Hi gals! So far so good! I rescued all that food I had out back near our door, on the little garden table, but the squirrels or someone had thought I left it out there for THEM! It was 32 degrees out...perfect to keep the food until this morning... but when DH went out there, he noticed a piece of Sweet Potato, taken out, and on the table! The little Dickens tore a hole in the plastic covering on the dish, and were thinking their Thanksgiving Dinner was EARLY! Even that cranberry dish had been tampered with....

So I had to make room in the fridge... They couldn't lift the glass lid over the celery, onions & butter out there... Nor the broth, or the cut up Chicken.

ANYway, Blessings, those were ALL good ideas! Even after I leave rest-rooms, I hold a wet towel to open the door with... and wash my hands as soon as I get home... buggy-carts MUST be hazardous....Even WITH those cloth's they provide to wipe them off

I could start using my cane to open doors... Ha! But I only take it when we're going to walk around the mall....

    Happy Thanksgiving my friends! xoxoxo

Happy Thanksgiving, Owlettes. Sassy, if you're here, we're using the Haviland china for the meal – which is still not ready! We use an electric roaster to cook our turkey, have for years, and it usually cooks much faster than in the oven. Today, however, it is taking its sweet time. Everything else is ready and waiting, but the darn turkey will not finish! I baked pies last night; I made one of the crusts and taught cousin so she could make the other one. We have steamed fresh green beans with slivered almonds, fresh sweet potato and apple casserole, DH's signature fried dumpling noodles with mushrooms & sherry, and Mom's recipe chess pie (with walnuts & raisins). If we ever get to eat...

I had the most excruciating experience with my rads simulation yesterday. I have really bad arthritis in my left shoulder (tumor side) and keeping it immobilized above my head is extremely painful. For one thing, it has a really limited range of motion, and after 2 surgeries, a lot of adhesions, so it can't be put where they need it to be. To get it even close, it stuck out too far to fit into the ct tube. We fine tuned the position for nearly an hour! Then came the sim. By then I was in tears. I don't know how I'm going to do this even if it's only 15 minutes every day. I came home and iced my shoulder and took a pain pill. Pain woke me up in the night, took another. Had to take another today just to get through helping with the cooking. Good thing I didn't need to do very much, thanks to my cousin and DH, for whom I am truly thankful.

As I am for all my Owlette buddies.

    Happy morning after gals!

Smarty, I just go to Google Images, and type in any picture or topic you want, and usually it's like "animated" trees, or something like that... And SOMEtimes it works, and the animated whatever will show up where you copy & paste it to... hopefully.... sometimes.

    Morning Blondie.... You doing okay?

Rosie! You know what I did? You know that cranberry salad I made.... Okay... write this down... and stick it somewhere important.. THIS is your morning tip.......

DO NOT EVER NEVER EVER add fresh pineapple, even if it HAS been frozen to anything with JELLO! Now I KNEW this, and as soon as I DID it, I just KNEW it would not gel!

It just sat there! Overnight... ! Looked like soup!... So I thought, why not use a Cake Mix, add 3 eggs, put in SOME of the screwed up cranberry mixture, and MORE on the bottom, and bake it... ! I mean what could it hurt? MOST DELICIOUS CRANBERRY "CAKE" EVER!

So that disastrous cranberry-jello salad became something GOOD! I un-screwed it!

Then when DD asked where the Cranberry salad was that she loves, I lovingly brought in the CAKE! Hah! She wasn't impressed.

Same with beans... When cooking beans, do not EVER cook them with your meat, or oil, or grease, or anything LIKE that! Cook them first... plain, then when they start to get soft, well THEN you can add the ham-hocks, or meat... etc. Beans will never get soft if they have oil with them...

Man I could write a book on some things I have done... But ONE time, DH opened up that big can of Dinty Moore Beef Stew, and added a can of pork and beans!!!!! OMD! But me and the girls ate it... He thought it was great, and I acted ever so lovingly that he had made dinner!

Smarty! Benadryl helps allergy symptoms a little, but even a 25 mg will make you sleepy... It's supposed to stop that itch-scratch-itch cycle... but it doesn't last lone... Might as well go to bed if you take the 50 mg.

Mom2... Stay safe! I see all the pictures on the news about all the storms going on!

And Good Morning to everyone else who is still asleep...Ha!

Thanks for the birthday wishes, this year was better than last year. I know next year will be even better!

Princess made me a very proud mommy this morning. For the first time since we got her, I didn't have to put her in her kitty box so she could go. I was getting my coffee and I heard her litter being moved around and I turned around to see her in her in there!

Yes, Spookie, chess pie with walnuts & raisins. There's a story, too.

My dad was in the Navy, and he had a buddy who was from Oregon. My mom was from Los Angeles, so when Dad was stationed on the West Coast, they would drive up and down the coast whenever he had leave, visiting various family & friends. Well, his buddy's mom owned a diner, and this pie was her secret recipe which she never revealed to anyone. People would come from all over, even buy whole pies to take home. Well, when the mom retired & closed down the diner, she gave the recipe to one person – my mom. My dad loved this pie so much that it was his "birthday cake" as well as a holiday treat for all of us. I'm not shy about sharing the recipe as long as I get to tell the story! Here it is:

    Chess Pie

    1/3 c. evaporated milk
    1/3 c. butter
    1 c. sugar
    2 eggs

Soften butter until just firm, not squishy. Beat all ingredients together just until the butter is in about 1/2" lumps. Add:

    1 teaspoon vanilla
    1/2 c. chopped walnuts
    1 c. raisins

Stir together, pour in 8" pie crust. Bake at 325º for 45 minutes. Let cool.

I think I have a picture. Let me find it.

The semi-soft butter chunks are what make that delightful crust on the top. This one was probably one I made without raisins, since I'm the only one here who likes raisins in it. Hubby & cousin like it with just the walnuts. I've also made it using semi-sweet chocolate chips instead of raisins. That's pretty good too. Around here we call that a Dixie Pie.
