Not doing much today.

Kathinco - Once in a river cottage 38 yrs ago we had a river rat that took the rat !!! trap which are bigger and the entire box of poison into the basement and ate it, left it's leg? I don't know but it still got out and left, never to be seen again. Hubby is heartless but once I saw that thing in our house - we just bought it and had not moved in yet - I wasn't sleeping in there for nothing.
Damn dog.
Shepkitty - today the birds ran out of feed for 5 hours. We brought a bag home. I was at desk and Hubby was sitting here, planning to feed them laterrrrr. I looked out and the birds were hopping around and pecking in the frozen dog poop. Apparently there is still some inside him. Anyway, your idea is not so far fetched. Hubby instead went out and filled the feeders and baskets. Not the tables.
-
Miss Blue ~
See? An added bonus to filling the dog and not the feeder. Less doggie poo to pick up - those little feathered freeloaders should be doing something to earn their keep! You never would have to worry about tumbling in the 20 ft snow again either.
Loverly,
Remember poor Chevy almost freezing her "everything" when she got stuck in that snow that was over her head...........feeding the dang birds?
Chevy ~ You out there? Tell 'em!
I do not understand why people who don't have cats feed birds? Hummingbirds, yes. They are so dainty yet fierce and eat up mosquitos - all while looking like beautiful winged jewels. That cuss. I adore them! Otherwise, ick. Birds make way too much noise in the morning and defecate all over your nice patio furniture and your mother. So unpleasant. The FFH likes the dang things and takes the bird feeders up when he sees them in the yard. Something about hanging them too low......🙄 The Hummers have feeders up high 'cuz they deserve 'em.
Howdy Carolina Girls! About time some of y'all showed up here - It's so lonely being the only true Southern Lady on the thread. (I can hear those snickers and I KNOW who you are. So HUSH!)
Gotta go prep for roadtrip to get this -
Sure wish I could go back in time for my Baby Marti 😢
We were visiting her - only 5 weeks old and too young to come home yet.
Still have a last chance for a veto if the breeder/parents/pups aren't up to my professional standards. FFH at least understands that my knowledge exceeds him in this. Just wish he would have asked before paying for the darned thing.
Eeyore - Corgis are so silly! Odd fact. You love Huskies, which are considered a Spitz. Corgi's are herding dogs, but considered to also be a Spitz. I don't know why? Gotta read more.
M0mmy - I would so love a Sheltie! Soft, cuddly and oh so smart!
I ratted FFH out to my Neuro Onc Thursday and told him about the darn Bloodhound pup. His eyes lit up "Oooh! They are such cute puppies! Bring me some pictures!" Oh, the unexpected betrayal........ Mens.
Kath - love hearing about your porch kitty colony. They are good to keep the rodents out of your house - how about the feathered things?
Junie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stay warm Sassy! 65 degrees? Gah! Spend the extra 10 bucks a month to be comfortable. You don't want to get pneumonia sitting in your own living room!
Wenchie is back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now we need Sensi and Peppy and all our other busy sisters to at least peek in and say "hi"
Love to all 💕

Hey! What a coincidence. I was going to post the pictures Ms. Sas was asking for. Internet near the school is very slow. But first....WELCOME to the new ladies.
-
Photos are not loading. Kids are almost out. I think they slow down the internet on purpose around here. Will have to try later when I get home.
-
OH Hello, hibernating. This is the fourth year of increasing cold in Florida. I only can say this b/c when the kids chose last year to have an outdoor wedding on Feb 11th. I quietly said don't you remember the last two years. Well last winter was worse than the previous two. Now this is worse than the previous three. So, new normal will take adjusting to. Go figure, I'm setting the thermostat at 65 and wearing layers of clothes. My twin in Michigan setting her temp at 78.
Blue, there is a condition of older dogs of pooping and they don't know it. It started a few months ago with Shats. Threw some keywords into the computer and there it was....Keywords Incontinence in old dogs and sleeping. I'll leave the details out. Never ever heard anyone talk of such a thing. It was a shock since I've been around dogs my entire life and knew mostly dog people. You would think something like that would drop(pun) in conversation. Now hasn't been a problem for several months. ?????
"Shepkitty's birdfeeding solution: " Miss Blue, why what an amazing time saver you have discovred! No more slogging about in inclement weather to fill the bird feeders.... just fill the dog and let him loose!" Masterful!
