Lately I find that I'm quoting Suzy all the time

"LE sucks like a hoover vacuum cleaner"

"Obsess, assess and compress"

I also use NatsFan's line about MLD a lot:

"Lymphatic fluid is slow and stupid"

Surely there are more quotable lines out there

I'm replying to my own post: how sad is that?

    Binney's badges

Binney4 wrote:Actually, Cookie, LE is such a huge subject that they offer several badges. My current faves are from Squidbillies...here's one from this past week.

"Aww, hell, that's the office. I can't believe I gotta go in on a Wednesday. " - Earlie Cuyler

This has nothing to do with LE other than the Squidbillies do resemble my kinesio tape cutouts I apply to my arm twice a week.  My avatar reflects this.  Laughing

Had to edit and say that everytime I do MLD I tell myself that lymphatic fluid is slow and stupid - I have a tendency to want to do it too fast.  It helps me tremendously!!!!  Almost as much as watching Squidbillies every night whilst I'm on the flexitouch.  Cool

Oh, do you mean his hat?  That is Earlie Cuyler in my avatar.  His hat says, "Free hat, take 1."  That's the only clean, non-offensive hat I've ever seen him wear.  He had on one one night that said, "Too frunk to duck."  I am not kidding.  He has about 400 offensive trucker hats.

The show is soooo very offensive, ribald, un-pc, tacky, bad, you name it.

It's my favorite thing right now.  Cool

Suzy, I got to google Squidbillies, this is great.

    Alright: a couple more quotes

Suzy: paraphrase "I preferred when my arm was an appendage, not a project"

A movie quote that I use all the time, from Animal House: when Dean Wormer decides to kick out John Belushi's frat he's putting them on "Double secret probation."

And, as my taste is movies is just that sophisticated, I'm fond of  quoting from "Dodgeball: the movie" --the 5 D's of dodgeball: " Dodge, duck, dip, dive and dodge", and when Ricky Gervais was in the TV show "Extras"--they parodied the movie, with Ben Stller calling it "multi-layered"

And, the day after my lumpectomy, my DH dragged me out of bed, and we watched "Spaceballs: The Movie" and I dozed off and on and woke up to Rick Moranis saying as he asked all the soldiers what their name was and all their last names were a##holes: "I'm surrounded by a##holes!"

A couple months later, while struggling with the LE, I told my PCP that it was precient that I woke up to that line, and she said that that movie was a big favorite at her house. So, when my breast surgeon said she didn't feel responsible for treating my LE: I said--"I'm surrounded....

    "I'm positive----I'm positive I hate LE"

Another one for the hit parade.

So I guess here is a good place to ask the question my son's friend asked:

"If I tell you the vacuum cleaner sucks, is it good or bad?"

    Teenagers crack me up.

Hey gals.  Haven't been here for awhile.  Thought if I stayed away it would help me stop thinking of le all the time.  As if!!  Just recovering from another flare, so I jumped back on.  Here's a quote I heard just the other day.  Was doing volunteer work and this woman ran up to me saying, "I used to have lymphedema but it went away!"  Bless her heart, she had two overstuffed sausage arms.  She kept following me around so I sat her down for "the talk."

Missed you all.  Still hate lymphedema with a heated passion.

Kane, I am so glad to see you!!!!!  I have been wondering how you were doing.  I have missed you!

I find that when I stay away from here, I just ignore my LE and turn into your friend with the sausage arms.  Denial only has short term rewards.  Yell

I am so glad you posted!  Thank you!!!

KANE!!!!! You've been missed, but it makes perfect sense to give this place a break (advice I need to take .)

Denial is a wonderful thing--her LE went away???

From the quotes: LE sucks like a hoover vacuum cleaner, and Sharon's positive-----positive she hates LE.

LE rots, and recently Joe Zuther, who has a blog and Facebook page as Lymphedema Guru, posted this article from this breast surgeon from Peoria, IL who acted like she invented SLNB and he didn't read the article carefully enough, because she also said:

"Lymphedema is not as horrible as they make it out to be. Most women have mild to moderate (symptoms.) It's not horrible."

Well, I alerted him to the line in the article and how this woman did not invent SLNB and was not anyone who should be quoted on a LE blog. And he did apologize. She's been on faculty of U of Illinois, Peoria for nearly 30 years--still assistant professor--and no direct email could be found, but Binney wrote the newspaper that she was horrified. No response.

    ARGGGHH.

Kane, welcome back to the club you never wanted to joint--hope you're judging horseshows and you've missed a lot of brownie eating under the bed with Suzy.

Geez, almost forgot to tell y'all.  Had my mammogram this week and now I'm three years bc free.  Oh for the day when le might become a thing of the past just like my surgeon said it was when I expressed my concerns.  But I digress.  Also, lost so much weight that I'm down two sizes in my Jovipak sleeve, which my le therapist thinks could have been the cause of my latest flare.  Ordered a new one yesterday.  Now I'm in a bind (ha ha ha).  Should I have the old one altered or keep it for that just in case weight gain.  Think I'll store it under the bed for awhile. Also learned a lesson.   When in flare, wrap.  Will never NOT do that again.  Glad to be back to the only ones who understand!!

