Kathy - Kendall is so excited that she still get to go on the trip with her class to NYC and DC. She is enjoying shopping for a new dress to wear to the Broadway play they will be going to see. She is all smiles these days. We are so blessed to have her home and things getting back to their new normal. Thank for all your prayers for her and the family. It has been a long haul and she still has some healing to do, but at least she is not in the hospital anymore. 37 days was enough! AJ

Chrissy, LOL, i think it is real funny that they call it forcing the paper whites to bloom. All you have to do is put the bulbs in water and in a sunny window. But during this dreary season before spring really gets here it sure is nice to see something blooming.
Lisa those poppies are beautiful. So you grow them and shoot them? Multi talented for sure.
barb, good to see you popping in.
AJ that is so great that Kendall gets to go on her class trip. Just being with her friends will bring healing.
what a treat 3 jays to get some real talk time with Chrissy. That certainly must have brought a smile to your face.
my mouse is not working so since I cannot scroll back and forth, I have lost one post, so this will be short. I still am not seeing exactly clearly and then I caught a heck of a cold (?) so I am back to coughing, I did get started on anti bs very quickly, so hopefully this to shall pass.
nighty night lovely ladies

I just bought one of the icelandic poppy plants, with many different colors of flowers..I think I paid $3 for it and it has been worth every penny...
-
Could it be the plant is grafted and that is why it blooms in different colors. Beautiful regardless.
Hugs Ginger
-
I have no clue, Ginger, but it doesnt look that way
-
this what I wake up to every morning.
-
Nancy that is just sooooo cute! I just love your little squirrels even though I know they can be a pest I still think they are just it and a bit!
-
Hey Chrissy, I know a lot of people think of them as pests, but I think of them as "pets" The chipmucks are even cuter but we don't have as many of them. I feel so bad for the birds and little animals when there is snow on the ground.
So I have managed to catch "pink eye" in my good eye. I just have to laugh, what next?
-
Oh Nancy! It just seems to be one thing after another for you! Hopefully by the time spring arrives you will be over all of it and raring to go and enjoy the world again.......sure hope so anyway.
I had never seen a real squirrel until I visited there in 2011. I was truly fascinated with them and found a few places where I could just watch and observe their antics. I only saw one little chipmunk and that was while travelling the cog rail in Colorado and I had to be very quick to get a glimpse........lol......they are fast!!! -
Nancy, bless your heart! Pink eye is a mess. Hope it gets better soon.
Chrissy, no squirrels in Australia? We're surely blessed with them here. A couple of years ago they chewed the vent pipes on our roof so badly we replaced them with iron pipes. We could hear them gnawing all the time, and DH would frantically charge out the door with a slingshot to scare them off. DH is NOT an expert slingshot marksman, so no damage done to the squirrels!
I'd sure like to hear from Isabella. Worried about her.
Lisa, love the poppy pictures!
Kathy
-
Kathy, nope, no squirrels in Aus.........I dont know if they could stand the heat.......lol. I can just picture your DH charging through the door while linning up the slingshot! What a picture!......hahahaha! So glad he's not a good shot.
I'm also starting to get concerned about Isabella.......we haven't heard from her since she reported about her really bad back pain and waiting for the Locum. Sure hope she is okay.
Lisa Ive seen a lot of flower pics over the years but yours really bring them to life! Such a talent!
Have a good night all!
Love n hugs. Chrissy
-
thanks Chrissy...it is just fun for me..glad I can share them
-
Kathy, what in the world would squirrels eat vent pipes for? I know the woodpeckers use to get into my roof gutters and peck, which would make alot of noise. I finally had a guard put over the gutters, supposedly to keep the leaves out but works well for the birds, too.
Yes, I do hope Isabella is ok, and is safe and sound.
Actually, I hope that for all of you ladies.
Thanks for your concern, I think I just have to get my immune system to kick back in. (easier said than done!)
-
Nancy, I've no idea why the squirrels tried to eat the vent pipes--maybe they weren't getting enough food from our bird feeders? I figured maybe they were trying to sharpen their teeth!
Kathy
-
Worried about Isabella too. WOuld love to hear from her.
The squirrels used to try to get into our attic. I had a squirrel proof bird feeder and it was fun to watch the guys try to get in. I also had a little tiny bench thingy on the fence where I could put an ear of corn for the squirrels to eat. They were fun to watch.
-
Squirrels will eat anything if they think it will lead to food. Vent pipes carry all the fumes from our homes including cooking. While we would not be able to smell them a squirrel can! They are cute, but can cause a lot of damage.
-
AJ, I can see them being attracted to MY cooking, but looks like DH's would scare them away! He's lately taken to making hummus (is that how it's spelled?) with boiled peanuts instead of chickpeas and loads it down with so much garlic I have to triple wrap it after he's already wrapped it once. I don't care for garlic particularly in mass quantities but DH loves it. When I turn on my bi-pap at night it's retained the garlic smell.
DH finally found a food he didn't like, though. It's kim-chee (I think), some kind of fermented cabbage mixture that's the national food of Korea. (DH went to the Asian Market yesterday.) I couldn't believe he actually doesn't like something!

