Fred's song to his Mum.

This is Fred Day’s song to his Mum who has just left hospital (Mar 2011) after her second mastectomy.  Earlier in the year I interviewed 17 y.o. Fred on radio about his rap music - he is pretty good. At the end of the interview, and off-air, he told me it had been a very hard year as his Mum had been in hospital with breast cancer.  I suggested he might write a song about her.  A week later he called me and said he had finished the song. I was quite gob smacked, as few take up the challenge.  Then when I heard it I shed a tear.  I called a friend who many years ago had a mastectomy and reconstruction and hit her up for money to record his song - she agreed.  Another friend created the film clip.  At a local event Fred was the performer.  The audience were 40 - 70 year old and Fred and his mate looked a little out of place.  His first song was a rap song.  Raised eyebrows.  Then he performed “My Mother” - many in the audience broke down including his Mum.  Needless to say I think the world of Fred.  His heart.  His love of his Mum.  She told me he hardly said a word during her treatment - but his song brings out his feelings - they were waiting to come out and his music did the trick.
