Need Advice on Infection

Hi Ladies,

Need some advice. I have LE in my left arm, breast and trunk.  Have developed an abscess on my upper back on the same side as the LE.  Had the abscess drained this morning (yuck!)  and am now on antibiotics.   The LE in my arm and breast have flared a bit the last couple of days, and I am assuming it is related to the infection.  Is it okay to wear compression garmets and do MLD while I am trying to get the infection cleared up? Thanks much for your input!

Deb

Deb, that's an interesting question: it's in the quadrant, but not in the areas of your LE. I'll pm Binney, I would think MLD in the arm/breast are okay, compression also, but if you can minimize both for the first day, maybe that would be safest.

With an abscess, drainage is key and usually clears up most of the problem.

    Always something.

    Kira,

Thanks so much for your response.  I was thinking along the same line as you.

Deb, me too. I'd avoid much of it for a day or two until you see improvement (in pain level, say), and then go back to it real easy. Wrapping is good for these kinds of in-between times because you can adjust the compression to something less aggressive. I'd hold off on daytime compression until you get some reduction, though, because they won't fit well if you're swollen. If you have night garments that's a good way to start back with compression too.

    Phooey! Please get well soon!

    Binney,

Thanks very much for your input. Pain level is doing better today so hopefully the abscess will continue to heal.  Wrapping instead of compression garments makes a lot of sense so will give that a try. Thanks for the suggestion, you are awesome!
