Big change of dinner plans--still doing the Caprese for my app; but first I saw canned clams on sale at CVS, and thought linguine alla vongole. Then I went to Whole Foods--and they had fresh Resurrection Bay sockeye salmon on sale for $13.99/lb. So, pan-seared sockeye and snap peas for my entree tonight. I automatically bought too much, thinking Gordy'd have it when he comes home from rehearsal...and then I remembered "home" is his new bachelor pad. So I think I will cut up & freeze some fillets and bag some snap peas for him for the next time he comes over (or I can visit him). So weird to be an empty nester--just came across a photo of my BFF & I on the beach, very pregnant with our sons (her son was the groom at last week's wedding, Gordy was his best man). Time flies like a jet plane. (Fruit flies like a banana).

I see there’s clearly a theme lately. Tonight DH has Lasagna House, he had lasagna and I had the Italian combo (lasagna, cheese ravioli and fettuccine alfredo), both with salad and garlic bread . The food was good and reasonably priced but the portions are huge, too big really. Anyway, I’ve got tomorrow’s lunch now.

Celia - that's on my list for later this week. I bought the fresh mushrooms so I'm ready.

Lunch was the last of the potato salad. Yum Yum. Tonight after water aerobics was leftover Calabasitas - even better than the first day, and leftover lentils - also even better than the first day. I have one more serving left of each. Tomorrow I'll tackle the deviled eggs and the last two corns on the cob. And probably a butter lettuce salad.

DH did a great job cooking the ribeye on the grill last night. Side was a repeat of veggie sautee (yellow squash, zucchini, onion) with the addition of corn cut off the cob. Also a tossed salad.

No thought yet on tonight's dinner.

Salmon was magnificent last night—gonna portion & freeze the rest, and start defrosting skirt or flatiron steak to grill tomorrow.

Meanwhile, I am a bit of a mess. My cold is waning—yielding to a massive allergy attack. I normally go months w/o touching my inhaler, but have had to use it 2-3x/day this week. Chest hurts from coughing, upper back from the sling, R radius from both cracks at either end and the brace I must wear when actively using the arm, and now I am chain-sneezing and hanging on the edge of a sneeze the rest of the time. Local allergy count say only the molds are high (weeds & grasses low), but out in my alley I see ragweed everywhere—at least a month early. I am amazed how one can feel so rotten w/o a fever

Maybe when I see my primary on Thurs for my pre-op clearance I can ask him about switching nasal steroids (going back to Rx-only Nasonex, in case I've built up a tolerance to Nasacort) and restarting allergy shots after 34 years. (I'm afraid to see an allergist, though—who will likely tell me to give away my cats. Not gonna happen—I'm far more symptomatic outdoors).

I had a lunch only Bedo could appreciate... 1-1/2 deviled eggs, 1/2 of a Ruby grapefruit and 1/2 cup of dry roasted peanuts.

Still not hungry at 5:30pm so I'll probably just have a gin & tonic now & popcorn later.

I had sclerotherapy on both legs today, so I am laying down and elevating for 24 hrs. - then compression starting tomorrow for a couple of weeks, so I dispatched DH to bring patty melts and sweet potato fries home with him - yay!

Made that Caprese tonight with a (storebought) heirloom tomato, buffalo mozz., and homegrown basil from my deck. Basil-flavored EVOO and a tiny drizzle of true aged balsamico. (Yes, I licked the plate). Then linguine alla vongole: sauce made from chopped clams & juice, olive oil, garlic, flat prosecco and chopped parsley & oregano from my deck.

Sitting here waiting for my new allergy spray (developed a tolerance to Nasacort, two days after replenishing my supply) to kick in. Hanging on the edge of a sneeze, then explosively chain-sneezing, lather, rinse repeat. Thank you, ragweed, for showing up over a month early. (Not that the official pollen count will acknowledge that--it's taken every morning from a hospital rooftop 20 miles away in the western suburbs. We really do have our own microclimate here by the lake).

How was the sclerotherapy, SpecialK? Hope it helps!

Special K - I had to research sclerotherapy. As usual, the Mayo site is very informative & seems to have as much detail as I needed. The compression probably won't be too bad, but I can't imagine you staying out of the sun for a couple of weeks. Maybe your doc is not recommending that. Hopefully your DH will pamper you.

Chisandy - the sclero burns like a you know what while they are doing the injection, but is pretty much a non-event afterward. It has worked well for me, this is my third session. I had a number of diffuse superficial veins that looked more like bruises - big ones. Those are gone now and if I get a spray tan my legs look decent. That was my goal - I did three endovenous procedures to treat the underlying issue, so this is to fix the visual one Sorry to hear about your rageeed issues - I sympathize - I’m an allergic girl, pollen, adhesives, antibiotics, such a pain, right? Probably literally for you having this on top of the injuries. Ugh.

minus - my compression garment is actually a pair of tights - which is convenient since this was both legs. They are thick enough that sun can't get through - and when wearing them I usually wear athletic leggings so nobody can see them, lol! DH just had his third endovenous procedure 10 days ago and I got him a pair of tights too. Don't tell, lol! His co-workers would get a huge kick out of that! With more than 40 skin cancers now - have a new 3cm scar on my shoulder -I'm really never in the sun longer than it takes to walk to the car and back - especially in summer. The good news about sclero is that once out of the wraps and into compression tomorrow at noon, things will be pretty normal - so, DH is off the pampering hook. I set up the coffee for the morning so he will press the on button and bring me a cup - that's all I really need!

