opossum woman" who got along very well with Elizabeth. However, Elizabeth was different. I haven't read the rest of the pages. I will read them later...did someone mention a "daisy"? I can't remember.
-
nurse-ann, a sock puppet is when a person creates two online identities to talk to each other, pat each other on the back, etc.
Shirley, believe me I am not making any accusations as to who reported Elizabeth's posts, or as to who has reported any posts recently. I really mentioned Elizabeth precisely because she was universally loved -- except by whoever reported those posts -- and therefore I thought this example of how the "Report This Post" function can go horribly wrong, and hurt someone beautiful at a very vulnerable time, could bring us all together in asking that the function be retired or "fixed" in some way. I have no idea who reports posts -- that's why I don't think it should be anonymous, because it creates such disasters.
I know you and Daisy and ljh58 loved Elizabeth -- and believe me, I did too, and so did Blue and all of us. I was not making any accusations -- I was pointing out that this system allows anonymous people to hurt innocent people. I have no idea who those anonymous people were.
Finally, I was trying to make the point -- maybe I expressed myself badly the first time, so let me try again -- that I have noticed "blow-ups" on this Board for many years (and not always between defined "camps" of people, just blow-ups) at a time when a lot of passings have occurred in clusters. I have noticed "blow-ups" between friends in real life as they walk away from a funeral. I was trying to say -- can we please look within ourselves to be aware of how much we are hurting, and please be kind to others who are hurting too?

Shirley ... if that woman you are talking about had a name something like CountryLady (?) she did come back to the board
Yes, WR, and it did no good to "yell" at her or condemn her because in the end she did what she wanted. And then it was too late. What good does it do to condemn or insult or be rude to another opinion about tx instead of trying to be understanding. And don't forget, the lady you gals or some of you gals were after said her dh was a Chiropractor. Having a friend who is a Chiropractor, I know how they think and believe. My nephew is also a Chiropractor.

Yes, Ann, I did see. That's why I told you to google it. Apparently, you didn't need to. There are some posters on here who have had more personalities than Sybil ever hoped to have. In fact they keep coming back after being permanently banned. And I mean banned by the mods, not banned by a computer program. One of them is back yet again. As I'm sure you know, multiple IDs is not listed as a violation of BCO rules. I'll never understand why. Blue gave herself a new ID after being banned by the computer after 20 of her posts were deleted. She broke no rule and did not use her ID to report posts. The mods have reinstated her but apparently the software hasn't gotten the message yet.
I think it's time to stuff a sock puppet in this discussion.
-
I don't give a hoot who or what anyone's husband is - that does not give her the right to make blanket statements like "Chemo never works". And that is exactly what she said. Do you honestly think that's ok? Did you recognize any of those names?
-
Shirley - no one is using KK - they just pointed out that she had been banned once before for no reason. How is that using her? She was one special lady and I know she would be joining in here to defend blue if she were still with us.
-
Shirley ... it appears that neither approach worked. Neither kindness or tough love ... and it was sad.
The difference this time was that the person was giving advice to others as though she was an expert ... that was what was being argued. Not her freedom to do what she wanted for herself. There is a big difference.
-
[Oh, cr*p. Late again. Never mind. We just finished watching "Terminator".]
-
And I know KK defended Shirley, too... I'm just saying it's really time to reconsider this "report post anonymously - automatic deletion - automatic suspension - automatic ban" thing. It hurts everyone it happens too, and nobody here needs that. Especially since it seems it's not needed to prevent spam anymore.

AnnNYC:
Yes, that was my point exactly when several people descended on the "Update" thread and had a Stage IV woman banned from the website! I'm glad we agree!
-
Yes, I did agree with you about that previously, nurse-ann. I did report one of those posts -- I told you I did, and why, so it's not anonymous. It certainly would be preferable if the Moderators could handle egregiously offensive posts in real time (and some of those deleted posts were egregiously offensive). If not, showing the names of the reporters would certainly reduce abuse.
And honestly, I think many "reporters" may not realize the automatic banning that currently takes place. I think that's a bad system, and shouldn't have happened to _TV_. That should be the Moderators' call. Otherwise we're like Lord of the Flies here.
-
Summertyme:
I only have one more sock puppet question. How many posts does a new sock puppet get? I've never been a sock puppet - I've only ever had the one ID!
-
nurse-ann, we're all confused about the identities rule! Several years ago, we had Moderators who were very strict about multiple identities. Suddenly (after I made a big deal about someone's multiple identities
) the Mods have said it's not against the rules! Anyway, I'm sure as soon as the software glitch is resolved, Bluedahlia will be happy to resume posting under her name.(Newbies used to be limited to 5 posts a day, but that has been changed as well.)
[The thing about sock-puppets is that they never say they're the same person! They pose as supporters of each other. Or strangers who "agree"]
-
I think I like your new name better
-
Hey, summertyme... let's do an experiment. Are you, as a brand-new, wet-behind-the-ears member, able to report posts? I thought I read somewhere that new members would no longer have a posting limit (no more 5 posts-per-day rule), but they wouldn't be able to report posts.
I don't know how to conduct the experiment without having you click the "Report this Post" button on somebody's post. But, maybe if that button is on your screen and it works, you could bail out when you see the "confirmation" page that asks if you're sure you want to go ahead with the report. (In other words, don't really report a post.)
I'm just curious about that.
And, I don't remember who asked this, but, yes -- there absolutely, positively are BCO members operating with more than one member I.D. A second I.D. created like blue did to get past an illicit banning would not be a sock puppet (IMHO). It's a sock puppet if both (or more) I.D.'s are active at once, and could be used simultaneously. Can someone logon with more than one I.D. at the same time from the same computer, and be on this site with multiple identities simultaneously? That's not a sock puppet. That's a whole dang puppet show!

[Edited: Oops. Looks like blue is tuckered out. G'night!]
-
There is definitely one person with 3 active names that I know of. All you would have to do would be to use a different hotmail address for each new identity - voila - puppet show!!!
-
Ahah! So that much is true -- brand-new members (or old members' new sock puppets) cannot report posts. That's a good thing, I think.
It's getting quiet around here, so I think I'll call it a day. Hopefully it will still be (relatively) quiet tomorrow.

Probably time to leave this thread all together - we should know what the rules are now.
-
Oh Shirley
Elizabeth was upset for being banned for no reason and she is right a the top of our minds right now. We bring her into it because we loved her and hated to see her hurt by such vile actions That is all there is to it
Well I didn't read the last page before I posted thsi. Still think it's true but mayb no pertinent
-
Blue .. hope you're feeling better today and you can get back on with your 'real' name.
Interesting that newbies can't use the 'report' function. I wonder how many posts they have to have before then can use that function.

Bren, I think its 50, but not too sure. Easy to get 50 posts in the humour and games forum. One word answers. Or, the pm's were flying. BTW, I'm back and so is mrmojorisin.
-
Yes - not even if they have written as many as 20 posts, to my knowledge.
(Also want to thank the mods for reinstating my "removed by the community" post on the "Survivors" thread. Just logged into my other e-mail account and saw the notice - thanks!)