I love this place, year round
-
Oh Lisa, those flowers are gorgeous. Were they taken in Balboa Park? Have done the Zoo and the Japanese Friendship Garden. So much more to do. I love San Diego! Been there twice. My husband used to travel there all the time when he worked and would always say he wanted to move there when he retired. I was skeptical until we took a trip there after his retirement.
-
Sigh - the flowers are breathtaking. We have almost melting snow, brown things and soon lots of mud. In a couple of months there will be flowers.
-
Oooo Lisa, those orchids are stunning! I love the way you put them all together to really make a feast for the eyes!
Heading out to see my GP in the city in a few moments, it's that time again........lol. I sometimes feel like a fraud going to see him but I guess he wants to keep a close eye in me so anything unto wards can be caught early........sigh!.......it just seems like a waste of a day to drive all that way only to be told....you are doing well.......lol.......at least it's good news and not bad.
Have a great day all!
Love n hugs. Chrissy -
kath..when my husband retired from the Navy in 1983, he asked me where would we go...I said " I don't know about you, but I am staying right here in San Diego." Of course he had to have a second 20 year career and he retired from that ten years ago..I am not budging...I have lived all over the US and Spain..this is the best place for me...and yes, I took those last week in Balboa Park..Crissy didn't have time to see it properly..
-
I hope that is what you hear Chrissy - those visits where all is well are the best therapy for me.
Well, that and the occasional drink of Scotch whiskey.
-
I want to move some where warm, with flowers all year long! It is blowing another gale, and alternating snow and rain. The daffodils are trying to come up, but it does not feel like spring!
I saw on another thread that someone had heard from Isabella, but she was still in pain.
I am starting to feel better and can see more clearly, too.
Chrissy, hope you got the all clear!
One of my priorities is to travel more. In all my travels I have never made it to CA. I grew up in FL though and when I got out of school couldn't wait to get out of there. Now I'm wondering why?
-
I have lived three places in TX, PA, Michigan, IL, three places in VA, RI, three places in NY, Three places in CA, Spain, ..I grew up with snow and kissed it goodbye except when I WANT to go see it..tomorrow it is supposed to snow about 45 minutes from here..at 5,000 feet..we have sixties or seventies..
-
You can see the difference here...snow and surf..
-
Oh, I love that, snow on the mountains and a bright sunny sky. Lisa, you definitely have the best of both worlds in San Diego. I have to ask since you lived in so many places. Was it hard to get used to not having seasonal changes? Have done a couple of the shopping malls and was so surprised to see them open like they used to be here.
-
We do have seasonal changes Kath, but they are subtle..and yes most of the malls are open as we only get about 10 inches of rain a year...it is funny because in winter our hills are green, summer brown, we have trees both that lose leaves and those that don't..some flowers are seasonal..most rose gardens cut back in January for a March or April bloom through December...it is cool in the winter and mild in the summer...and not humid..
I just love it here...