-
TaReney Sleeping is such an issue Duh that's why this thread got started. My most recent thing of trying to manage it is likely outside the normal, as I now have to use CPAP. My doc says cpapers, most generally, have to use a sleeper(medication). SOOOOO, this years routine is Ativan 2mg and Melatonin 10mg at 10pm therabouts. But sometimes I get distracted and forget till later.
Jayweb welcome here come often SOOOOOOOOooo, glad you and your doc were proactive. YAY. Intuition has save me several times. My Twin was dx'd at 46. She skipped a year on Mammo's. She felt guilt about it. BUT the machines are fallible. Whose to say that had you had a mammo the year before that it would have shown up. Don't guilt yourself on it.
I was going for a prophylactic bilateral. Clean mammo in August. December MRI positive. 4 month delay was b/c there was no imperative b/c it was clean in August. I simply thought oops, I have approval getter done before January and new deductibles. Then bingo the signet ring in the MRI was bright and clear.
The more you are around BCO you will see that there is some rhyme and some reason, but you may also conclude there is NO rhyme or reason. At this point in history we don't know enough. A hundred years from now will be different.
For now just go with the flow, be proactive, and find the joy wherever you can.
-
Jaymeb, just saw your post about ambien and when you take it. I'm not a fan of Ambien. But a real key to any sleeper is to take it between 1-1/2 hours before you wish to sleep. Think about moving up the pill time to 11:00pm for one-two weeks. See what happens. Then try 10:00pm for two weeks.
I can do the 10pm routine for a few days, get great sleep, then I have all this energy and destroy it by staying up all night. BUT then I take a bed day by napping on and off. Then try to do better with the close to ten routine of taking the pill. SLEEP OH GLORIOUS SLEEP.

Ta Re---Effexor taking it for depression or hotflashes?. LOve the pants. THey can light the way.
Blue, you should add the mouse castle story to your blog. SO funny, We had a similar problem with squirrels. I used to feed the birds. But once when a bunch(afew) broke through the screening and it was like the Hitchcock Birds attack.. We stopped feeding the birds and relocated the squirrels. Bummer.
Shep what a beautiful picture with Marti Awwww
-
Sas & Shep - My phone has finally bitten the dust. It is nearly 4 years old and has 2 cracks in the screen from me dropping it. I am concerned that I'll need it to call for help or something. Gotta do my taxes and maybe I can get a new one. But rest assured that I am not ignoring you.
Last Sunday we had a bit of an anomaly weather wise here. It was sunny, 64 degrees and dry. I had gone to church in the morning and had planned on taking a nap once I got home, but the sun was just too inviting. So instead of the nap, I went out and raked, swept and weeded. I've been having excruciating pain in my lower spine & pelvis. I went to the chiropractor and had a massage, but they only helped minimally. I've been wearing my back brace and using pain meds., but I could barely get cleaned up & dressed this morning. Will I ever learn?
Only 9 more days until Kirby comes home from the trainer. She texted me early in the week saying that they had had a great session and that Kirby was doing well. I hope he'll be ready for his CGC certification test soon. I've been catching flack from a couple local businesses and the local transit company saying that they don't believe he is a service dog in training. Hmph!
Anyway, I am tired, so I will wave HI to everyone and wish you all a good restful nights sleep.
-
Trying again. Went to submit my message and I got logged out instead.
Shoe, must say bloodhound puppy gets an awwww, BUT not so much when they get older. Do you have to give your reason for turning down the pup? I’m thinking that the color of the kennel is wrong, LOL. Love the picture of you and Marti. The look she is giving you says it all. You can see the special bond the two of you had.
The female of the three I feed is the huntress. Have seen her get a mouse and a bird (grackle). She’s a stealthy little thing. The male she hangs with took the mouse away from her. Leaving her with the little leftovers he left for her. You could tell the next day that the mouse didn’t agree with her. When she caught the bird, he tried getting from her but she got first dibs on it. This year saw a lot of small branches and leaves on the ground near one of the trees. Feathers on the ground and porch. My neighbor (she feeds about five ferals different from mine) two doors down saw her going up the tree for the birds a few times. DC has a TNR clinic and they have each had a visit to it. Several people in the area are active at trapping them and arranging for their operation.
Junie, can you get a “service dog in training” vest for Kirby? Worth a try if it saves you from being hassled. I know some business don’t want to acknowledge the dogs that are in trading though
-
Ok, here are the photos:
Shep and Ms. Sas hogging the blanket and Junie is on the right looking at half naked men on her phone. Me...somebody has to be the photographer.