Kane, while you were gone, living your life, we added a new page to stepupspeakout: Essential information on LE for healthcare providers. Suzy shared it with her breast surgeon, and he saw the light.

    http://www.stepup-speakout.org/essential%20informat%20for%20healthcare%20providers.htm

Also, last October, I fell on the sidewalk leaving a night class and broke my LE hand--was in a cast for 6 weeks. That night, as I drove home with a rapidly swelling and bruising, horribly painful hand, it felt like a nightmare. First person I called was my LE therapist--then the PCP--and was a total witch to the urgent visit doctor--told him what x-rays to order, and called the hand surgeon on my cell phone, under the sign "no cell phones" to arrange the cast (adrenaline, LE rage, pain and fear--great combo.) Anyway--I've always wrapped primarliy, and now I have to wrap to keep that hand in check. It just is what it is.

    Congratulations on three years NED!

    Judging any jumps soon?

Kira, so sorry about your hand.  As a person who falls a lot (broken right wrist, broken left hand, broken right ankle), I shudder to think what you must have gone through.  I appreciate your pluck, though.  I now wear only age appropriate shoes (mostly ugly and boring) and look down a lot when I walk.  Also got those ice thingies to put on the soles of my boots when I'm out in the slippery snow/ice.

I do not judge at horse shows but rather do other things.  I was a road crossing guard at the recent Rolex Cross Country and had a ball. My husband joined in for the first time and we were partnered with some people I worked with during the World Games.  It's quite intense for those few seconds when a horse and rider gallop through and then you party.  So, it's mainly crowd control stuff and since I'm kinda bossy by nature, it's perfect for me.  I could be a fence judge though, but would rather have fun.

With this last flare I've had a lot of trouble with my hand.  Mostly palm and fingers.  Am massaging and wrapping every night.  But here comes summer and am dreading it madly.  However, at the World Games last year, I found this vest that you dip in cold water for a short time and it keeps your core cool for up to ten hours.  It was expensive but worth it during the few hot days we had that fall.  I had no trouble with swelling during the entire games because of that vest.  It'll go lovely with my mosquito suit this summer!!!

I'll check out that new page.  Gosh I missed you all!

Oh, Suzybelle, how interesting your remark that when you stay away from here you tend to ignore your LE, etc.  Because, although I didn't ignore it exactly, I did slip a bit in my management.  First, it was one night without my Jovi which gradually turned into two, then every other.  Got away with that for quite awhile.  I did always massage twice a day but cut back on the time and neglected those exercises.  I always wore my compression garments, though.  After all, that's easy to do in winter.  But with this recent flare I had no one to share with.  My unafflicted girlfriends would try with all their might to be sympathetic, but...  And when I started to go all boggy, I'd stand in front of the mirror comparing arms, noticing the difference but never even once THINKING to wrap.  What a stupid.  Had I been here, you'd all be saying "WRAP THAT ARM, GIRL!"  So here I am back in the fold where I belong.

Great way to accessorize your mosquito suit.Tongue out I want one, though -- sounds like a summer life-saver!

Binney, the company is called Cool Medics.  They have all sorts of things from vests to hats, caps, wrist bands.  Even for horses.  When you dip it in water,  you don't actually let it soak in there until it's dripping wet.  Just a few seconds.  And, yes, it works for hours and hours.  It's wonderful.  I wore mine on top of my shirt rather than underneath cause it would be kind of bulky,  No matter the heat, I felt cool all over all day long.  I swear it kept the swelling at bay.

    Very cool--literally.

Here are their "think pink" vests

Kira, wouldn't you know, I have the "think pink" one and now I'm going through another phase of hating the breast cancer survivor club.  It's that time of year for relays, walks, runs, etc. all asking for money.  I think I gave enough by having the the damned thing and now LE.  But you'd better believe, I'll wear that vest all summer long with great pleasure.

Forgot to update yall on what happened while I was gone,  Nov, 2010, the sister I was closest to dropped dead from a heart attack while shopping.  Such a shock which is still so raw.  Also Nov. we lost our 10 year old little poodle, Coco, who suddenly became very ill and had to be euthanized.  Then early in 2011, our 14 year old Fox Terrier, Twigs, was diagnosed with cancer and lost the battle a few months later.  It's been a brutal time,  I have two sisters still on this earth and we've become much closer.  We have one dog left and he's only five so we hope to have him for a long time.  Now that we're retired, we decided that one dog is what we really can afford comfortably.  Being a multi-dog family for nearly 30 years, it's hard to resist not giving a good home to another dog who needs one, but we're trying to stick to it.
