TN-had Double Mastectomy 4 days ago
Long story, but I was finally diagnosed in Feb. (after a mammo and core biopsy came back: "no problem". )
Luckily, my surgeon said: "This is a case where it looked like a duck, walked like a duck--but now they're saying it's a pig." In other words, because I DID have lumps that could be felt, a retracted nipple, and family history--when I was told the "core" biopsy was 97% accurate, I couldn't believe it--and neither did he.
A surgical biopsy and MRI showed what the problem was....5 cancerous areas found in one breast but both were removed Wednesday--and also 8 lymph nodes. Haven't heard back on those yet--"Monday we'll know, but preliminarily we don't believe they're cancerous.") But as I told my daughters (I'm 47): "I've heard that **** before."
Bottom line---is there anyone else "out there" like me? Double mastectomy and TN?
I'm just having a bad day--I think it would help if I knew that there were some (or many) survivors of this stuff like me?

Hi Sheryl,
I am an ibc, triple neg survivor of 3+ years. I had chemo, bilateral mastectomy (5 positive nodes) & rads 2008.
Another teacher at my school is triple-neg. She had chemo & rads but no surgery. She is a 1 1/2 years out.
It's wondrerful to come to a place like this & know others that have been where you are right now. It would have been so nice to have that when I was going through treatment but I didn't find this forum until a few months ago.
Sending good thoughts & prayers your way. NJ

Thank you for the thoughts and prayers. The more people I hear who are on the other side the stronger I feel. This is a great site and I'm glad I found it early.

Sheryl: Feel free to introduce yourself on the Calling all TNs thread... you'll find lots of women there who have had Mx or double Mx.

I would never question anyone's decision to have a lumpectomy with TN, but since it is aggressive and has a higher recurrence rate, I think you should be glad you did the BLM. I know I'm glad I did. They say recurrence rate is the same, but you won't need rads, you'll have matching boobs, and in my opinion, more peace of mind since your breast tissue is gone. Before you know it, you'll be healed and you'll be done chemo. Best of luck to you!

Yesterday was the three year anniversary of my double bmx, and I have not regretted it once.
