Is that liver mets--Oh GOD should I worry

Hi,

Finished my radiation last thursday. Will start tamoxifine after 3 wks. I had a sneek look on my file while waiting for the dr. for final check-up before my discharge from radiation onco. I read the CT report which they make before they start your rads. The CT they do for the planning session and simulation. I read that everything is normal, but there is a small cyst I think less than 3 mm in the thyroid gland. Also I read decreased area of attenuation in the liver and it says could be cyst or hem...somthing I forgot which I belive b9, and it says however mets can not be exluded!!!!

Never had my dr brought this report to my attention, nor did she say anything about it.

I called my dr. and told him and he said he saw the report he is aware about it, but nothing is of concern or worry. He told me all the times they C cysts in the liver and this is normal. He said nothing to worry about. My upcoming PET is in July. I don't want to burn those 3 month in worry. Please help

I am sure someone more knowlegeable will come along, but I do believe that  "mets can not be excluded" is quite common on reports for liver spots. They just need to cover their bases.

My younger sister had spots on her liver for several years after Stage II dx which were scary.  All ended up benign.

Please try not to stress too much - I know, easier said that done.

My mom had the exact same thing happen. Her radiologist explained to us that the vast majority of the population have "normal abnormals" on scans but most people will never know about it unless they are being scanned. (and most people have no reason to be scanned.)  I have also heard that radiologist are sued quite often so they are extra carefull inculed all possibilties so it can't be said that they missed something. I think your situation is quite normal and I pray you get a good nights sleep tonight- sweet dreams....

Please don't scare yourself unnecessarily.  Hemangioma's are intwined blood vessels and

it is probably benign.  Maybe this link will help.

I have the same thing. I had a CT of my lungs and they found a 1 cm spot on my liver. My onc is totally unconcerned, but honestly, I don't like not knowing what that thing is!!

    hugs to you.

Hi - just a note - not once since being dx have I ever not had that kind of note attached to any ultrasound or scan or..anything! I try to not get scared about it and my GP just told me they have to cover themselves somehow - expect that kind of 'rider' for the rest of your life he told me, take care

exact same thing happened to me!  I snuck a look at my PET and it said multiple cysts rescan in six month for possible mets!  I freaked out, and my onc said they are just cysts, notbing to worry about, they have to put that to cover themeselves.  So far i've been NED....

    Hope that helps, Laura

    Polyana....
I had the same thing....my oncologist had a policy of scanning in the middle of chemo......they saw something cyst-like on my liver and it said the same thing as yours......my liver enzymes were much higher so I was freaking out....i took my treatment out of state and I was in a hotel room alone when I read the report....frightening.  But....I soon found out that your liver enzymes are generally elevated during chemo and that if you turned us all inside out we would all have bumps and lumps which are normal.  But i get where you are....just know that I am nearly 7 years out with the same report and all is fine!

Cysts are like bags of water. They are not malignant. Many people have cysts in many organs which are of no concern unless they become so large they interfere with function. Hemangiomas are like clumps of blood vessels. They are benign. The majority if the population has nodules on their thyroid. Unless thyroid function is impaired, or the nodule is over 1cm, they rarely do anything about it.

    Hope this helps.
