Best Bra

Options

Hi Ladies,  I am nine weeks out from my BMX and I have been wearing silicon forms and they have been ok.  I want to wear microbead forms in the summer as I think the silicone ones will be too hot and heavy.

My problem is that I have some loose skin under my arms(size 20 on the top before surgery) and when I try the microbead form in my bras it looks odd because there is the form and then a gap and then this bulge of skin.  The bras I am using as soft sided and I am wondering if gettin a bra with more support at the side would work better.  Has anyone had this issue? If so how did you get round it.

    Hi Kezzie,

I see that you live in Roslindale. You might try going to a professional fitter. Your insurance will pay for breast forms and bras. Two places come to mind that would be pretty convenient for you--one is the Friends Boutique at Dana Farber, in the Longwood medical area. Mary is the fitter there and she's really understanding. Plus, they have a good selection. You don't have to be a patient at Dana Farber to use the Boutique. I was treated at Beth Israel Deaconess, but bought forms there.

Another option is a Lady Grace store - probably the one in Brookline is closest to you. It's on Beacon Street near Coolidge Corner. Audrey is a good fitter who works there. And there are other fitters there, too. It's both a regular lingerie store and a mastectomy shop.

At both these places, you have to make an appointment. They've seen all kinds of post-mastectomy situations and they should be able to help you find a way to comfortably deal with the extra skin under your arm.

    Hope this helps.

    Barbara
