Yep. Been reading about this for years. When they refer to pre-clinical studies, I recall meta analysis suggesting fewer people got cancers while taking anti- inflammatories. There has been on going debate about the use of anti- inflammatories in the reduction in heart attacks as well. Some folks that statins have anti- inflammatory properties and that's what is actually reducing heart attacks and not the cholesterol reduction per se. Thanks for posting.

I wish this worked with something as innocuous as Advil.  Not sure I want to take a COX-2 inhibitor long-term, because of all the secondary problems they cause.  Then again, I'm already taking Arimidex and a statin long-term...  <sigh>

When I read COX-2 inhibitor I can't help thinking about all the serious problems from Vioxx.

Hello, just thought I would add a word of caution.  Sounds too much like Celebrex for comfort and which has had a very bad wrap. I suspect the pharmacos are trying to sugar coat it for some other use.  I worked with someone who took this drug and it made her extremely sick.  I'm taking two baby aspirins a day which is much safer, I feel and I defnitely will try the miracle of Boswellia which some ladies on this site recommended.

I have read, and been told by one of my docs (my PCP? my med onco?), that celecoxib (a.k.a. Celebrex) looks lke it is the "least harmful" of the COX-2 inhibitors.... so far, anyway.

I'm very intrigued by the connection between inflammation and cancer. I, for one, always had extremely painful breasts before my period. They felt bruised, swollen or inflamed. This happened every single month...and just seems too coincidental to not be related to the BC I developed by age 35. 

Also, I sometimes wonder if the connection between smoking and lung cancer relates to inflammation in the lung.

And doesn't it seem odd/ironic that so many people develop cancer in areas that they use/overuse in their daily lives (like opera singers who develop throat cancers, or cyclists who develop testicular cancers, or runners who develop leg muscle cancers [just read about that last one!])

Anyway, I think there has been some research done along these lines, though I don't know much about it.

Seems logical that if a tissue is harmed or challenged a lot, there will be a lot of immune system activity involved in its repair. If the immune system signals cells to proliferate, to repair problems, then something might go wrong in that process whereby cells get mistakes that keep them growing. 

I hope we'll see more related to all this...in the meantime, I'm taking baby aspirin too (onc approved.)

Anyone want to read a terrific book? I mean on the level of Silent Spring. Check out Dr John Abramson's book Overdosed America. Absolutely on of the most important books that I ever reas. The book was published two weeks before the Vioxx debacle. I want to digress and say that while the Celebrex was used in the study, I think the more important thing is that it was the anti inflammatory properties of the med that were being tested. Perhaps one day there will be a pill that contains all the anti inflammatory benefits without the nasty side effects.....

True about cox-2 inhibitors............especially in regard to heart attack........some are never affected by the drug, others are very affected...........so this needs a lot more studies........worked for a Pharma Co.............they love to push their drugs for things other then it was manufactured for.......called......off label use.............