And the lame selfie....sorry Junie I cut off your head to fit my big head. A selfie stick would have been good.
-
hope everyone is staying bundled up and warm
-
Went to the store to get almond butter for DD and ended up with these.:
I couldn't help myself. Flowers make me happy When DH saw them, he asked "You don't have enough orchids?" Silly man! The answer is obvious. I have to wait until March for my other ones to bloom. Instant gratification for $5.99 each.....much better than a bouquet of roses I told DH to stop buying for me a long time ago. So Jaymeb, take Ms. Sas' advise; be proactive, don't blame yourself, go with the flow, and do what makes you happy.
Shep, you is mean! I like the birds singing in my backyard . Better than constant barking from neighbors' dogs when I am trying to sleep. Yeah, I remember the time when Ms. Chevy fell in the snow and was stuck there for awhile. Thank God it was fluffy snow and not ice. Oh how I miss MamaJ.
Kath, I am heartless also when it comes to rats/mice. Ok ok Shep, I know I have double standards and bias.
Blue, you have a heart of gold. I don't think you would harm a mosquito, would you?Told my DD about your pet skunks. She was amazed and wondered if you ever got sprayed.
Tarenee, you don't have to worry about people not finding you with that pants. Hah!
Eek! It's way pass my bedtime. Night to all.
-
Oh hi Jwoo! You are up late! Hope sleep fairy comes soon for you. Mine is tapping her foot and pointing at the clock. Good night!!
-
Morning everyone. I am seeing the thaw of the snow now. Nothing left in my front yard after yesterday. Kind of sad actually. It was so pretty.
I’m on Effexor for both sleep and hot flashes. Tho I haven’t seen much of a change in either yet. I’m giving it a chance but I don’t know that it works for me.
This is my entertainment with the snow melting. He loves that red ball.
-
Tarenee, pretty feline!
Junie, one more week and you will be reunited with your baby. Yay!
Happy Saturday, everyone. Hope this video causes you to laugh out loud as it did with me. I would love to go to their concert.
-
Took so long reading to catch up - only a few min to type.
JWoo - oh nooo when coats were coats ?
Loveroflife - I actually do think twice before smacking a mosquito and ticks too. But in the end I am evil and kill them. Everything else gets a fair shake and new place to live. Though there was one spider, it was in my skunk's den when I pulled out her blacket, a massive wolf spider, about a foot long. I threw the blanket over it and I had on shoes so I jumped up and down on the blanket / spider. I still feel bad. But the last wolf spider I tried to relocate that was that size blew on the wind back at my face and stopped my heart, another story but you have to believe me, Hubby is a VERY VERY BAD MAN. Put the pile of smooshed spider in a blanket into an old garden cooler I used just for sitting on because well blech! and rolled it out to the yard. Next morn Hubby came home from work and I told him, he opened the cooler and the spider was still alive! So he took it to the woods and let it go, far from home which made up for his other wolf spider debacle. This skunkette was Blossom, otherwise called Honey Bunny because she bounced most of the time.
The spider was in MY den said Blossom, but I was going to eat it later.
Those orchids are so beautiful I wouldn't want roses either.
Kathindc - that reminded me to two cats we had, male and female brother and sister. We fed them seafood scraps or something delicious on a newspaper in the bathroom. The female was less than half his size. She decided he was not getting more than a mouthful and without stopping eating she used one paw and clenched his head to the floor, all nails impaling him, she did not let him up either. When he struggled she growled and he quit. We rescued him though.
Junie - we are expecting 58 degrees her at tip of Lake Michigan during this coming week, in January!
Tas - I know what you are talking about. My BearBear had a few stokes at the end and he emptied his bladder a few times in the house whereas he never had, he just couldn't hold it any more. But the actual poop incontinence could be a problem for Danny Boy. He had a problem in leaving a straggler a few months ago, it was at the end of hall after he stood up. I thought it had been stuck to his fur maybe. But I have seen another one just last night. So now I wonder if he is having incontinence. At least the poo is firm with no smell. The ones in his yard are perfect so doesn't seem to be a blockage or too dry. We will keep a watch on him. Oil given would only make him arf it up in the night, he and oil do not mix at all. Thanks for the heads up. I will watch him.
Tas - I will work on the and add it to my blog of stories. I have a lot of them to do. Out of all the stuff or plans and goals that were in my hutch drawers and file drawers, I kept stories to write and books to finish. The rest is all tossed. Imagine that, a lifetime of plans and when it comes down to what is most important if you have six months, it is never a question, is it. So the mouse castle. The wolf spider stories. Some real doozy Hubby stories, like the rock salt for one.