Healing vibes to SpecialK and Sandy.

Minus, the problem with deviled eggs is that they taste good and I can eat so many of them. I admire you for limiting your intake to 1 1/2 egg halves.

We had a wingdinger of a storm early this morning. Now the sun is peeking out. Forecast is for 80's today and humidity.

Last night's dinner was "cheddar" brats. Bits of cheddar cheese in the meat mixture. I steamed them in a skillet and then let them brown. Side was a bean dish left over from Mary and Lyman's wedding. And a tossed salad. I cooked three brats, one for me and two for dh.

Will have to check the freezer for tonight's meat course. Probably chicken. Possibly salsa chicken. I really like the combo of black beans and salsa.

We had a real gullywasher this morning. From 9am to 12pm we had almost 5 inches in 3 hours. It was like a fire hose. I couldn't see across the street. It continued raining until 3pm, but just another inch.

Breakfast was dark chocolate covered pretzels from Trader Joes. Dunch will be more deviled eggs and likely leftovers. I'm going to try a recipe that adds sauteed spinach to cooked lentils.

Benedict this a.m.--low-carb toast instead of English muffin--poached instead of fried the egg, and I think I'll go back to frying. Used Serrano ham instead of Canadian bacon, and heirloom tomato slices. Nuked the remaining Bearnaise sauce. Just now had ricotta with a chopped fresh apricot and half slice of pineapple on low-carb toast. Bob's coming home soon--if it doesn't storm, I'll grill a grass-fed skirt steak and make fajitas. Dessert will be mixed berries, maybe more apricot & pineapple.

Hi, all. Sending more healing thoughts out to Special and Sandy.

We're having a quiet 4th at home. Grilling pizzas with Trader Joe's dough and fresh mozerrella. I will make drop biscuit shortcakes with raspberries and peaches or nectarines.

Our fish CSA delivery tomorrow is salmon and Sandy's side of snap peas sounds lovely. Unless I have something else I need to use up already in the crisper....

Lately, dinner for Sharon and I has been a "sometimes" thing. Sharon goes to the gym in the morning and I go running outside (or walking if it's really hot), then we eat a lite breakfast around 10:30am. The next meal is around 3pm and we often are not hungry (and thus skip) dinner.dinner.

We both have exercise watches and our daily step count is well above 16,000....we're losing weight, although more slowly than we'd like!

I'm glad things are getting back to normal for you Special and it sounds like you are getting along OK as well, Chi (except for the summer cold).......

The dogs are busy defending the home against the evil forces of fireworks noise. Gypsy, the yellow lab, is laying on the couch, next to Sharon as she plays the banjo. Frankie, the black "Border Collie, lab mix" is laying at her feet. When a firecracker goes off in the neighborhood, they jump up and bark, then they lay down in the same positions...until the next time, which is a minute or so later.

Thanks all - doing well, changed out of bandaging to my compression tights, so I am comfy now. Legs look a little battered but it is short term, then improvement.

eric - our dog is currently wrapped in a blanket watching a really loud TV as close to me as possible. If he could fit in my shirt that is where he would be, lol!

We had burgers with chipotle Gouda, carmelized onions, and a combo of ranch dressing and BBQ sauce. Alsogarlic fries, broccoli salad, Mac salad, cold beer. Happy 4th to all!

Eric, I didn't know Sharon plays banjo! What style--bluegrass, frailing, plectrum, etc.?

Made fajitas tonight--marinated a skirt steak in chimichurri, and grilled it rare-to-mid-rare. Ate a romaine salad, flipped the steak. Sauteed pepper strips (red, yellow, & orange bell and poblano) and white onion indoors on the stove. Came time to flambé the veggies and--uh-oh--couldn't get the Aim & Flame to work. So I resorted to my old kitchen hack: I took a piece of raw linguine, lit it with the stove flame, turned off the flame, poured in the tequila and immediately lit it. Perfect! Sliced the steak and served it with tomatillo salsa (Frontera) on the side. Did grill some local asparagus too--seems when I do that I always sacrifice a couple of spears to the gods of the grill grates!!!

Minus, DH and I are in far west Texas until Sunday and I love the weather out here, not only am I dry but I got a little chilly last night.

We’re using a single burner camp stove so dinners are uncomplicated. Last night we had burgers and tonight will be pan fried pork chops and Brussels sprouts.

Eric, I salute Sharon--bluegrass fingerpicking is challenging!

Breakfast was some tuna salad on the end piece of a loaf of low-carb bread; dunch was avocado toast (spicy guac on said bread) with a fried egg. Supper will be leftover fajitas.
