So...whats for dinner?

Special, keeping my fingers crossed and sending healthy wishes that you will be back to your energizer bunny self next weekend! Hope it is a wonderful Christmas celebration!
I agree with the idea that it is lovely to share our time honored holiday traditions with our young'ens. My guys rarely fuss about me doing such things, except if they see me getting stressed under the pressure, in which case they would like me to abandon traditional preparation for a more relaxed mother! Having a family of boys/men has its own issues in that area...such as minimal help in the kitchen, except for clean up...for which I am thankful.
Eric love the sound of that zimmet kuchen! And how lovely for you to be able to pass it on to extended family.
DH already took down our ,charlie .brown Christmas tree (please excuse all my ridiculous typos...keyboard really acting out and not even letting me jump back to make any corrections). So, easy to out up and easy to take down! And it really looked cute...and since we just had DS2 here for Christmas Eve and we spent Christmas dinner with our friends, no one minded our mini tree. I rather enjoyed it! We ended up hearing from several friends this year who did not put up a tree. Hmmmm, so far I can only imagine going Charlie Brown. And nextvyear, if DS2 and dgf are with us for the holiday, we may return to "big" since she is hugely intoChristmas.
Over and out before the white apple rears its ugly head. This machine really acts up on this site.....
Hope everyone is getting a bit of relax time in or getting lots of coding in. ;

Susan, the 610 is the one I had that got killed by the power surge a year or so ago. I replaced it with the cuisinart 5.5 quart I love the cuisinart but I'm not sure you would. It's very much lighter than the KA, one of the reasons I chose it. It has handled everything I've thrown in it, but it does seem to struggle some with a whole batch of bagels. I've found things work better if I split the batch in two. I've made other sticky or dense doughs in it with no problem. I'm assuming it's the volume. The larger model may not have that issue. A couple of things I don't like about it are it doesn't whip cream nearly as quickly as the KA (minor), and the pasta attachments suck (major). They got returned to the store. I've never had it threaten to quit on me, unlike two previous KAs that actually DID quit, which is how I ended up with the 610. I love the timer, how easy it is to clean and the weight. Also it's overall performance.
I waffled and stewed about a replacement. I feel your pain.

Susan, doesn't Nancy have a strong mixer? Or maybe I am thinking about my hairdresser who has an industrial one. Good luck
-
Haha, you snuck in there while I was typing on this beast, Nancy.

-
Susan, I like the globe lol!
-
I hate it when stuff is "X number of watts" or "Y number of amps". Those numbers give a kinda-sorta-somewhat-glimpse of what it will do if pushed to the absolute limit, but the real question to ask is, "How long will it work at that level before it overheats or gives up?" and no one will ever give a straight answer to that question.
My mom had a Hobart mixer that I think could have doubled as a cement mixer. It dimmed the lights when it was turned on. I had no room for the thing (wished I did have the room), so they sold it a bakery right before they moved over here.
-
Lacey, you mean Santa didn't bring you a new ipad????
Eric -- I was going to recommend a Hobart too.
-
The hobart is my third link.... looks like one hell of a machine!
-
Boy, Susan, that Globe would be perfect for you if you had the space and electrical capacity.
Nancy, the Ipad replacement will happen.... we have both been too busy to stand in line at any tech stores, and DH wants me to try the options out...so I am bumbling along until everone has made their returns/exchanges.

Today after our walk, I felt like making a "clean" dinner. So, we picked up some salmon which I marinated in lemon, ginger, honey, garlic sauce, which I served over a bed of sauteed tuscan kale and onions, and with butternut squash and a cuke/ red peppe salad. It was really satisfying! Now if only my neighbor had not come over with homemade chocoate pecan carmel crunch....so much for clean eating.
Off to watch Love Actually......
-
Lacey,
Have you read the Site Thread? Lots of people have problems with their iPad on this site.... might not be your iPad.
The Globe seems extravagant, and then I would have to buy a pasta machine and a meat grinder. Damn this is a large question!
*susan*
-
Susan, do you really need the downstairs half bath?
-
susan...I'd better check that out....but the pad is not behaving well overall, just that this is the worst place to try to type....incredibly unstable.
Now I am getting a kick out of an image of a new giant mixer owning the downstairs "throne" in your house. What a surprise for guests!

