So...whats for dinner?

Oh yea ? what works for the bumbs on your scalp? They really hurt? Not infected yet.....
-
Gosh - I wish there was dinner tonight. Well, there is sort of. Prep for colonoscopy tomorrow. Yummy clear liquids. Late getting one at age 60. No reason not to; deductible all met and know should have done it sooner. Wish me joy around 11 am tomorrow Texas time. DH will get his in January; no deductible met this year.
-
Dinner tonight is grilled lamb chops and baked sweet potatoes. Maybe a slaw. This was supposed to be dinner on Saturday night but I had forgotten I was supposed to go to a women's dinner at the nearby Methodist Church! Fortunately, my neighbor called and told me she was picking me up in 30 minutes. No shower, no hair wash. But I went and had a good time.
I don't know what the reason is, but I have Christmas spirit this year. I've put up a tree and some decorations. I bought beautiful poinsettias. I've been buying little Santa gifts for everyone who is coming for the Christmas family dinner at our house. I've even bought and addressed Christmas cards! What happened to the Scrooge of the last three years? This is definitely more fun.
-
(((Christine))) ouch, ouch, ouch! My DH has had a couple of kidney stones. At 6'3" and 280 back then, I didn't know he could curl up in a ball and fit in an ER waiting room chair! They are horribly painful.
We had a simple supper of pan-broiled boneless pork chops, cole slaw and garlicky green beans left over from Saturday night's Chinese food.
Carole - I love lamb chops and rack of lamb. For some strange reason, I've never tried to cook it, but I often order it out. Going to have to give it a shot!
-
Carry- Welcome back! Sounds like you had a great time I always wanted to see the Rockettes!
Nancy-Sorry DH has Diabetes. It's hard to stick to something when the other one doesn't so hopefully this will get you both on the right track.
Lee- I put my glass casserole dishes in the freezer all the time, never had a problem so far.
Luvmygoats- Good luck with tomorrows colonoscopy I hear the prep is the worst of it.
Carol- I didn't have the Christmas spirt until we went out Saturday to a place with lights, carolers and it got me in the spirit again.
Itmyguy- Sorry no help on the bumps but hope it gets better!
Michelle- The zucchini sounds good cooked that way. Glad your starting to feel better.
Pork Chops and brussel sprouts for dinner- and popcorn later!
-
Lee, freeze it in glass pan, store it in the aluminium, and just put it back in glass to cook. That way you don't have to keep all your dishes in freezer.
Luvmygoats, I have to do that. Yet, put it off. Just couldn't face more docs.
Carrie, glad you had fun. Welcome back.
Nancy, hope your DH gets it under control. My BG soared on steroids, over 400, and is not dropping fast emough for me. I lost twenty pounds during chemo, and it didn't help. My a1c is pretty good, at 6.5, but my fasting number are 130 or even higher. They were about 110 before. I just saw my PCP last week, he wants another a1c in a couple of weeks. After my potassium levels out and my magnesium too. Why is it always so hard. Um, I suppose pumpkin pie isn't exactly great for me, but it sure was good! LOL. However, when I go to Starbucks, I treat myself to, ready for.it, a Trenta, that's extra large, um, unsweetened black tea! LOL I love those! I like unsweetened green tea too. I wasn't a very good southerner when I lived in Virginia! LOL no sweet tea for me. Yuck! LOL. -
I've had two colonoscopies and the prep was definitely the unpleasant part of the procedure. Several women on another thread had their procedures without sedation.
The lamb chops were delicious last night. DH grilled them perfectly. It's definitely grilling weather here, and I'm not too happy about it. Our cool winter weather is gone and our high temps are in the 70's and up to 80 for the next seven days.
I guess we're in for 8 months of reports on Kate's pregnancy!
Dinner tonight will be roasted turnips and carrots and a meat, undecided. Maybe chicken.
-
Moon, even though I love all things southern, sweet tea is not one of them. I have to remember to order "unsweet" when I'm in the south (which is often).
Tonights dinner is senate bean soup using the leftover hambone. I think I'll make some cornbread sticks so DH and I can each have one and the rest will go into the freezer for the next batch of dressing. -
Carrie - forgot to mention your trip to NYC. So glad you had a great time! We made that trip about 20 years ago when we lived in CT and saw the Rockettes. We took my mom, too, and had a wonderful day. We went on the train which made it an easy trip. I don't remember where we ate, so I guess it wasn't memorable...lol. May have been a popular deli.
