Hi Ladies, joining your group as late as I possibly can!! Can't believe its almost March, 9 weeeks from my last chemo, 5 weeks from my BMX. My first rads treatment was Feb 23, so 4 down, 29 to go!!! So far so good. I did have to delay starting tx since I couldn't get my arm over my head. It is still pretty darn sore under my lymph (removed) side even tho I keep exercising like a mad woman. I haven't done any "real" exercises, I am just too pooped all the time. That and my joints hurt.
I have been creaming it up, my doc suggested Natrabio's candula cream, but after listening to all you lovely ladies I may splurge on some miaderm. I am deathly afraid of burning since I am still very numb, don't think I would feel the start of a burn. Consequently, i find myself staring at my chest a lot to make sure it hasn't turned pink. I know its early, but I am just a tad worried!!
Tomorrow I get to see my cutie RO for my weekly appt, hopefully he will tell me all is going swimmingly!!
-
#25 of 25 today....I've got my diploma! But will be back there in a week for followup on my blistering and peeling areas.
cmblastic -- I have to say that my RO is also very cute, one of the few real-life doctors who makes the extremely attractive doctors on TV seem plausible.
-
#15 of 30 completed today! Halfway there! So far so good- no skin changes and normal energy levels. There is light at the end of this tunnel!
-
heathermcd - so sorry to hear about your issues with the blistering. Hope you find something to give you some relief soon. Sending prayers your way and {{{{Hugs}}}} too.
My rad tx are going well, I have completed 10 of 30 so I am 1/3 of the way. Miadrem cream and emu oil are doing wonders at keeping my skin in great shape. I use it from my neck to about midway to my belly button and making sure I do under my arms and down my sides as well. Wish there was something that would help the fatigue as much. I am so tired all the time and it seems to be getting worse.
Hope everyone has a restful evening. Amy Jo

AmyJo: Glad to hear you're doing well with Miaderm and emu oil.
Grannydukes: congrats on 2 weeks from rad graduation! I will miss your posts and thanks for my A from several days ago.
My skin is RED now. Aloe cools it off and calendula brings redness down. Finished my 26th session today, last of my whole breast ones and have 7 boosts left. Will have to transition to real life very soon. Scary thought. -
BrilandG--the A was wel deserved AND real life is wonderful...IT FEELS SOOOO GOOD.
see im not goin so fast.ha.
-
cmblastic and Eloise Thank goodness I am not the only one that thinks their docs are cute. I was beginning to think I was a pervert. My daughter kids me and says "that dr might want to consider an order of protection". libraylil

Not been adding anything for a while (I read every day though). I started my fifth week yesterday, today is # 22 out of 33 *(including boosts). Apart from a 6"x6" area of itching from the allergic reaction I had, above the radiation site which is now sore and ugly looking, I have been doing very well. I am no spring chicken so I am pleasantly surprised, even planning a week or two of vacation after this is all over, if I keep doing so well. Obviously, I am not holding my breath as I have other medical problems, but, I am positive.
Grannydukes, good luck we are all following behind you in getting past this monster!
-
grannydukes- sounds like you are doing great, congrats!
11 of 28 down today.

i keep sayin im leavin but i cant help lookin after you girls.keep up the good work.every day each and every one of you are getting closer to the finish line...huggggggggggggs K

Ack, I don't get on here often enough. I read every post as I have it delivered to my email. I will have # 3 today. So far so good except one of my markings wore off so they will have to redo it today. Hope they don't get mad at me. I didn't wash it with soap or anything but just tried to be really careful They had it covered with a round adhesive disk and it came off in bed last night. There should be a better way of marking the area. They didn't do "real" tattoos, just marked me with a marking pen. I hope they can find it without having to have the CT Scan all over again and all that stuff. Going bra less 24/7 now. Got to tell you, there is a younger male technician at my clinic that all the old women call "the cute one" and he was the one who worked with me the most yesterday. He is nice looking but somehow I can't get to excited about his "hands on" dealing with my breast. Nice to look at but wish I didn't have to even be there.

Juanita--GREAT to hear from you!
I had to giggle as you mention the "cute" guy. I have one of those too! He's a cutie and so nice...He's sees this everyday, so I'm sure nothing phases him, huh?
Number 9 done today. Dr took a look at my skin and says all looks good. I'm starting to get tanned...but other than that, nothing exciting...just applying the lotion 3x a day..more if I need it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, that all continues to go well...
Hope everyone is doing well!

