    Carrie, so sorry your stomach is jumpy, I know that feeling too well. Long history of stomach issues. I'm long past menopause and letrozole is my poison. I've gone the ambien route, and I like it well enough but don't want to take it as often as I need it. My doc just prescribed trazadone which did nothing but keep me awake. The hot flashes no longer keep me awake thanks to effexor.



    Michelle, never heard of that one, I'll check it out, thanks. Hope you're experiencing the worst SE you're going to have.



    Tazzy, that chicken sounds yummy.



    Guests for dinner tonight. Menu is bbq'd ribs with a pineapple/lime/soy sauce glaze, a new potato crockpot recipe with bacon onions and cheese, chopped salad and French apple cake for dessert.

    I'm on arimidex (generic), not tamoxifen.  I take 75 mg Effexor generic and it helps quite a bit with the temperature fluctuation.  I get "warm flushes," but not hot flashes.  However, my body temp. runs warm.  Temp. in the 60's feels great to me and other women will be wearing sweaters.  I take the arimidex at night and also take a benedryl knockoff that I buy at Sam's Club.  I sleep very well.  Some nights I'm up a couple of times going to the bathroom but get back in bed and go right to sleep.  Nothing is more miserable than insomnia.

    Michelle, it's so good to read your posts.  Sure hope those rads are doing a lot of damage to the mets.

    Here's the WW Pork Piccata recipe that a couple of people were interested in.

    In a small bowl, combine 3 T. all-purpose flour, 1/2 tsp. salt and 1/4 tsp black pepper.  Cut 1 lb. lean pork tenderloin into 16 pieces.  Flour both sides of pork medallions, shaking off excess. 

    Heat 2 tsp. olive oil (I used 1 T.) in large skillet over med.-high heat.  Cook pork medallions about 1 1/2 min. on both sides until golden brown.  Set aside on serving plate and cover to keep warm.

    In a cup, whisk together 3/4 cup reduced-sodium chicken broth, 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice,  2 tsp. cornstarch, 1/4 tsp. salt and 1/8 tsp black pepper.  Pour into same skillet and whisk to combine with drippings.  Simmer until slightly thickened.  Remove skillet from heat.  Stir in 2 tsp. salted butter until melted.  (I used 1 T. butter)  Stir in 1 T. capers, drained.  (I rinsed the capers)  Spoon sauce over pork.

    I made this dish about an hour ahead of time.  I returned the pork medallions to the skillet, spooned sauce over them and covered the skillet with a lid.  When dh and I had finished our drinks and were ready to eat, I warmed up the medallions and sauce. 

    Recipe Note:  the sauce is lemony.

    I'm not cooking tonight!  Yay!  DH and I are going to a neighbor's house to play a couple of games of pool.  Then the four of us are going to a nice restaurant for dinner.  I checked out the menu last night on my computer and have my choices narrowed down to three selections in the seafood section of the menu.

    Tazzy - I thought it was funny to see you say that you like breakfast for dinner.  I don't even like breakfast for breakfast, and would rather have warmed over dinner (like stew or soup) for breakfast...

    Nance - I only use tender kohlrabi, and then I peel, slice fine (I use a mandolin) and add them to salad.  I don't really like them cooked.

    I have to work late - again - so hubby is taking me out for Thai food on the way home!!!  I LOVE Thai.

    Job #3, the one with US Department of Health and Human Services, has just come to the forefront. I've been put on deployment alert. So, until further notice, I have to keep my gear with me so I can leave within 2 hours of being called.



    I don't know if I'll be going anywhere, but if I do, my food will likely be MREs or maybe Power Bars.

    Gardengumby  funny to hear you say that about breakfast.  I worked the night shift for 10 years so breakfast for me was leftover dinner when I came home home from work at 7am then off to bed and when I got up at about 1 or2 in the afternoon I would have a bowl of  cereal. The kids and I just learned to eat whatever/whenever. My sons favorite was french toast for dinner.

