Any good biscuit recipe? Just got the books out. Have to due with regular flour. I have baking powder, baking soda and sugar, salt. prefer drop versus rolled ?
LMG I only think ahead when I'm doing crock pot b/c it has to be started so early. Other wise I'm always last minute.
-
Found one in a soup cookbook
-
I'm not a great biscuit maker. I cheat and use the frozen bagged ones. Make a pretty good cornbread even without a cast iron skillet.
I think White Lily flour is supposed to make the best biscuits. Hard to get here, see it occasionally. Don't roll biscuits, just pat them out and cut. I'm not much a fan of drop biscuits. Oh, I don't have self rising flour. Just something else to store.

chevy. Wow. You can fix anything. And with just duct tape. Go mcgyver. Remember him ? He could fix anything with whatever on hand like a paperclip or blade of grass.
SAS. Love the skin brushing (is that what you called it ). It wasgreat. Led to Essex avdew times. Although my body was willing my brain was ticking things off my to do list. Just beung frank. Would hope Dh never read all my personal thoughts on here. That's why I have a few wonderful sisters from here phone number and email address in my cell phone contact list. Super easy for my Dh to make notifications than to register here. See I love him very much and wouldn't want to hurt him but we all need a pressure release somewhere right ? Y'all are def my pressure reliever. Thanks.
Rosevalley - too funny.
Hugs to all. 1 day til my awesome sons finallget home. Woo hoo. !!!!!
Hootie too

Yes, I just buy the frozen bisquits also! But I like the packs of gravy mix, and all you do is add water, and any leftover meat pieces... I used to make everything from scratch, but not so much anymore, unless it's stew, soup, & mashed potatoes. I even start with a tomato base to make spaghetti sauce, or that Ragu traditional, and then add your own browned sausage or hamburger. So much easier.
Janie's friend told us to put a rag in that hole, where the oil cap blew off, and Duck tape it down.... But we bought a top, that LOOKED like the right one, but we took it back, and got our money back, AFTER we taped it down & we made it home. Some stupid little "light" is on.... a check engine light, but I think it is because of all the oil that splattered over everything. DH will talk to his Nephew if it stays on after a couple days.... Nothing serious, and it runs perfect.
I started painting the front of our house.... It sure looks a lot better.... Tomorrow I finish the back, and the door trim. I'll get help for the higher parts....
Peppermint, I KNOW! Sometimes we just gotta get it off our mind... When Husbands mis-behave, if we blab it here, it seems to make it not so serious. Same with our kids.... and Grand-kids!
That Glen Campbell story was just sad.... I read now where he cannot speak.... Has aphasia... and that wife of his must be a SAINT! She is about his 4th wife, but such devotion! Not to mention patience.... Showed him licking his plates... and it just made me feel bad... Alzhiemers affects people in different ways.... He is just 2 years older than I am.... Tanya Tucker wants to just go see him, but the family is keeping her away....

chevy can't believe your out pauntingbin this weather. Why not wait til fall ,?

Patty, Pressure relief anytime girl!. Delighted. Yup, skin brushing. What fun. If it doesn't led to Essex, it will help you sleep well
Either way nice. I was celibate for about 20 /38 years. Poor Dh was impotent(diabetes) and progressively didn't like to be touched(Catholic Church thing long silent story--not physical abuse---menta. Y you'd have to have gone to Catholic school in the 50-60's to understand). So with DBF, we are like youngins and I'm taking advantage of that and him. That's why I worked out the problems versus kicking him to the curb. Amazing what a little nookie can do for attitude. I keep telling him to straighten up when he takes the bad boy route or else he's going to loose vagina rights. Which since I'm fessing up. When we broke up and he moved out. I said I'd tell him if I met anyone that I wanted to go with to Essex. He straightened out right away. Not literally. But he was so nice and then was good. When he starts staying out all night. I tell him no problem, I'm going back on Plenty of Fish. It's all okay till he starts again. Then we go through the ritual. Okay maybe I'm out there, but the last time I yelled about it. The next day he says "I understand, but can you not yell?" Chevy do you have my black skillet?LMG, they're done. Better than store bought by far. I had a store bought biscuit left over and tried it with the juice. That's why I thought I'd give it a try. Flour wide and far. I will try another tsp. of sugar next time. Realized I never made biscuits since before Mom moved in(1986 -1999). She was a biscuit maker and cook extraordinaire. And she was fun. Her chicken and biscuits where you drop the biscuit in on top of the chicken and gravy were to die for. Never had it like that since.
Loverly, did I handle that situation okay? They're was no comprehension. No matter how I said it, it came across bitchy. Littlegoats would have so finessed the situation. Hope it didn't drive anyone away.
Oh the smells are so good. My sinuses must be working better. I've been doing crock pot beef roasts fairly frequently. Last week I calculated cost. Approximately, 2.50 per serving. Huge, since Stick man can eat large amounts. He burns off the caliories in attics and underneath trailers etc. in 30-100+ degree heat. Don't even want to think what some of those attics are like. He does heating ventilating air condition. (HVAC).
Off to work
-
Uh what was I supposed to finesse for Loverly? You bitchy? Never lol.
I have manged to get some laundry done but that's about all. I have to get the last of the plums done so the remains can go out tomorrow on trash day. Plum innards are taking over my refrig. Will start them maybe tonight on low in the crockpot, maybe tomorrow. But do have haircut at 11. I really loathe leaving a crockpot on. I's afeared of electricity. So it may have to wait until I return home. Still have not settled on a recipe. Also have to wash the cute little plastic Ball jars I bought. Wish I had a clue how much it will make. I think I have about 10 cups of juice/pulp. Bet it doesn't make very much but at this point it's basically free. Peaches still green, smallish. County has a peach festival on the 11th. Hope their's are further along than mine. Must remind myself to stay out of county seat on that day lol.
Hootie Hoo Patty.
Been meaning to say Hiya to MammaRay. Good to see you back again.