Hello All!
I was just wondering what brand of aloe you use? I wasn't able to find one that didn't have parabens, and a lot of alcohol...so I'm using aloe that is a supplement for injestion. It's kind of stinky and doesn't take long to dry up. I just had 2/33 today, so I'm trying to prep for the worst. I've been using vit E oil at night on my scar because it just itches so bad lately. But I'm thinking oil is going to be bad. I have my appointments at 730am and shower just before but this morning I wasn't sure if the oil was washed off completely or if my scar was just shiney.
-
GirlFriday - I finished up almost 3 weeks ago but still visit. I live in WA but am also from ME. You have a Trader Joe's in Portland. If you can get to it, they have 99% pure Aloe which is very inexpensive - the bottle lasted throughout. As for using vit E oil - did your RO ok that? I know they are all different but mine said no oil because it increases burning though I hear others use emu oil. They also told us to stay away from Vit E and other antioxidants during rads. Wouldn't want you getting more burned but I never know why certain RO's have their opinions either.
-
raincitygirl: We just got the Trader Joe's!...I'l check it out. I went to Whole Foods...never thought about Joe's and it's in the same part of town. The RO said to use vit E for the scar...That was before I started rads. She's not in the facility I'm getting the rads in though....I'll email her and ask. I think the rads doc that is at the facility has no personality. His nurse is awesome. I'm kind of bummed that the schedule that was available was not in the same facility as my RO. She's been incredible. Much better than my Med Onc! Do you remember the brand name of the Aloe?
-
Girl Friday - It is actually Trader Joe's brand. You might call and ask if they have it to save a trip.
-
I got
Fruit Of The Earth Aloe Vera 100% Gel, Crystal Clear 24 oz (680 g)
on Amazon, it was the recommended brand from the RO and cheaper than walmart. That is all they told me to do 2x per day and said they will rx something if I have issues, so far none 8 rads so far
-
GirlFriday: I use Lily of the Desert 99% aloe Jelly. It contains organic aloe and no parabens. It's available at Whole Foods and Vitamin Shoppe.

I have completeted 11 of 30 and I am doing verywell except for the fatigue. Skin is doing great, no burning or redness, only a wierd sort of tenderness feeling around my implants. I use the Emu Oil in the evening. Calendula after my treatments (in the mid-morning) and mid-afternoon and the Miaderm after my shower and at bedtime. The Emu Oil soaks in so fast that i wonder why they call it an oil and a little of it goes a long way. The Calendula is cheaper than the Miaderm and woeks well, but the Miaderm feel the best and has a light pleasant smell that makes me feel better. The Miaderm is worth the extra expense, just wish I could afford enought to use it 4x-5x a day. I also use the Emu Oil on my arms and legs since they have very dry skin and it seems to work very well at keeping the skin looking and feeling soft and smooth.
The neuopathy that was giving me problems with my hands and arm is getting better now that I am taking Gabapentin and doing the arm exercises the physical therapist showed me to stretch the nerves a little each day. The night/day sweats are getting a little better or maybe I am just getting to the point I have accepted them as part of the process. I will be glad when the rads are over, March 28, and I can start taking my Vitamin E again.
My RO says no Vitamin E in any form until rads are finished. He told me that vitamin E would make the rads less effective. That was all I needed to hear to stop all the vitamin E I was taking and using, I was also using the Vitamin E skin oil on my scars and taking 1,000 IU of Vitamin E to help ease the night sweats. He told me exactly why the Vitamin E made the rads less effective, but I do not remember all of what he said. I will have to ask again if anyone wants to know.
Hope everyone has a restful evening, Amy Jo

Anyone have a patch of tiny blistrers appear on the radiateD /treated breast?
Teklya
-
Teklya-gosh i was just thinkin of you.did you call the DR? no one puts on this thread what happens after the tx.Please call and let us know.we care.hugggggggs K
-
Tekiya, I had some small blisters last week under my arms and on the top of my breast. The underarm ones have healed up a week later, the ones on the top popped but the skin in that area is still itchy and inflamed. When they first appeared the rad techs made my doctor come in and look at them before I got my next treatment, but he said they were fine to carry on with. The nurse told me to put a little antibiotic ointment on them.
-
Well I have finished 12 of 30 and I am doing really well. I am getting a little tan in the V area that is open to the sun when I wear a Vneck shirt in the summer. The RO says I am doing very well and that I need to talk to my MO to get a Rx to help with the night sweats that are keeping me from getting enought rest at night. I see my MO on the 4th so I will ask him then. I am getting more tired everyday and my bones ache, not sure if that is from the rads for not. I get labs on the 4th then my Aredia on the 11th and Radiation every week day from now to March 28th. This will be a "fun" month. At least by April it will all be over except the monthly Aredia treatments.
Hope everyone has a restful evening. Amy Jo

Number 10 done today....18 regulars left and then my boosts, which are still to be determined...
Feeling okay...doing my thing and just trying to keep moving....haven't noticed much fatigue yet, but I try to keep myself going no matter what...I'm sure I will have to slow down soon though...
Tekyla-hope the blisters disappear quickly...
Elaineg--thanks for the aloe vera tip...got some at Walmart and got the okay from my RO today!
amyjo49--great to hear you skin is holding up...mine is too...just getting tanned..but, it's still early for me...I'm hoping it stays about the same, but if it doesn't, I"m ready! Sorry that the neuropathy was giving you grief, but glad that it is getting better...sending you an extra big cyber hug too!
Man, I wish we had a Trader Joe's here...we are finally getting a Whole Foods though!
Hope you are all doing well!