    No clue for dinner, might just make some pasta. I didn't get my results today, hopefully Monday. I was so disappointed and now more anxious than ever. My youngest son punched me right in the boob that had the biopsy done on Thursday. He has Autism and just got rowdy and didn't mean to, it's not like domestic violence or anything. It hurt though and after ice and 4 tylenol it was still hurting so I had to call the doc and beg for something stronger. Much better now : ) . I hope you all have a nice weekend.

    carberry - I used to work nightshift, too - though to be honest my aversion to breakfast food came long before that.  My mom made gawdawful breakfasts and I hate eggs.

    gardengumby: that makes sense if you had awful brekkies as a kid.  funny but I was not an egg lover until I came to Canada - dunno what there was about them in England, but urgh !

    Stuffed chicken was delish.

    neomom: happy to hear you are feeling better now - ouch !

    Eric, what is this you're on call for? Whatever it is, I hope you don't get called.



    I could eat breakfast any time. Then again, I can also eat leftover pizza for breakfast. Good grief, I guess I can just eat anything.



    Was just DD and me for dinner last night, so I treated her to Bertucci's. had the endless soup and salad. Shrimp and corn chowder, it was yummy. Made her some pills bury cinnamon buns for breakfast. They are good. Ground some coffe beans and the coffee was delish.



    Michelle, I am guessing you get the weekend off from rads. In any case, take it easy and enjoy the weekend. Thinking about you. Take care.

    Yes, this weekend is off but next saturday is a treatment day.  that means I will finish on Monday before thanksgiving.  So hopefully the fatigue will be better by then and I will be able to go to Las Vegas on the Friday after thanksgiving.  We went out for pizza and salad last night.  I was tired afterwards, but it was nice to do something normal with my family.  Of course, I couldn't sleep for a while...damn steroids!

    Michelle, I hope you rest up this weekend. 

    My dinner out last night was very good.  Big luscious Louisiana shrimp in lemon garlic butter sauce.  Broiled tomatoes.  Salad greens with a yummy blue cheese dressing.  All the entrees at this restaurant are good.  The service is excellent.  And the bill makes you wince!  That's why we don't eat dinner out often.  Coming from my thrifty background, I don't like paying the same amt. for a meal that I would pay for a cart full of groceries! 

    I don't know what dinner will be tonight.  Maybe fish. 

    Kohlrabi was one of the veggies we saw at farmers' markets up in MN this summer.  I bought some and tried it.  The recommendation was to peel and slice thin and eat it raw with lemon juice and olive oil.  Or to eat it as a snack with a dip.  It tastes very good raw.  I didn't try cooking it.

    Has anyone tried Turkish eggplant?

    Michelle, Back when I had radiation, it wiped me out completely. Far worse than chemo. Hope you have a comfy chair and a warm blanket so you can rest and be warm.

    We are on the Cape now. Two nights ago we made the Striper Bass that my friend had cooked, served with a salsa verde, avocado and pickled red onions. This recipe was a total winner. So delicious! Last night we went to the Elk's Friday fish fry. Eh. The fish was good but whoever was manning the fryer wasn't a master. The price was right at $8 per plate of fish and chips, and of course, the proceeds benefit their children programs.

    I have a leg of lamb marinating in the fridge. A mixture of mustard, wine, olive oil, TONS of garlic, and a bunch of herbs. We will roast this later with a bunch of root vegetables that are also rubbed with herbs. I have high hopes for this.

    Susan - I have a lazy girl recliner (it's smaller than my DH's lazy boy) and an assortment of blankies and afgans to keep me cozy.  My DH is keeping close tabs on me and asking me what I'm doing every time I try to get up.  He runs a tight ship...lol

    And I can look outside from my chair and watch the ducks and geese on the lake.  We have a nice assortment of waterfowl including cute little hooded mergansers.

    It's an Indian summer day here and instead of doing something productive (like figure out what's for dinner), I'm looking out the window watching my husband pull up the garden. Didn't sleep well so I really feel the need for a nap. The warm sun coming in on me isn't helping. With all this talk about piccata, I really think that's what dinner is going to be.



