littlemelon-I think it is the heat more than the rays when I am in the car.  The glass always seem to make it hotter and if it is directly on my left side when driving i notice it being blotchy.  And yes my ribs were sore as well.  That has gone away but my RO said it will probably come and go for a couple of years.

Jo-5 I will have to see about the window shade, sounds like it might help.

I HOPE everyone knows there is a SHINGLES VACCINE and it seems to me that ALL of us need this before treatment.  Shameful, I had to read about it in the Reader's Digest and then ASK for it.

I would strongly advise 1000mg of Vitamin C for life.  My whole family has done this for years and it helps prevent bladder infections, stys, a lot of infections.  Try it for a few days, of course, to be sure it has no affect on your stomach.

I developed a rash two weeks after finishing radiation.  Mu RO said it was an allergic reaction to something.  We just didn't know what so I had to stop the Eucerin Auqaphor, the Remedy cream and change laundry detergents to play it safe.  Rash cleared up.  While on vacation I started back itching and though I may have not rewashed some of the things over.  Forward three months later.  I had a sever allergic reaction again.  I had started back with Tide that week, I was getting my arm wrapped for LE, I also had just gotten my silicone foob, and the PT was using Eucerin cream on my arm.  So I had to stop all that and wait and see.  I now have an allergy to Lanolin.  I have used Eucerin cream all of my adult life.  I had to get rid of the stuff after my DD used it on herself recently and I broke out from her touching me.  Yes Radiation changed my skin.  Not sure what change that I developed allergies to meds to. 

So now I am looking for Sunscreen that is lanolin free.  I haven't seen it locally but I have found some on line.

Hi KittyDog,  Four weeks after radiation i developed radiation dermatitis.  The itching was unbearable, went to see my regular dermatologist who prescribed "Olux-e", its a foam and works very well.  Maybe im allergic to aquaphor..hadn't thought of that.  Im using "XYZAL" also, its like benedryl, but with less side effects.  If you find a sunscreen w/o lanolin please post, thanks

My skin in the radiated area is more sensitive (and I already was using a "free" detergent). When I questioned the RO 3 years after radiation he said it would always be that way. I am kind of annoyed he hadn't said anything earlier. The only things I can use on that skin are vitamin E oil and pure shea butter. I have tried other things but they all sting. I never could use Eucerin. I avoid lanolin but have never had a problem with sunscreens. But I use the baby sensitive skin ones. I never checked the label. Sometimes I don't do that until after I have had a problem. I know that's not too smart.

It seems that all my allergies are worse after cancer treatment.

I did find sunscreen on line last night that is lanolin free.  It is the same company as my lotion.  Vanacream.  Very expensive but I would rather be safe than sorry this summer.  Here is a link so you can see what it looks like.  You might be able to find it at your pharmacy.  I haven't tried yet.

sorry that I have not posted my updates.  After getting 3 Apidoral injection, my shingles pain went away.  Then within a few days, a horrible itching started. I have never experienced this type of itch.  Anyway, my pain management doctor, made a special lotion for me (some MS liquid and crashed Asprin), it helped a little.  But you have to go through the course of it.  God with you. I kept putting cold towel on the area.  Now I am almost 90% better.   Just hang in there everyone, it will go, but it was the most miserable time for a month.  God is really testing me!

Sherry, had lost track of this thread and had never read your answer re: Kenalog.....  duh !  Thanks a bunch for the tip

Starella, I've also noted the meds in your latest post, as your itching sure sounds like mine.  It's cleared up for now.....did not realize either that one could experience SEs from radiation for a lifetime
