Calmare Pain Therapy Treatment

Options

Hi to all!

I initially started a thread about this treatment in the wrong area of this forum; for that I apologize. I was wondering if anyone has heard of "Calmare" therapy for treatment of chronic pain and chemo induced neuropathy. My oncologist introduced it into her office today and I was it's first user.

This device is supposed to alleviate and/or get rid of pain and numbness caused while under cancer treatment. My first experience managed to alleviate the pain and neuropathy I've had in my right wrist as a result from using Ixempra. Not get rid of the pain but did diminish it. I've still several more sessions to go. It's a huge machine, about as big as an EKG machine with several electrodes that are hooked up near the areas of pain or numbness. Once it was turned on, I received little jolts, pins and needles feelings, and mini vibrations in my extremities. The first session lasted 60 minutes and I believe the next several should be about 45 minutes long each time. It is my hope to eradicate my neuropathy.

Now this isn't covered under insurance but it is FDA approved. I've been told it isn't covered because it's not the standard level of treatment used at this time to treat chronic pain and neuropathy but that hopefully will change if more positive feedback is received.

The last thread I started on this was met with marked skepticism by a physician who seems dead set against this; even mentioning the possibility of this device offering nothing more than a placebo effect. I'm not cured but I'm hopeful and wanted to share my experience with the wonderful ladies on this site.

4th day using this therapy. The nights have been bad; nerves are reawakening that have been dormant for so long, so there is pain felt after the initial treatment. Then the pain diminishes and some of the feeling seems to be returning in certain areas. My knees aren't so 'squishy' for lack of a better term. As a matter of fact I'm able to bend my right knee w/o much pain. Still have numbness in my LE's but my balance is better and I have slight feeling in the tips of my toes. My doctor's office might implement this their office.
