African Americans, High Blood Pressure and BC
Did you have HBP before or after your dx? Some studies suggest inflammation fuels BC and I wanted to see if it's a common denominator.

Hi Thatgirl,
I like your topics and it should keep us posting!!
I had HBP before BC and had meds in early years, I lost some weight, and it went down. However last Feb. it went up and stayed up, so I am on meds again, with me exercising it is looking very good right now. Got enough with the BC without all the" other things" that can occur, but sometimes" things" come along , all of it will have to "catch me running, I won't lay down for it".
We certainly have to take care of ourselves and do what is necessary.
Take care.

My BP went up during pregnancy and stayed elevated. I have recently been taking a supplement that is helping with BP and weight loss. Have had normal readings for the past month

Allenan I am sorry that you are having to deal with this stuff but Welcome to the board. I have not had a chance to look over the study. I have been on bhp medication for 9 yrs... so I don't know. I had a lumpectomy and the s-node b. Please keep us posted on your outcome. Be blessed.

Allenan,
Welcome, we are here to support.
I had a lumpectomy---it seems like long ago, and so much has changed since then. I had lymphnodectomy as that is what they did back in 1998, it was standard procedure for that.
I had, had bp, years before and was on meds, and took myself off, after I lost weight, however, last year bp went up and was not coming down, Dr. put me back on meds. I do not know of the study, nothing surprises me along this journey, there seems to be more "things" that just happen to come along, along the way, and there is always the search for the "whys".
I am always interested to hear what the ladies find out--Yep, I am still listening and learning too.
Keep us posted.

Hi Allen,
Sorry you had to find us. From what I've read, cancer is not one disease, it formed from many. With that belief, there is not one cure. You throw all you got at it to keep living. It seems inflammation plays a major part, so there are studies to prevent or lower inflammation in the body. This site offers a lot. Read as much as you can before your surgery.

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for responding and for your words of support and encouragement.
I had my lumpectomy and SNB and I am recovering nicely. Almost feel like my usual self except for a little soreness under my arms and along my ribcage. My BP was so high days before and the day ofthe surgery so they had to give me meds in the OR. Now its around 140/84. It still needs to come down. I have lost about 7 pounds-- not intentionally, but I guess I am eating healthy and cutting out refined carbohydrates.
My doctor said the pathology results from the surgery and snb should me in before my next appt on June 2nd. I am so impatient to find out the staging, etc. etc. and what will be my treatment regimen. I thought I would only have to wait a couple days to find out but he said it can be anywhere from 10 to 14 days. Did anyone else had to wait this long?
I will definitely keep you all posted and hope I can make a worthwhile contribution to this thread.

Hi Allenan,
When I think back in time, I would have had my lumpectomy on Nov. 17. I had a lymphnodectomy on Dec. 9 this was in 1998. I started chemo Jan. 7, 1999. While this was years ago, it seemed like a" long time" to wait to get to treatment date. All the surgeries had to be closer to healing. I hope the ladies will post, as so much has changed the way the procedures go. The "wait" for any of this, because it is so unknown can make one feel "out of it". Just know you are not alone, as we have walked that path. Hopefully you can try to rest your mind and body( I can suggest this now to someone) I was a Bundled Mess!! With many, many,
Prayers, I am still here. Hang in there. We are with you.

Thank you Ilinda,
Well I got the results. I am node negative. Yay. However, I had to have a re-excision last week because all the margins were not cleared. One was particularly close. Feeling fine after re-excision and I am now waiting for Oncotype DX. The waiting is the worse part. I am praying for a low oncotype score when I go in this Friday.
One concern I have is the time span between my surgery and the time I am scheduled to see the medical oncologist for treatment. I had the lumpectomy on May 20th and then the re-excsion on June 8. My appt with Medical Oncologist is set for July 28the. I think that is a long time to wait. Would love to hear from anyone with similar timeframe from surgery date to start of treatment. It would put it over 2 months. I guess the oncotype score will give a better picture.
Hugs to everyone,
Ann
