Soy? with HR+
Comments
-
This is my first time on this site. I have not been on any cancer discussion boards before. I was diagnosed almost a year ago (last day of April) as HR positive~ invasive. I have been through chemo, surgery left mastectomy with removal of 15/16 nodes, and radiation. I am on arimedex and have two more sessions of herceptin left. I have been avoiding all soy products, but just found out that my favorite coffee enhancer, Coffee Mate sugar free french vanilla is made with soybean oil. I was wondering if anyone else that was HR positive was avoiding soy altogether. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hullo,
Am definitely staying away from soy and any phytoestrogens for that matter, jury is still out on this one. GMO soy is everywhere and in everything, avoiding it is hard work.
Good luck !

Soybean oil seems to be in everything. I can tell you that I will not have any soy products on purpose, but if a small amount is in something, so be it. I do think that products such as coffee mate are full of crap, and I personally would avoid that.
Try to eat as natural as you can. Lots of fruits and vegetables, whole grain foods, etc.

Thanks for your opinion. My oncologist does not seem to be as concerned about soy products as I am, but I do want to be very careful.

Maui....my onc said that occasional soy was okay....I like tofu and eat it every now and again...I don't read labels for soybean oil, but I don't use that many prepared products...I use soy milk in cooking, but will try to use rice milk instead.....

Thanks to all of you. It helps to hear what others are doing, since my different doctors all seem to say different things. One of my surgeons took me off of Evista right away after diagnosis, where my other one seemed indifferent about it. Anyway, I think I will stay away from CoffeeMate since I know it is in there and one of the first labeled items, but will not obsess about the tiny amounts in ingredients.

Here is an on going discussion that we have been having on this topic. Hope it helps you rather than add to your confusion.
