I havent made an appt yet but will within the next 2 days but would like to have things in order for appt.  Is the pathology report all that is need for the first appt?

Anewbeginning - should be. So you have had surgery and now the onc is deciding your treatment? I had a lumpectomy and SN biopsy. The Path report came back a few days later. The BS office called me with the report. I picked my oncologist. She decided to have me take the oncotype test because I was Stage 1 Grade 1 but they found a micromet in the SN. I waited for 9 days and the oncotype test came back, thankfully, with a low number. I saw my onc and she decided I did not need chemo based on the low score and the fact the cancer was non-aggressive so she said radiation for 6 weeks followed by Arimidex for 5 years. Your BS should have forwarded the Path report to your oncologist.

Edwards my surgeon doesnt even know Im going to an Oncologist as of yet.  He thought I do not need chemo but from all the stories I have read here I think it is safe to get Onco opinion.

    Sending good vibes your way!

Anew beginning - just checking the website and wondered what happened with your appt. And thankyou for the good vibes. Just had my second surgery to take out more tissue - the BS said he needed to even up the margins. Lot of pain since the surgery. BS office said because my breast is still tender from the lumpectomy which was only a month ago. Scar looks hideous but pain pills are helping with the pain. Didnt have much pain at all the first time so this was kind of a bummer. Seeing BS on Tuesday and from what I hear it will be a month before radiologist sees me about radiation. Good my boob and I need a respite....diane

ANewbeginning...I would say to bring whatever you have to the onc -- path report will definitely be needed, but if you have additional reports -- mammo, ultrasound, MRI, post operative from the Breast Surgeon, OncoType DX report if you had this test done, etc -- bring them too.  My mom has IDC and I took her to a second onc for a second opinion and they requested all of this.  So, whatever you have is worthwhile to take.  And seeing an Onc in addition to your Breast Surgeon is always a good idea.  Good luck!!

I called and asked what the onc would need. The office said all my tests would be forwarded to him so I just brought my insurance card and my credit card!

It is my understanding that everyone sees an oncologist after surgery so that he/she can discuss further treatment with you.

I only saw the surgeon once after the lumpectomy and nobody mentioned a follow-up with him. So I guess he is out of the picture unless I have a problem with the surgery site.

Im so glad your surgery is over with but sorry to hear you are in pain this time.  I did see the Onco on Monday and she told me No chemo!!!!  Just what I wanted to hear but of course as you know I will still worry if any cells escaped before the lumpectomy, but I will not let it take over my life.  I do feel a bit more positive. She also told me I am not DCIS stage 0, I am stage 1 because of the infiltration.

By time you read this I hope your pain is gone and you get good new at your next appt.

    hugs to ya!

I did bring all my reports and biopsies to the Onco.  I liked her very much and if I ever need chemo .......hopefully never............I would choose her.  She explained everything clearly and made sure she eased my crazy mind.  I do feel better after seeing her.

Hope all is well with you!

    Hugs to ya!

Thanks for the reply.  I am still seeing my surgeon only because I am healing slowly from my lumpectomy and am still draining.  He has packed it now and hopefully it will heal quicker.

Most woman dont have to see BS once they get their follow-up usually 1-2 weeks post surgery.

    hugs to ya!
