Needing help to understand..

I am feeling very confused and lost and don't know where to get info or what info is right or what I should do.. I am needing some opnions and hopefully some help in taking the next step..

I had a lump removed from my left breast on March 8th 2011, and the results came back on the 11th stating I have high grade intraduct carcinoma with comedo clinging and growth pattern, no invasive carcinoma identified, involves approx. 1cm of sampled breast tissue, carcinoma in situ is present within 0.1cm of biopsy margins, background of florid fibrocystic change, including radial scar formation, sclerosing adenosis, columnar cell and atypical ductal epithelial hyperplasia.

I read this over and over and I don't even know where to begin with trying to disect this information.. Any help would be wonderful..

You need to ask your surgeon to explain what it means. I know that sclerosing adenosis is a benign form of breast lump, and of course many others may chime in with more knowledge than me, but these are complex terms and you need to ask your doctor what parts of the report should be worrying you and what parts are fine.

If your surgeon is not helpful, ask the hospital for someone who can explain the terms to you. Be assertive; you have a right to know!!

intraductal carcinoma is another term for ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). It is classfied as Stage 0. It means that the cancer is not "invasive" and just contained in the ducts. Treatment for DCIS is usually surgery and radiation. No chemo is given. There is a lot of information on the DCIS forum that will help you sort things out.
