At what point in treatment did you start herceptin?
I would really like to know at what point in treatment did people start herceptin before chemo or after and did anyone have mastectomy followed by immediate reconstruction while taking hercetin?
Would really appreciate your story.
Thanks

I started Herceptin as the same time as chemo. Had chemo before surgery. Usually they will take you off Herceptin for Surgery. If I would have benefited from a mastectomy, I would have had immediate reconstruction.
I didn't have very many side effects from Herceptin, did it for 1 year. Chemo was the worst.

I had surgery first, a mascetomy, no choice in the matter. I started chemo and herceptin one month later. I did the TCH chemo regimen and then 33 radiation treatments. The chemo was not soo bad for me. I finished in January, then finished rads about two weeks ago and now I am just doing Herceptin. I will hopefully coninue with Herceptin Until September. My ejection fraction has gone from 55 to 45. This did not cancel my herceptin. I wonder if it could be from the rads. Good luck!

I was diagnosed on a Thursday and started TCH (chemo with Herceptin) the following Monday. Had bmx (complete response to chemo!) with immed recon with TEs after TCH, and I would have still been on Herceptin except my ejection fraction dropped to a point where I needed to take a break from it. Went back on Herceptin after missing two cycles. Did rads and exchange surgery while on Herceptin. Just finished H last Wednesday.

I had mastectomy first - than started chemotherapy - AC first - 4 rounds of that then taxol and that is when herceptin started.

I had surgery first, then started chemo - my onc delayed the first herceptin until the second treatment so as to differentiate if there was any bad reaction.

I was on herceptin while I had my DMX and immediate reconstruction.
I had 4 rounds of AC and 12 taxol. The herceptin started with the taxol and I was on it for almost a year. I had chemo before surgery (NEOADJUVANT)
Neither my onc, BS or PS had any problem with the herceptin.
My onc advised me to not start the tamoxy until after surgery. Something to do with possible blood clots as side effect of the tamoxy.
Hope the best 4u!