-
Lacey, some time ago I was having major posting problems on this site. I assumed it was my phone. Turned out, it was the browser. I switched browsers and have had no further typing problems.
Really enjoyed reading about everyone's Christmas celebrations. Will try to get a food post later today.
Sk, hope you're better today!
-
The Hobart my mom had.... had a "power take off" (yes, the tractor reference was used on purpose:-) for attachments...and there must have been some sort of standard, as she used attachments from a lot of companies.
Maybe old attachments would still fit a new mixer???????
-
auntie - maybe finally turning the corner - less congestion, but starting to cough - not sure if this is progress?
-
Hopefully it is progress..and you're back to normal in time for Christmas II.
-
eric - yes, feeling human for Christmas: The Sequel, is the goal, lol! I am determined!
-
Special K----we are sisters of the Cold. I've been sniffling and blowing a week on Christmas Eve, finally caved this a.m. when the barking cough kept me up all night and went to "Prompt Care" and 2.5 hours later I saw a nice doctor who told me my ears were moderately full and my nose was WOW CONGESTED.... no crackle in my chest yet, so he gave me a Z-pak and steroid and told me to run a vaporizer at night and get to the doctor the first crackle I hear, but hopefully we would be proactive enough to coral it before that happens.... Eating leftover ham, Gypsy Cold Care Tea , and cup of soups..... -
Special and Red I am so glad you have turned the corner, or are going to soon.
I Finally made something worthy of this discussion
Eggplant Parmesan. My brother ate 1/2 of a 9x12 pan upon his arrival! He's 6'1" and was hungry
Then I took one small red onion, tossed it with 1 tbs olive oil and salt and pepper and roasted it for 15 minutes on 425 in a single layer, then I added 4 cups halved Brussels sprouts, similarly treated and added them to the pan for 25 minutes. Yum!
Went horseback riding today with a horse named Blue. He was a sweety and put up with me. I loved his velvet nostrils, his hay-horse smell and his blowing/snorting air out through his nose. He made fog because it was cold. He loved me scratching behind his ears I think we are in love. lol
Love to all
-
One half of a 9X12 pan of Eggplant Parmesan??? That sounds like DD. :-)
-
Bedo - if I remember, you're vegetarian, right? I ran across a few easy recipes lately that I sent my DIL & I can dig them out for you if you want. So glad to see you back.
In the meantime, I plan to roast an onion & some fingerling potatoes since I have no Brussels sprouts. I'm also planning on making Laurie's salsa chicken for New Years. I know I'm in the South & I'm cheating with the black beans instead of black eyed peas, but I think my luck will hold.
Made hot gingerbread today for my domino friends. We put lots of whipped cream on the top. Someone else brought a fruit tray & mixed berry spreadable cream cheese (strawberry, raspberry & boysenberry) in addition to the sesame dip. Another lady baked crackers that had been tossed w/oil & sprinkled w/dry Hidden Valley ranch dressing - only she also added some really hot spices. Someone brought shrimp dip. And there was half a chocolate cake. These are neighbors we know really well so we're all likely to bring whatever we have in our kitchens that no one else is eating if we don't feel like cooking. The lady didn't come who often brings crisp apple slices and caramel sauce dip but we had enough sweets anyway.
-
redhead - I feel your pain - good for you that you went to the urgent care when you did! Hoping you are on the mend - this is pretty miserable.
bedo - loved your brussel sprout story and your horse story, those horses are easy to fall in love with - DD leased a horse when she was in high school, taught it to bow down and put its forehead on the ground. This was a giant horse, very smart and gentle, but she trained it to do this by crawling underneath it with carrots - the stuff of maternal nightmares! She has always been an animal trainer I guess - started by training her guinea pigs to jump over stacks of books.
-
Christmas Day at my niece's involved 3 horses and 6 dogs - mostly Great Dane size. She eventually wants to run a rescue farm for horses destined for the boneyard.
-
minus - sounds like a fun day - and what a generous aspiration for your niece - I hope she can do it!
-
Me too Special but she's definitely always been a girl w/a plan. She and her DH are both cops and she's 8.5 months pregnant w/the first child!!! But the baby "won't change their lifestyle or plans at all" (ha ha)
-
I'm joining the miserable cold versus milder flu with Redhead and Special. I started feeling puny Friday afternoon but have had a dizzy head most of the week. No fever but certainly plenty of chest/nasal congestion and zero appetite for most stuff. I never realized how many cooking shows and food commercials are on. But I did watch the Great British Baking Show on PBS tonight. Taking 1/2 of a DayQuil liquid dose during the day and 1/2 of the night time dose at night. My stomach just cannot handle 2 caps.
The enchiladas were OK but mushy tortillas. I just cannot seem to get over that problem. Pace made an enchilada sauce for a while. I have their recipe somewhere, should be OK with different sauce. The homemade sauce was OK, DH thought not spicy enough. The overnight croissant French toast was great. Soaked up the 8 eggs mix and baked wonderfully well.
So needless to say we've been existing on soup and oddly enough baked potatoes. I cannot smell anything. Made some double bergamot Earl Grey tea tonight and could not smell a bit of it. Found 2 indiv. cups of applesauce and ate those. Just odd stuff. DH seems to have a bit of allergy only. For that I am very grateful.
-
luv - sorry you are joining the club of sickies, hope you feel better soon! I can't smell or taste anything either, although I keep tasting things to see if that is still the case, lol! I have tinnitus leftover from chemo, but man are my ears hissing and ringing with this congestion! Tea sounds good - I may go make some right now. I will report later on if I could taste or smell it.
minus - the "won't change plans/lifestyle" line makes me laugh too!
-
If I recall correctly.... and I think I might... HAPPY BIRTHDAY BEDO!
All prepped for my PET scan. And now I just wait until it is time to leave. I don't wake at 4am regularly. The cats are not thrilled that I am meandering about during their playtime. It is very dark and cold at this time of the morning. Heat doesn't come on for several more hours after all.
We managed to eat all the Christmas leftovers. Delicious to be sure, but a lot of the same thing night after night.
*susan*
-
Best of luck with your scan Susan!
-
Ditto on the good luck with the scan, Susan.
And healing wishes for all carrying those viruses around.
DH seems to be starting with a similar cold. When we woke up he was coughing up a storm.....I think some spicy kale soup might loosen things up for him.
Love your horse affair Bedo!
