Hi,

My mom was just recently diagnosed with Triple Negative breast cancer. She had her masectomy and now starting her chemo regiment. She's on dose-dense ACT regiment. I'm wondering if this is the standard treatment for triple negative breast cancer. If anyone has gone through the same regiment or if anyone can tell me where to find more information, please let me know. Any input is much appreciated

Hi Blar- I am not in Vancouver, but  ACT is a common regimen as is TC (Taxotere/Cytoxin). You didn't mention what stage and node involvement your mother has. Those can affect what her treatment may be. I am stage 1, no nodes and received 4 tx of TC. Check out the Calling all TNs thread. You will find alot of helpful info there from those in the US, Canada and all over!! Wishing your mother the very best!

High Blar, I live in the Vancouver area. I'm not triple negative but found the information on the BCCA website most useful when I was considering chemo. My BS suggested I use the "Health Professionals Info" when looking for information on the site: http://www.bccancer.bc.ca

If you look at Table 2 on the page below you can see the chemo regimens suggested for ER Negative cancer, which one depends on other risk factors whether node positive or negative for example. The protocols for each of the various chemos are also available on the site.

PM me if  you need any help finding your way around the website -- it is certainly not very user friendly.

Blar: That is a very common regimen for triple negative. I did dose dense AC (4 treatments over 8 weeks), followed by 12 weekly infusions of taxol. Look up your mother's chemo start date (month) on the chemotherapy board - you can connect with others going through the same thing at the same time. Also the Calling all TNs is very helpful on this board.

For me, the chemo was very tolerable. I felt kinda flu-ish for a few days after AC, achey, had some heart palpitations, a mouth sore or two, and fatigue.  Weekly taxol was much easier to tolerate, though I had muscle fatigue near the end. Every woman is different. Hopefully any SEs will be manageable for your mom.
