Found new lump in between 6 month checks... what to do?
I do my BSE on the 15th, but didn't this month until today. Found a new lump that sort of feels like the edge of one of those pink erasers. It is about an inch below where I had a benign biopsy in December, at about the 7 o'clock position. I can only feel it lying down. It's odd, and doesn't feel round at all, like my many dozen fibroadenomas.
I go to a breast center, and can call and refer myself there for diagnostic imaging, but I feel stupid, since I had something checked out in January that they decided was nothing. Should I just wait for my next check/MRI at the end of June?
Alternately I could call my gynecologist who said she would refer me to a breast surgeon in her women's health group who would do biannual clinical exams. I am torn, because I know the radiologist would get me in within 10 days or so, while I might have to wait longer for the surgeon. Or I could just keep an eye on it until June and point it out then.
I feel like a hypochondriac!

I agree, imaging now. Better to be overly cautious in this situation.
Hoping for benign results for you!

I know the feeling of "feeling like a hypochondriac" I even asked my SO that after my BS suggested a BMX. Don't even think about that. Either call your gyno and see a BS or get the MRI. And I agree with Jbin, if you have dense breasts, go right to the MRI-do not pass go I've been going through testing, MRI's needle biopsies for the past 6 years. There were always passing comments about my "dense" breasts. It wasn't until I got a second opinion that I realized how much of a risk factor they can be-it's just hard to see things on a mamo-or even an ultrasound sometimes when your breasts are dense.
I'm hoping it's nothing, but never wait to check something like this out. Pat

I would absolutely call now. I would rather be a hypochondriac and safe.

I do have extremely dense breasts, in the 75%-100% range, the kind where the techs say "Boy, I'm really glad I don't have to read your images!" That's why I pushed so hard to get high-risk surveillance, even though my Gail score just barely qualified me. I'm scheduled to have my first MRI on June 20th. But I was thoroughly checked out in December with ultrasound as well. My SO is urging me to call, but I feel reluctant still! Thank you all for urging me on. I'll give it a try.

I made an appointment with the breast surgeon for next Tuesday at 8:30 am. Thanks for your advice everyone.

Do not be so nervous. If there is any doubt, if You feel a new tumor, go to the doctor. Don't be shy and wait for the planned reception, the sooner there will be tumor, the better for you.
