Got really great news today!
A couple of weeks ago, my sister met w/ her onco for the first time & told her "for now, you're a stage III, until we get the results of the PET CT scan back".
She met w/ her onco today & they went over her scan results - she's still a stage III! Cancer has not spread beyond a couple (not sure exactly how many, but my sister said a couple) of lymph nodes (and one breast, of course)! Praise God!!!
'Tho I have read this should be a IIIb, my sister only said stage III. Even if it is IIIb, we are all relieved. This is such good news to us because we had figured her to be in stage IV.
AND, she's also home from the hospital, after a set-back of a 102 F fever w/ low WBC. She said she's feeling TONS better, has her appetite back and her voice sounds back to her old self again (not sad and weak as it did the first week after her first chemo)! Her onco also did a physical exam of the affected areas and said that the chemo is already working. The lump under her arm has gone down in size and her breast is not quite as pink. She didn't say if it is still enlarged or hard, but at least there's signs that the chemo is working. Hopefully this will help to change her mindset that the chemo is her enemy (more than the cancer).
Knowing that she was getting the results back today, I was bracing myself for confirmation of the stage IV... well, wouldn'tcha know I got the stomach flu! So, I doubt I could've been very prepared to hear that! It was great to have a good, no, GREAT day for a change!
I hope you all have many, many GREAT days!
God bless,
Marianne

I'll bet that's a great feeling (heck, I KNOW that's a great feeling - I've felt it myself).
Congrats!

Praise God indeed! IBC was my second type of breast cancer (stage III), diagnosed while I was still in active treatment for my first diagnosis which was IDC (stage II). I went to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, they switched me to new drugs and a month later, my PET/CT showed NED. That was in August of 2009. I have had numerous PET/CTs since then -- all clear. Still NED and plan to stay that way! Hope this gives you hope that it can be beat!

Marianne,
I'm glad it's not metastasized. Wishing her the best in treatment. Hope you get over the flu soon, I'm dealing with bad allergies.
