Hello everyone, read on a post that "+ breast cancer is related to alcohol intake".  Is that the "common belief" as in superstition ?  Two of my great-grandmothers, aunts and cousins including myself plus 70% and more of + breast cancer victims all alcoholics ?  Should we allI be ashamed in front of the whole world ?

Have always read and been told that drinking a glass of wine or two could be a risk factor, as well as not exercising enough, etc. etc. the outcome being plain old breast cancer + or -.

Your advice please !

    That's just ridiculous! NO ONE knows the cause of breast cancer. For those of us who are estrogen positive, ONE of the suggestions is to limit alcohol consumption as it does raise estrogen levels. So does eating certain kinds of soy. So do birth control pills and HRT. So does being overweight since estrogen is produced in the fat cells. And who knows what else?

    Wish it were so simple that modern medicine could tell us why some of us get breast cancer and some of us do not.

    Since the first reports about alcohol and breast cancer were released, there have been follow up reports that say alcohol is more of an issue for women with Lobular cancer. "When looking at type of breast cancer, alcohol increased the risk of lobular carcinoma but did not appear to significantly increase the risk of ductal carcinoma. The rate of hormone receptor-positive, lobular breast cancer was 5.2 per 10,000 women per year among never drinkers and 8.5 per 10,000 women per year among current drinkers. By comparison, the rate of hormone receptor-positive, ductal carcinoma was 15.2 per 10,000 per year among never drinkers, and 17.9 per 10,000 per year among current drinkers."

    Hello dear Luan! What is the fairy tale about alcohol? Believe me, from wine, is one of breast cancer are not ill. I do not propagandize to drink alcohol in alcohol anything useful there. But all the same I think that from a glass of wine anything terrible will not occur.
    Who is exposed to the development of cancer, more than others? And as possible to protect yourself from this terrible disease?

    Among the factors of risk of development of malignant tumors of the breast in women is the age. In 85% of patients with this disease is diagnosed in over 40 years of age. Other predisposing moment of occurrence of a cancer of a mammary gland is heredity, that is if the blood relative of the women (mother, grandmother, aunt, sister) suffered from this disease. If we compare the probability of malignant tumors of the breast gave birth and nulliparous women, this comparison will be not in favor of the latter. In addition, the risk of this pathology increased, if the first births of the women were in the age after the age of 35.

    Risk factors for developing breast cancer scientists also include availability of abortion in the past, disorders of menstrual cycle and late menopause, as well as obesity, diabetes, hypertension. In addition, to the appearance of this disease predisposes and food rich in fats, and a cold climate, and permanent psychological stress.

    Such a large number of factors that contribute to the development of breast cancer, has forced scientists to seek ways of protection from the emergence of this disease.

    That also reduces the risk of breast cancer?

    * Normal menstrual cycle.
    * The first birth before the age of 20.
    * Breast-feeding a baby.
    * Lack of abortions in the past.
    * Small (but not less than 2 years) intervals between pregnancies.
    * Diet with moderate in fat and refined carbohydrates.
    * Timely treatment of benign diseases of the breast and gynecologic diseases.
    * Preventive examinations obstetrician-gynecologist not less often than 1 time in 6 months, with mandatory examination of mammary glands.

    Everything will be OK!

    I asked my onc about drinking - he said you would have to be virtually an alcoholic with a damaged liver to be at risk.

    Thank u very much ladies :)

    My concern is being labelled a "loose" drinker - as

    Some people believe - because

    my tumours were ER&PR positive as opposed to being

    negative and i don't drink !!
