What should I expect? URGENT HELP NEEDED

Options

Last yesar Dec 2009, I found out stage 3 breast cancer was Her+.  After chemo and radiation and mastecotomy, less that 5 months later it is matastisized and now triple negative.  I have heard prognosis and survival is poor...no one will give me real idea...I was vaguely told less than 2 years.  It is already in my lung, could someone give me some honest answer and advice how to cope with this whicle working full time as teacher, keeping family from panicing, and trying to do things I never did (couldn't afford--like visit Europe) and keep sanity.  Battling depression is the worst.  My doctor cannot even recommend what treatment and said I should pick one... HELP!!!!!!!!!!

I am so sorry you're going through this, Pamsbusy.  I too am TN but not stage 4. You can  call the Triple Negative Foundation, or FORCE (Facing Our Risk). CancerCare.org also has a TN Hotline: 877-880-tnbc. They're all good resources for your questions.

There's no cure, once its mets, but some women have been managed.  I just met a woman on another site who's TN has gone to her lungs. She went on, I'm not sure, so please don't quote me, but I thought she said it was Arabaxane. The tumor was smaller at each scan therafter and she has been clear for 8 months now.  Ask about PARP inhibitors. Good luck, sending good thoughts your way.

I thought this might encourage you a bit.  The guidance counselor at my former school had breast cancer mets with which she was diagnosed five years ago.  It was in her bones and lungs.  I have no idea what her stats are, but I do know that though she is using a walker because of the bone mets, she is still teaching and seems to be doing OK!  Good luck to you.  I am putting you on my prayer list.

You might also want to visit the stage 4 board here.
