did your 1st surveillance MRI have lots of call backs?
I was told by my Dr not to get concerned if I get a cal-back after very first mri (surveillance) because they don't have a basline yet so they will want to check everything they see. Plus I have dense breasts, mammo's aren't great to read.
Just wondering if this has happened to other high-riskers and whether lots of people got call backs that were nothing. 44 yo.

I was never told that but now that you mention it I did get called back after my1st MRI for something found in the other breast( previously LCIS found in right breast). I had an MRI assist biopsy done and it was negative. I've several more annual MRIs done with no further followup needed.

I was also never told that, but it doesn't surprise me. With MRI's it picks up everything.
One of the reasons that insurance companies balk at covering MRI's is because for the costs of them they do turn up a high percentages of false positives.
So yea, if you get a call back, don't freak. It wouldn't be surprising to get a false reading.

I'm another one that was never told that. I did have something on my first MRI that radiologist felt most likely was benign in nature and did not recommend a biopsy. I insisted on a follow-up mammo and fortunately it was completely clear. Same thing happened with my 2nd MRI and a follow-up US was completely clear. It's good to have other tests available to follow-up with, it gives more peace of mind.

I had my first Mammy when I was 34. Even though the doc felt no lumps or anything unusual, the mammy revealed a 4cc x 5cc tumor. My internist sent me to a BS who reviewed the film, carefully examined me, felt absolutely nothing, said my film had obviously been mixed up with another patient, but was a very wise doc. He immediately ordered another Mammy and US. Still there! He examined me again and still could not feel anything at all, but knowing exactly where the unfeelable thing was, did a needle bioposy, and scheduled surgery to remove whaterever it was for the next day.
It was not b/c but was precancerous. I have had yearly mammies every year since and US yearly. I had additional surgery about 5 yrs after the first for again, something else appeared. Again, not b/s, My first MRI was last summer and I had to fight like the devil to get the doc to order it for my mammy was only "abnormal." It was fine, but my Mammy a couple of weeks ago shows yet another "benign appearing area" in my breast.
My bs has recommended a PMX for both breasts and I am actually relieved. I am so ***** tired of getting call backs, having absolutely no one with half a brain being able to tell me when something appearing benign becomes cancer. I have a very strong family history of bc and you can tell from what I have written, my own history is not all that good.
So, in the end, I really am uncertain what lots of call backs really means for one's future risk of bc but I suspect it may not be a good sign. I suppose it depends on your personal family history, BRACA, and too many other things to mention. The good thing about call backs is simple - another set of eyes had the opportunity to view the images. This can't be all that bad...