Chevy I don't know about engines, but please don't drive it without talking to a knowing person. The little I know is an engine that is with out oil for even a short time can be seriously damaged. What's this about Glen licking his plate? Alzhiemers and they let that be shown? And the point of it was? Cruel. Chit read a story not long ago about a woman in New York with onset about 60. She was an author and women's studies teacher. Libber from the 70's and on. Apparently well known , but I didn't know of her.She made a pact to take her own life when she reached appoint that she wasn't her anymore. Tricky b/c she and the family didn't know what that point would be. She and husband journaled. She took the pill when she was 70(?). Sad story, but she and the family worked it out. May sound shocking, but I was interested in her plan. Alzheimers is big on dad's side. No intention of sticking around for that. Dear Aunt who is 90. A Dominican nun with two doctorates--math and chemistry. She was doing cancer research in 1950. Taught till 60. Then did archiving for a short time till symptoms showed up. She's been in an alzhiemers unit for about ten years. Evidence, present in the her late-60-70's. She knew and they knew( the nunnery). Oh well, too sad. -
Littlegoats, with the glass collecting. I ran across a web site that was nothing but relish dishes. I always wonder why they're were so many relish dishes. They don't do well on the thrift market. This webber, described that in an earlier time. Relish dishes were the dish of choice b/c of all the things that women "put up". They were able to use them a little bit at a time once opened. Finesse, yes, you have a way, my dear. They're was a gal that didn't read the thread, was embarrassingly off base. I had to straighten her out, but tried to do it ever so gently. I kept thinking how would you say it. I tried. ... I remember Mom's canning as a little girl hated it. Wasn't fun. We got to do the washing standing on a chair. Totally hated the canning cellar in the basement. Scary---dark and cold. One little bulb that hung on a wire and swung once the chain was pulled. Made the light erry with shadows bouncing off the glass....ick.

So I am at a business networking meeting today with two other people, and the man announced he cannot go up to the counter to order because his wife is sitting up front and she has a restraining order against him. That was a complete lunch conversation killer.
Can't make this stuff up!
-
Chevy, the check engine light is connected to the cars computer. Take it to a dealer, or mechanic, they can reset it. Don't ignore it.
I did a whole lot of canning and freezing up north. My dad had a HUGE garden. 5 dozen tomato plant, anything that would grow in our zone, he grew. It was hot but so worth it in the winter, and I never had to buy stuff in grocery.
-
Luvmygoats, Had never heard of a tailor's bunion until today. I think I have one on the same foot that has the big bunion. I want all these foot doctors to explain where you can buy the shoes with all the toe room. My experience is that wide shoes are wide everywhere and I have narrow heels. My DD goes to the wide shoe store, but they all just fall off the back of my foot. My toes are wide, not fat. I'm with you. If I had to wear heels somewhere I would have to go buy them. Didn't need them in my last job and certainly don't need them in retirement.

