Weightloss
I want to loose this weight I have gained. What are some gentler ways to do this. I don't have feeling yet in my arm. I am trying cut back on what I eat. Can anyone help me with this? Thank you.

Walking is gentle and free. Start with a short walk and build up to longer walks as your endurance builds. Purchase a well fitting pair of walking shoes and comfortable socks. Be sure to stretch before, during and after your walk and drink plenty of water. I gained 30 pounds during chemo and it took some time to finally lose it. Best of luck!

Thank you so much! I have gained about 20 pounds, amazing when I couldn't keep anything down for awhile. Thanks again!

I second the suggestion to get out and get walking. Chemo weight often includes retained fluids, so some of it should drop off naturally. But with walking, I dropped a pants size and really shaped up my hips and thighs. Being outside and observing nature with time to think is also great for our emotional recovery.
As far as cutting back on what you're eating, have you read the book, Anti-Cancer, A New Way Of Life, by David Servan-Schreiber, MD, PhD? Lots of excellent info' on diet & nutrition. Deanna

I gained weight going through radiation... mostly because I wsn't exercising and was eating massive amounts of protein to help all my cells that were getting radiated. I still have breast pain and so when I can walk and such I often find myself holding my breast to stop it from moving... which is soooo embarassing out if public! I don't know if you own a Wii game system, but I found the best game for it called Walk It Out. The cover of the game looks pretty childish, but I love that game. I can do it in the comfort of my own living room, at my own pace, and if I have to hold my breast no one can see! I have lost 15 pounds doing that game and eating better and am almost back to weight I was before the cancer and treatment.

We live in the country and have a bridge a half a mile away, so today I walked there and back a couple of times. I walked at my own pace. I want to do excercise, but my arm is pretty stiff right now. I will have to check out the book the book you mention, dlb, Thank you. We just bought a Wii game, so I will have to get that game. This helps so much. Thanks again.

Brenilea - the Walk It Out Wii game is hard to find.... they don't sell it at like Walmart but shuld be on ebay or amazon. I really love that game and can do an hour of solid walking and am having so much fun I don't even realize how much exercise I am getting!

I never gained weight until I was put on Lupron. My doctor told me to cut out the salt. I also walk most days, twice. When I walk early in the morning at the mall, there are people with walkers walking. I even see very elderly folks walking together. Be patient with yourself and take it a step at a time. Good luck!

Right now I am walking a couple of times a day and cutting back on what I eat. I have cut out red meat and pasta. I find out Tuesday, when I start chemo. I have allowed myself one day of crying and being scared. I am staying strong!