Here is a Blossom story for anyone up after hours and no one to chat with. https://skunkiedelight.wordpress.com/2008/12/15/do... Spoiled rotten and not by me.
Sorry but I tried to log in to that blog and cannot figure out how. Chemo brain again. I just wanted to unlink some links but now cannot - so don't use them, they are old anyway. I will get these cleaned up soon.

Ladies
Normally, before I start on a thread, I read from the first to the last posts. For example, I read all the Stage 2 sisters club before I started responding. That tread started in 2012, I think, with 125 posts, so far, and still active. It took me a month to go through it. It was my way of getting to know the ladies on the forum, reading what they had to say before I joined. I'm not sure if this sounds crazy(well I am crazy) lol, but I could tell what type of personalities they have, and how everyone had different opinions. Everyone is welcoming, and great support.
Well, then I got on the pros and cons of tamoxifen, middle age 40-60ish. That was easy to read, since it was recently started. On that one too.
Now, I'm still lurking in the singles after mascectomy forum, that one has 245 pages. I started reading that one several weeks ago, and I'm at the end of the year 2014. It will take me another month to finish. These forums are like reading a book. One lady in that thread said this is a very busy thread, and hard to keep up.
Well, I was going to start at the beginning until I saw there's 1454 pages!!!! I would never finish. I've just read a few posts. This thread is fun, and like a casino in Vegas😀😀😀. What's so funny is that the women who start these forums don't stay on long. Well, some more than others.
Bluebird-DE, that's so funny that you realized in an instant I talk a lot. Many people, especially the ones closest to me call me the energizer bunny of conversation. I barely take a breath lol. You have a great personality, and so full of life. Where did you get the name you're using? What does it mean?
Ladies, I also love to see pics. Keep on a sending. I see so many of pets and animals. I'm a single mom with a 15 year old, and we love cats and dogs. Well, my daughter loves all animals, and very much an animal activist. We have two cats, and if it were up to her, we would have many more animals. Two cats, and hamsters are enough in this apartment!!!! I told her when she gets on her own, she can have a farm if she wants. The way it works with the cats, is she plays with them, I clean the mess, and feed them🙄🙄🙄. I just found out recently there's a pet forum. Does anyone post on that? Sorry about my long winded posts, love to talk. -
Cats Cats Cats is a popular forum with lots of photos of adorable cats. I think there's a different forum for dogs. We'd love to see your cats over there.
-
TaRenee
I just saw your snow pic. Love it. If you don't mind me asking, where in NC are you? If you don't feel comfortable answering test question, I certainly understand. Well, as it shows, I'm in High Point near Greensboro. I was stuck for three days. Well, I could have gotten out, but I refuse to drive in snow. When I was married, my ex drove like it was nothing. The tempatures are climbing, and the snow is melting. I'm sooo glad. I'm a spring/summer girl. I've been ready since November for sping💐💐💐🌺🌺🌺. You said you're on Effexor, does it help at all? My ambien works, but I never sleep a full 8 hours like it's supposed to. My doc wants me to try to wean off them. They are addictive. I just can't imagine taking something less powerful. Sighhh. -
Hi Wren44
Just saw your post. Thank you. So there is one for just cats. Great. I will check it out. You're going to think I'm stupid, but I don't know how to post a pic on a thread. Reece, my daughter, and I have tons of cute pics of our cats. I'm sure it's easy, but I'm horrible with technology. I bet Reece will know how.😂😂😂. Thanks. -
Hi Jaymeb! Welcome. It's not you. A lot of ladies need help the first time. It took me a while to get the hang of it. Just above the reply box you will see an icon of a box with mountains in it (eighth one over). It says Insert Image. Click on that and a new box comes up that says insert image. Click on choose file. Go to the picture you want to post and click on that. It will highlight and at the bottom Choose will highlight as well. Click that. It can take a bit to post. To resize, click the picture and put the cursor on the bottom right corner, enlarge or minimize the picture to what you want. FYI, I'm on a Mac and resizing hasn't worked for me for a while so sometimes my pictures are larger than I would like. I guess I should tell the Mods but so far nobody has asked me WTHeck are you doing? If my directions are confusing give a shout out and someone will probably come up with a better explanation.
-
TaRenee, your cat is so handsome!