There is relief on the horizon... ultrasound and paracentesis..WHOO HOOO! I have spent 7 days expanding.. my ribs hurt and the only comfy position is laying on my side. I sit and I feel like a watermelon is on my gut. This sucks. No results but something has to give or I may pop like the man in the Monty Python movie.. one mint over.. and SPLAT!
Wren- My DH, Vietnamese DD1 and DD2 all have crazy narrow feet. They all use insoles, Birkie insols are DH's favorite. All three of them can hardly keep shoes on and not walk right out of them. I used to order shoes from Nordstrom for DD1 since her little Vietnamese footsies are impossibly narrow. Narrow feet are harder to fit then wide I think.
Patty I am glad you are feeling better and your boys will be home to cheer you up with their antics!
-
Rose- what is the fluid retention from, any idea or is that what you are waiting to hear about?
-
Oh Littlegoat's
-
Sas- I'm holding up okay. Just tired and but I'm getting used to hot flashes in the middle of my sleep and not completely waking up so I can go right back to sleep. I started having a tremor in my left thumb a couple of days ago in the same hand where my IV went so I'll have to mention that to my MO when I see her next week. And if we didn't have the internet, there were a lot of late nights where my nose would have smashed into the desk as I fell asleep so it has the added bonus of keeping us alert.
Littlegoats--I love plum jam. My grandmother used to make it from a tree in her yard. And don't you just get tired of the all the medical appointments? Last year, between physical therapy for my back, trying to figure out what was causing my dysphagia and high WBC counts and vertigo that led to a Meniere's diagnosis, I had 61 appointments from January 7th until December 19th. I was so happy not to have see a doctor for a few months but that only lasted until I found the lump. As for biscuits, I used to love the Pillsbury frozen ones when I could eat wheat but I can make biscuits from scratch--my gran was born in Alabama and lived in Arkansas so I think biscuit making is in my genes. I'm going to have to try to make them gluten free. I also have had tailor's bunions on the outside of my feet. I've got what my mom refers to as "duck feet and I was always trying to cram my toes into normal width shoes which caused the bunions. I started buying shoes in wide width or at least reading reviews to see if the normal width runs wide and the bunions have dissipated. I love Zappo's because their return policy is so relaxed.
Chevy--I have my card shut down all the time, especially when I'm making travel reservations for Europe since I like to pay for my hotels in advance and I do most of my travel stuff in the middle of the night. My bank always thinks that's suspicious so Visa shuts down my card.
Spookie--HYSTERICAL. Chevy, is that kind of what happened when you fell off the pole?
If anyone wants to ship their rain here, we'll take it. I've been doing a rain dance but I'm only 1/16th Cherokee so I may not have enough mojo to make it work. Or you can send a little heat to us--It's a boring 72 degrees again all week.
-
Jazzy- no idea what's causing it.. taking a stab, I would say liver.. (geez brilliant -but it could be something else like ovarian cancer which there are cases in my family after they had BC.). If it's malignant ascites, the median survival is 5.7 months. No results yet.
Marlana-- 72 degrees and it's boring? That's what we should be and wet... no rain for a month. June is usually wet. This is weird weather.
-
Rose--72 degrees is too cold for me and it's our usual temperature from May to August when it jumps to about 74. We get the Santa Ana winds usually in October and January where it gets in the 80's and we had a freak bout of the wind in March where we saw mid 90's.
-
We will have this till Nov.

-
Yay rosie
Yep sas 9 days n counting...
-
Oh yeah Ms Spookie, I can beat that...

-
You are right Susan. When you try speed reading, you do get everyone's situation mixed up. For you ladies with problems with your feet, it is very important that you buy proper fitting shoes. Otherwise..........

-
Rose, happy to hear that you will get some relief soon.
Ms. Chevy, you can make smoothies with your frozen fruits.
Patty, yay for boys coming home soon.
Ms. Sass, I think you handled the situation well. Sometimes, you need to point out truth, but with love. I am really fascinated with the info you gathered. It's better than ice cream on a hot day. Thank you!
Oh boy, it's late. Need to go to bed. I think I played too many games of badminton this evening.
-
Hi sas, iron is still good...thanks for asking. So far I've needed infusions every other year. Hopefully, I'll avoid anemia for awhile.
-
loverly--the things we women sacrifice for a pair of shoes, like good sense in that woman's case.
-
No Sass.... The whole story was presented beautifully.... Some very disturbing scenes, yes... but it showed what happens as that disease progresses.... But it also showed the love and compassion that family, and circle of friends has for that man! It showed the emotions they all went through... not only the things Glen was going through...
It took a LOT of courage to present that story! No commercial breaks, just the story of a great entertainer who started losing his ability, and his thoughts.
And it began showing how vital, and how he was a great Father.... How he loves his wife.... (the present one) And how his younger kids are entertainers just like him, and trying to help him through this awful night-mare he is caught up in. Most of that 1 hour 45 minute show was about his last tour, with his family, and band members.... All the concerts, and the love his fans showed for him! How he could still sing and entertain, going through the beginning of Alzhiemers....
He is now unable to speak, or recognize his family.... SOME of the family do not see him as much.... as it should be, when they have not been in your life up until something happens.
But the scene with him licking his plate, also showed how happy he was, just doing what he thought was okay! Even though we would find it disgusting. Mental illness doesn't have boundaries... I watched my Grandma go through Dementia... Putting on 2 dresses.... calling me 5 times in a row.... and that is when it first STARTed!
No, that scene wasn't cruel, just honest, and showing what can happen... It was sponsored by the Alzhiemers Asso.....
-
-
My car is okay now! The check engine light came on, but it now out.... Oil is clean, and DH added a little more. The light was on because of the oil that did spray under the hood....
Loverly, that picture is funny.... but if you look at it, that little woman has her toe-nails polished, and pretty little shoes, that don't exactly fit... Ha! Crocs would have been better, but those are not exactly "stylin"...!
Marla, my folks lived in Richmond Ca... On a hill, and they always got the breeze from the Golden Gate Bridge blowing across the Bay.... I LOVED the climate where they were! Never got too hot.... always cool, but being from Colorado, it was great!
Meeting my Rosie tomorrow morning for her biopsy.... I know she is afraid.... but maybe it will turn out just FINE!
-
Rosie- keep us posted. You mentioned some very serious things that could be related to the swelling. Sounds like a lot of ovarian and BC together in the family. I hope you get some answers from your tests soon.
