Hi ladies,

anybody had their tubes and ovaries removed after DIEP? I am having surgery at the end of April. My DIEP was last May and I signed for laparascopic surgery with possibility of laparoctomy (if not able to do through belly button).

My surgery is scheduled as day-surgery so I am hoping to be home same day as my son had very hard time with me being hospitalized last year for mastectomy/DIEP.

I can't find any other threads on this topic, but if someone knows of one point me to it, please. Or maybe bumping this thread, someone will have gone through this and comment.

I'm 43, I have metastatic idc, pretty extensive metastases that moved quickly through 7 vertebrae, lungs, femurs, and and ribs. My initial diagnosis was Oct 2018, we did bilateral mastectomy (right breast prophylactic) with DIEP flap reconstruction. In January, we confirmed the metastases, and I've received the Lupron injections, along with taking Femara and Ibrance.

I'd like to remove my ovaries, but after the mastectomy and diep, port placement, bone biopsy, I am concerned that this will be another long surgery (with all the bowel issues that follow for me-- I was recently diagnosed with diverticulitis-- I think a problem resulting from anesthesia and opioids). I'm concerned because in addition to the diep, in 2015, I had a c-section with tubal ligation. I feel like that whole area might be done in.

So, hopefully someone else has some experience with multiple belly surgeries.

    Thanks for any input!

PS also, I don't know why my signature doesn't show...

Hi Mimsymom. I had Bilateral Mastectomy on Nov. 15 with TUG reconstruction. I had my bilateral ovaries and Fallopian tubes removed last Thursday, Feb, 7, 2019. I too was worried that the doctor would not be able to do the procedure laparoscopically due to excessive scar tissue from 3 previous C-Sections (resulting in 4 children) and an emergency appendectomy. Fortunately the doctor was able to perform it laparoscopically and the entire surgery was less than 2 hours. I am 4 days post surgery and feeling pretty good. Only the first day was bad due to the excessive gas and pressure in my stomach from the surgery. It was all done outpatient.

I am sorry that you are going through so much, but based on my experience I recommend that you give it a shot, especially if it give you peace of mind. My right ovary was buried in so much scar tissue that it wasn't visible on the vaginal ultrasound (only through the abdominal ultrasound) and yet my doctor was still able to get it out. Good luck to you.

Renee, thanks so much for your reply! My consult is scheduled in two weeks. I definitely want to do it, and today at least, I'm feeling strong enough to go through another surgery. I know it will help my prognosis considerably. I will update this thread when I know more and go through it. It was kind of lonely when I thought no one had been in my shoes, so thanks for taking the time to reply!

Sounds like we're on similar journeys, although I just have one other child beside the twins. Solidarity!
