lobular neoplasia concurrent with DCIS or in margins

Anyone else read the studies, one in March 2009, and one in August 2010 on the significance of lobular neoplasia  with DCIS?  One of the studies was through Sloan Kettering.   Both studies indicate that ALH or LCIS concurrent with DCIS or in the margin creates a significant increased risk of recurrence over DCIS alone.  I mention this because I  got a letter from a BS - who I am not going to use  - saying that the ADH in the margin was only a marker, and didn't make any difference because my risk of recurrence was only from the DCIS.  I am debating sending him the articles, but also wonder if it's worth it.  I hate the idea that women may not be getting all the relevant information before making a decision.

This is why it's so important to have doctors you trust, and one reason I highly advocate using an NCI-designated cancer center if at all possible.  Unfortunately, many local docs (especially general surgeons and oncologists who do not specialize in bc) cannot possibly keep up on the latest research on every type of cancer and other condition.  Also, when new information emerges, there's usually a lag time for docs getting onboard with it.  I would absolutely send that article to the BS who advised otherwise for the exact reason you mentioned -- hopefully helping other women.   Deanna