So mad right now. Opened my blind on my side porch to see that the stupid squirrels have chewed up and pretty much destroyed one of my bird feeders!!!!!
-
Tarenee, I'm an old nurse, and an old teacher. therefore, very opinionated and a PITA. I would suggest considering a better tool (med) for your sleep and hot flashes. Effexor is a bitch. A nasty bitch. Once it gets you it can take six months to a year to wean off. Even for depression they're better drugs. Of all the drugs in the SSRI and SNRI families, I disrespect Effexor the most.
Years ago I worked with some gals on the Hot Flash Forum. It's inactive now. I was there for maybe the first 30 some pages. That is where I learned to disrespect Effexor. So many ladies had a horrible time with it. But you make your own judgement once you read the pages. I linked to the first page of the forum.
https://community.breastcancer.org/forum/78/topics/770796?page=1
Jaymeb. I'm linking to the Warm & Fuzzies thread. In the topic box, I've placed links to a bunch of threads. Cats, dogs, other funny threads, gardening........Some are active, some inactive. Anytime something is inactive, you can restart it by posting and see if anyone pops in.
https://community.breastcancer.org/forum/102/topics/818346?page=693#idx_20766
Jay & Tarenee in the topic box of W&F's there are instructions towards the end to go to page 508(?) and there are directions from several people on how they post pics.
-
Tarenee back to Effexor, there was never a study that proved that Effexor was good for hotflashes. It started to be used off label for that around 2010 thereabouts. As for sleep they're much, much better tools. The SSRI's and SNRI's are messing with Serotonin and Norepinephrine. They are two of the biggest neurotransmitters in the brain. At this end of my life, I feel that taking all other measures possible before messing with them is the first course of action. Frankly, I will be bold enough to suggest not taking the drug until you do all the reading on the Hot Flash forum. I, generally, don't say such a thing, but that's how serious I think these drugs are in hurting versus helping people.
-
Bummer lost a long post
Loverly, loved the picture
Junie, no phone oh my.
Jwoooohottiehoo
Blue, darn I lost this complete thingy about dog incontinence, The short of it was internet recommendations. 1. vet visit to check neuroexam and stool for parasites or if urinary incontinence check for infection. Xrays as determined by vet exam. My vet deferred on the xrays. Ordered a course of Flagyl For Shats that worked. For Shats we backtracked and determined she had an intestinal thing just prior to this happening.
She hasn't had a problem since, the flagyl treatment
-
Jaymeb - there are several pet forums, each w its own style. I talk a lot when I write. What takes someone an hour to type takes me about 10 minutes, just easy for me. To talk to people, it's a lot harder for me. I then am more the listener. And with the voice compromised it is moreso now. I just love birds. I started a collection of them when I was 23, found one at a flea market. The clear blue-coloured glass bluebirds of happiness were always a favourite. But now more the porcelain birds that look real. And the resins, and the wood carved. Some years ago I got ticked off at these people trying to push me around and changed my name to MadBluebird and used that little picture of the mad bluebird face. A few months later I dropped the 'mad' and kept the bluebird. Michael L Smith is the photographer. I imagine her was too close to the nest in order to earn that face! I have had wrens look at me like that.
-
Got through baskets and crocks in living room / dining / office. There are always a lot of crocks and baskets in all my rooms. I am a born nester. and now to the last two closets, hall and coat. Hubby keeps saying I have done enough for today but I do not want to put off those closets yet again.
A lot of pain in liver right lobe area since last evening. Have been coughing a lot from bronchial irritation that was mostly cleared up and now isn't???? and why I do not know????? and that aggravates it, middle of night the sharp pain also moved into shoulder which is referred liver pain. Tylenol last night did not seem to help. I just took two more x strength tylenol. Ate cereal. If that doesn't work in an hour I will try the fentanyl patch at 12.5 mcg / hr release. I can take it off if it bothers me, better than swallowing a pill and can't back down except w ipecac in the first few minutes....... which I have done, btw.......
-
Blue, could all that cleaning stir up the dust bunnies and they are now taking refuge in your airways? Organizing/cleaning ...I want to do that too, but that means I will be tempted to give away DH's and DDs' stuffs. I am sorry to hear you are having uncontrolled pain. Fentanyl patch may take up to six hours to work and 12-24 hours to see full affect. The coughing probably doesn't help with the liver pain.
Please do share your pics of your collections of birds when you are up to it. I like birds too. That blue bird looks familiar.
