Need to know :'(

actually i am very worried about my mother, she felt a lump on her right breast and was suggested to go to a cancer specialist hospital for further complete check up and tests. Now the problem is that the dictor has done the following tests : 1) CHEST X-RAY 2) BONE SCANNING 3) ULTRASOUND BREAST 4) ULTRASOUND PELVIS AND ABDOMEN and it was no symptoms of cancer .then the doctor again said that we must do MAMMOGRAPHY as well which was followed by another BREAST ULTRASOUND. now i am really very very worried because as far as i have heard all the doctors suggest biopsy at first and all other tests are done later. Why isnot that doctor doing biopsy?? Can we get 100% true and satisfactory result from the tests doctor have done without biopsy??? i really really need to know kindly reply as soon as possible :(

Hi all, i am new here.

    Hi,

The doctor will do a biopsy only if something suspicious shows up on a mammogram and breast ultrasound.  I've had lumps that were checked without biopsies and they were just fine, nothing to worry about.  Both times they were just cysts.

    Thankyou Elizabeth.

Thankyou very much for replying . I was freaking out. I am 21 years old and was doing crazy search for some information. Yeah, the ultrasound report says that there are several cysts. So it means that not having biopsy at first is a normal thing.

It is understandable to be freaking out -- it's your Mom.  If you have more questions do be shy to ask.  And when searching the internet be careful of which sites you get your info from -- some are plain wrong.  The American Cancer Society, Mayo Clinic, places like that are good for info and providing links to other good sites.  Hugs for you and your Mom.

Have they done any type of biopsy at all?  Have you asked your mother about their plans for a biopsy?  I hope everything works out for you and your mother.  Typically if there is real concern that something is cancer, only a biopsy can give definitive results.  Sometimes, benign conditions are diagnosed via other means (ultrasound/mammo) and follow-up may be recommended.  Best wishes.
