asymetrical nodes found on MRI

Hi all, thank you so much for sharing your info for those of us just starting this journey. It really helps!!

Here I go.  Had my first mammography guided stereotactic biospy in Feb for microcalcifications.  Showed DCIS and some LCIS.  Low to intermediate grade with some comedo.  I then changed clinics.  New clinic ordered a MRI, had that March 16.  Got the call that it showed a new area of enhancement and that they wanted to biopsy that also.  This Thursday had a MRI guided biospy followed by a mammogram to see if the clip was in place. Then they said that I was scheduled for an ultrasound.  I didn't know about it so had no clue what it was for.  I asked the doc what the purpose of the ultrasound was and she said that some asymetrical lymph nodes had showed up on my MRI.  Right then everything got a whole lot scarier!!  I asked a lot of questions since I didn't think that DCIS could ever get into the nodes.  She told me that she was ordering a biospy before I have surgery to check them out. Didn't get the answers that I wanted so asked to speak to someone else.  I was pretty hysterical at this point.  They took me to a room and sent in another radiologist to answer my questions.  Thank goodness someone found my surgeon and she came right in and sent the radiologist out.  She told me that she wouldn't be doing a biospy before surgery and that we would wait for the results of the latest biospy to see what it showed.  She told me that my lymphs could be thickened due to my first biospy in Feb.  Let's hope so!!!  The first doc didn't even tell me that this was a possibility.  I'm glad I asked the questions that I did because if I had left right away I would have stressed all weekend thinking the worst.  My bs did say that there is always a possibility that some invasive can show up and I had already learned that on these boards so I am prepared for that as much as I can possibly be.  The waiting to find out is so hard and I'll be glad to know what type of surgery I'm having and get moving on this.  Has anyone out there had asymetrical lymph nodes after a biospy?? Thank you for your help.

    Hi there,

My breast surgeon thought my lymph nodes on both sides (right and left) felt "fluidy" and palpable and said it could have been due to biopsies (I had them on both sides.) At surgery, it turned out that I did have an involved lymph node on the right side, but none on the left.

I know this will not totally put your mind at ease, but my point is that yes, a biopsy can affect the lymph nodes even though they are benign. (However, it could possibly be due to cancer involvement.) I hope it is not the latter! But even if it were, you would get good treatment and you should be fine.

    Best of luck!
