though i guess it depends in my bldg it is gone in 2 minutes LOL

im working on decluttering this week

now to get rid of some of the silver it is not real

but it is very pretty i cant use.. too heavey for my hands

Hi all, I haven't been here in ages but plan on moving later this year so need to start letting go of stuff before I list the place for sale.

I have sold some small items on eBay over the years.  I only list stuff easy to pack and ship and things that may not have 30 million other sellers listing the same item.  I don't price them high either since it's sell for at least a small sum or give away for nothing.  So now, anything I get around to listing, if it doesn't sell I heard of a lady who does semi-annual garage sale where all proceeds go to a charity so I will set aside for her.

I also get rid of things by posting for free on www.freecycle.org.  That has worked well for some larger household items (microwave cart, shelves) where I just have to leave it out for whoever says they will pick up.

So I need to start coming here at least weekly to be accountable and get this done.

Teka - I wish I had some hair on my legs....cute.

Well it is time to start to declutter again. My house is about 60% free at this point. My mild OCD keeps things organized BUT I still have too much stuff. That basement is still full of extra kitchen stuff and things I need to go through. Too many plastic bins. I still have 1 big box that was my moms with little cups and saucers and stuff. Probably not worth much but need to have it looked at before I donate. I have to face facts. I am 61 not 41. If I do not use most of my stuff now....when? My Dr in Beverly Hills used to say "You spend the first 60 years years buying all this stuff and spend the next 20 getting rid of it all". If I am going to get down to a 1,000 - 1200 sq ft place I have got to get busy. I am at 1600 right now and that is not big really but too many hiding spaces. Espacially that basement. Before I can sell I have to have someone go up in my attic crawl space and see what is up there. Hopefully nothing living...like birds and bats.

Hi Bunkie!

One thing I am in the process of doing is using the "good" stuff every day.  So we eat with sterling silver cutlery instead of the every day stuff.  And as soon as I can change around my dish closets, the good dishes will be the every day ones.  One day I started to wonder, why am I saving this stuff---and I polished the silver and moved it into the kitchen.  So it might be a way to use some things like your mother's cups and to enjoy them.

Spent a couple of hours today going through stuff--have four trash bags of stuff that is actually trash; one box of stuff for charity; and gave a magazine rack to the friend who helped me...so making a small dent in my never-ending stuff. :-)

Last year, I started getting nervous about the amount of charitable deductions we took on our taxes, so as we packed up stuff to take to the hospice thrift store or Goodwill, I took pictures of EVERYTHING... just in case we were ever audited.

I didn't think too much about that until this morning, when DH and I attempted to start our taxes. I realized I hadn't filed any of the scribbled lists I'd made of things we donated, nor could I find them anywhere. ARGHHH! 

So I went through all my pics for 2013 and printed up all the ones of donated stuff.

OMG!!!!! I am stunned - and proud of myself - at how much we got rid of!!!

Not looking forward to inputting everything in individually (Turbo Tax) but I know it will help financially as well as mentally!!!

Great idea to take photos. You can't be challenged in an audit that way--much better than just having a list.

Mandy - I have some good flatwear too and my everyday is getting ratty. I think I will pull out the good stuff this weekend.

Onco, You have to kitten proof just like you baby proof. I came home one night to find bits of white stuff all over the kitchen. They had torn off the flannel backing for the plastic tablecloth. And they're famous for jumping on piles that slide.

Teka, One of our foster cats kept jumping in the tub after we showered. He kept it up until we discovered he wanted the water turned on for a drink. We never could teach him to turn it off when he was done.

Anyone have a kitty that dips her paw in the water bowl and sucks the water off instead of lapping it up like a normal cat?

@Blessings2011, I have had cats that picked up water in their paws the way you describe, and also cats that pick up kibble with their paws.

We had a cat who would take one kibble at a time out of the bag with her paw. Much better than the ones who chew holes in the bottom.

I have no recent cat stories because I am allegic but they sure are cute. I am an animal lover regardless of the allergies but just do not own an animal at this time. When I lived in Cali I had an outdoors wild cat that I got as a kitten and he would climb on the screen door or scratch on the picture window when he was hungry. Then I would feed him and he would go away.

I went down 10 more cookbooks this week and spring cleaned my two bedrooms upstairs. Ok I will be honest I saw a couple black ants in my bedroom already and decided to clean. Got up any and all crumbs. dust, changed and washed all the bedding and washed windows. I hate ants and my house is really old so I get them in the spring.