    Eric, really hope you're not called up. Carole, I have eaten kohlrabI raw, but it reminds me very much of raw broccoli, which I don't like as much as slightly cooked. The lemon juice and olive oil sounds good though.

    Susan, your lamb sounds like it's going to be a winner. I'm curious as to how much garlic you use in a week. I use nearly a whole head a week, often more when I'm roasting it. I believe you've got me beat :-)

    Nancy, I think I, too, like broccoli better blanched than raw.  Also cauliflower.  As an experiment, I blanched both in preparation for using them in a chopped salad.  Previously I'd used the raw veggies.  The slightly cooked version is very good. 

    We are having fish tonight.  Walleye fillets out of the freezer, brought home from ND.  Also "smothered" okra and tomatoes with garlic and a dash of hot pepper flakes, s & p.  I cooked it earlier.   And a salad of some kind.  Possibly sliced cucumbers w/onions for dh and without onions for me.

    Tomorrow we're going to a funeral.  My cousin Peggy, 3 years younger than I, died.  Very sad case.  She had rheumatoid arthritis and other illnesses and lived in pain for quite a few years. 

    Nice and quiet in the house with dh out playing golf.  I'm doing laundry and am about to watch my recorded Saturday PBS cooking shows.

    My DH picked up food from the Tuscan Kitchen for supper.  We had chicken parm, ziti with pomodoro sauce and ciabbatta bread with dipping oil.  We will have a little dutch apple pie later.  Yummy!

    If you are going to have fatigue from radiation, it sounds as though you have the best possible environment. A laz-y-person with a warm blanket, looking at birds? It doesn't get much better than that.

    The lamb here on the Cape smells great. I am also roasting some carrots, potatoes, and the 'famous' Eastham turnip. We have enjoyed some cheese while watching some college football game. Other people in the room are making 'go get 'em" kind of noises.

    Michelle, your take out dinner sounds so good! Your rest mode sounds ideal....love that you have a nature scene right outside your window. Happy for you having those experiences!



    Carole, Ming Tsai (sp?) always recommends exactly what you did to your broccoli when using it for dipping or in salads. I must try that. It certainly makes the veggies more colorful!



    Susan, that lamb sounds wonderful.....please give a full accounting of your dinner....minus the football cheers...tho I am happy that ND is still undefeated. :)



    Went to a neighbor's election celebration party tonight. This couple are both wonderful cooks (and I envy their spacious chef friendly kitchen!)and had lots of nice appetizers (I contributed feta/spinach stuffed mushrooms) and then seafood gumbo and chicken chili with basmati rice for a very large crowd. Delish!

    Susan  We were also making some of those "go get em" noises! Alabama certainly did not bring their A game yesterday.  there is nothing better than being curled up on the couch with my DH watching football.  Made a mexican tortilla soup that he loved,  I did not eat, as putting food in my stomach is like making the volcano erupt.  WTH?

    I made some instant pudding last night and that was my dinner.

    Supposed to be 70 here today Wahoo! Got a bunch of people showing up for the last boat ride of the season, in the canal, to one of our favorite restaurants for dinner, then pack up the boat for the winter.

    Carrie, are you having burning, nausea or both? Taxotere messed up my stomach (felt like I was drinking molten lava) so that I needed 8 weeks of rx nexium to get it back to normal. And this was 2 months after I finished chemo. It's a great way to lose weight, but not much fun :-(

    It does seem like you've been suffering with this stomach distress for too long, and should have it checked out. Meanwhile, have a great day on the boat! :)

    Beautiful day here too! Had emeril's jambalaya recipe, but used quinoa instead of rice and just had chicken and shrimp in it, no sausage. Bam! We liked it, but we all like spicy.

    Good luck Eric.  My husband is an Erik. 

    I've put some pork spare ribs in the crockpot with a sweet and sour sauce. On the side some sliced fresh pineapple and white rice with cumin seeds and fresh cilantro. 

    My husband's friend comes over and they play guitar and sing in the garage and then we all eat dinner together.