-
Yikes Carole! I only had one friend that had hers without sedation and it was a traumatic experience for her. I certainly wouldn't do it. I promised my gastro doc I'd do one next year even though it's been less than 5 years (cancer changes everything dontcha know :-(
Hope everyone passes their upcoming tests! -
Michelle we took the train also, took about the same as driving 5 1/2 hours, but we brought some wine and chilled and talked girl talk the whole way. You forget how many nationalities are in the city and the diverse population. We went to a bar to sing karoeke and the people singing were like professional braodway singers!! My daughter and her girlfriend sang anyways and laughed like crazy. Then we tried another local bar, and couldnt figure out what was different, except that the music was American songs but in a different language...we were playing "guess that tune" ha ha I finally found some guy that spoke English and he told me that they were Slovakian....he thought I was British...LOL WTH? But they sure know how to party...we danced with them till 4 in the morning.
It is 68 degrees here today, I am going to grill a steak, with baked potato and salad. Tomorrow we have tickets to see trans siberian orchestra with dinner included in the pkg at an italian restaurant.
-
Carrie - 4 in the morning...you go girl!!! Sounds like a really fun time! We were robbed of a nice day today - fog descended upon us and it was dark all day. Supposedly, it got to 50 but it never felt like it.
Colonoscopy - our doctors didn't push us to have them, there is some risk. We used the fecal occult tests and the plan is to do a colonoscopy if there is anything suspicious in the results. With the PETs and CTs I've had, I am quite sure I'll never have one.
-
No more colonoscopies for me! Or mammograms. I see no reason for tests looking for trouble. I have enough already!
Last night we went to Potato Freak. I kid you not, that is the name of this place. We both ordered Rostis, a Swiss potato dish. My goodness they were huge! I ate 1/4 of mine while husband ate 1/4 of mine and 1/2 of his. So tonight's dinner will be some of those leftovers reheated in the oven, and a porkchop with mustard sauce. I think we have some broccoli in there which I will steam.
My new medication makes me want to vomit, so I might also make a bit of butternut squash soup in case I can't stomach the other stuff.

Hello all, just to mention, my MIL passed this morning quietly in her sleep. I guess she just wanted to go when no one was there. I thought she was holding out til Xmas. But now she can get all the hugs she wants, she is in a good place. !
-
Oh Moon, so sorry. Thinking of you and your family. (((hugs)))
-
Monica,
I am sorry to hear this sad news. Such a gift for all of you that she passed quietly. May your memories bring you and your family some comfort.
*susan*
-
My sympathies, Monica. I wish that fond memories sustain you and your family.
-
Moonflower, I am glad she passed peacefully. She was lucky to have you as a daughter
ltmguy There are medications that your doc can give you for nausea or lack of appetite, can you ask her/him? I hope you feel hungry soon
uvmygoats Sorry about the prep! I will have to do that soon. Enjoy the versed! Lol tonight is the worst part
Debbie, I was sad to hear about your Dad. I hope that you draw strength from your family and friends. I hope the best for your husband too. Hang in there
Michelle I'm glad that you're feeling better.
I was to have a day off tomorrow but found out at 3:00pm that it was not to be.
Went to Onc today. Referred me to a liver doctor.
Hoping that all is well so that I can keep hiking (major shin splints today) playing violin ( I stink) reading books, eating and seeing friends when I insist on another day off.
It's been hard to keep up, but I think of you all every day. Even those that I missed
-
I also have had 2 colonoscopies. The first one they found a polyp, I have a long and twisty colon so the hose was not long enough to reach the cecum so I had to go back and have xrays with a barium enema with air contrast to check way down into the cecum. So if they find a polyp you have to go back every 5 years. The last one was almost a year ago and because of my long and twisty colon the doctor had me start two days of just liquid, clear broth, and jello except red and then I had the prep called half lightly, it was a lot easier that drinking that gallon of sea water, made me sooooo sick.
-
Moonflower, sorry for your loss, but I do understand you saying she is in a good place. My Dad's QOL was not good for a long time, now he is with my Mom. She passed away at the young age of 64 in 1996 of BC.
My brother made me laugh a little at the ceremony for my Dad, he said to me, "Deb, can you hear that?" I said, "Hear what?" Mom is saying to Dad, "What the hell took you so long Bob, I have been waiting for over 16 years for you!" I chuckled at that cuz my Mom was a bit of a nagger and I proudly take after her, DH will attest to that, LOL.
-
Monica - I'm so sorry for your DH's and your loss.
Colonoscopy fine. On 10 year plan now. Wanted to eat everything in the house this afternoon but used restraint. Took a long nap instead. Propofol was the best. DH and I actually did a little bit of shopping after. MO appt next week. Labs but don't expect any major changes.
-
I have never had a colonoscopy unless you count the one about 25 years ago in my dr. office, I mentioned some problems and he said well, lets take a look! So he took this long thing a ma jig and tried to see what was going on, (trying not to get to explicit here) ha! It was so painful and I screamed for him to stop, he said it was his first time doing that and apologised. He also said it was twisted and couldn't fiqure out why! I left there crying and so upset, back then you didn't hear to much about those procedures and had no idea what i was getting into. Ughh!
Joyce- Hope your EGD goes well and find nothing serious going on!
Moon- Ahh so sorry! Any time is hard but the holidays must make it that much harder! (((Hugs)))
Bedo- Thanks! I hope nothing serious going on with your liver! Good to see you posting again!
Deb- I got a chuckle out of your post. Im sure things are hard for you and Michelle during the hoilidays too. Sending hugs and prayers!
Been busy making choc chop cookes and pochettes to send to my Grand-daughter she said she missed my cookies. So much for my diet I ate too many tonight! Made a crown roast with carrots and yams. Really good!
-
Debbie MMMM on the cookies...have not had a cookie in the house in a long time. Will do some Christmas ones when my daughter comes home, if I do them early they will be gone by the time she gets here.
Moon so sorry for your loss. So glad she went peacefully...thats all we can all hope for.
Deb funny story
Our steak last night was horrible...so tough. I have got to find a better place to buy meats other than the grocery store...so much money wasted.
-
Carrie, I buy all my meat at Costco. I've been more than pleased (and their steaks are outstanding). It's the main reason I joined. The one where I shop even has prime cuts.
Bedo, did I miss something? Are you ok? -
Nancy - Bedo said her doc is sending her to a liver doc...(((Bedo))) hope it's nothing serious.
-
Bedo, best of luck to you for a good result at the specialist appt.
Moon, condolences to you and your family for the loss of your MIL.
Just spent two days at the local hospital to be evaluated for cardiac symptoms (I was not convinced that was the right plan but none of my docs would give me an office appt, saying I had to go to the ER). And of course I was admitted...this has happened before with the results of the chest symptoms being nothing but muscular/skeletal issues related to my arthritis. This time, tho, lots of dizziness and nausea. My heart appears to be fine....symptoms seem to be related to the "optimal" dose of Gabapentin I had just reached in my constant quest for some sleep while on this Tamoxifen. So I am going to titrate off that new one.....tho still need to talk with MO.
Just now I heard on the news that the new recommendation for Tamoxifen duration is going to be TEN years. Great! (she says with utmost sarcasm!)
I get a colonoscopy every five years since I was so lucky as to need polyps removed the first time. I'm having "ten year colonoscopy scheduling envy" for those of you who had clear colons! And yes, the prep is actually the worst part. What I have enjoyed, however is knowing that after being totally emptied out, I can enjoy a really nice dinner that next evening....with no worry about calorie counting. Not sure I could ever undergo the procedure without sedation, however. Deb, serious ouch!
Michelle, what a terrible thing to be curled up in an ER chair trying waiting to be treated for kidney stones. Yikes! I hear it is so much worse for men to pass those...and not just because we are the stronger sex!
Have a good day everyone. Need to get back to normal here, and get something done at the tender hour of 1PM . I sure can waste time when it is available! Not sure how I ever worked ten hours a day for so long. -
(((Lacey))) Hospital for two days - yikes, glad you figured out what was causing the trouble! I haven't had any problems taking Temazepam (Restoril) for sleep. Maybe you can give that a try?
Yes, he was in extreme pain and couldn't pass it. It took two sessions of lithotripsy to smash it so he could pass it.
-
Michelle, be glad the lithtripsy worked. My hubby had a HUGE stone (almost an inch in diameter) and they tried lithotripsy - it wasn't even fazed. The had to go in through his back, cut it in pieces with laser (so that it would fit between his ribs) and take it out that way. It was a long slow recovery.
-
Michelle, glad the litho worked. That's probably the closest thing to labor pains and birth men get!
Lacey, glad they found it wasn't heart related.
Bedo, hope you get good news from the liver doc.
To all much love. -
