Hello everyone!

I am back online today for the first time since surgery last week.  I am happy to say that at this point everything looks good!  The surgery took about 8 hours (had an implant placed in the non cancer side, DIEP for the other) and was back in my room by around 5:30.  The following days were rough off and on for a combination of things.  One, the new SAT monitor they use to check the flap kept showing my SAT levels dropping---but from all their clinical exams it looked great.  So just to be sure they had to check it EVERY hour to see how it was doing.  Day 3 I started feeling quite nauseous and then proceed to have a whole day of vomiting.  They "think" it was the pain medicine, and took me off the pain pump and on to oral pain meds.  Still had some headaches, but in hindsite I really think that was caffeine withdraw.  No one warned me about that! :)  NO caffeine for a while after surgery!  I came home Friday, and with lots of love and care from my hubby, daughter and son, am feeling better each day.  It's just hard at night because you can't sleep on your sides, and my back gets really sore after a while, but shoot, if that's the worst se, I can take it!

I go up tomorrow for my one week follow up with my PS, so I'll post more later.

Love you all,

Sharon Laughing

So glad you're home and doing well! I was checking your FB page last night to see if your sweet daughter had posted anything new.  Your positive report is helping to ease my increasing nervousness about my own upcoming procedure.  :)

Hi Sharon, glad you are doing well! Having my exchange surgery in April and I am really looking forward to having everything done. I was nauseous after my bmx, from the pain meds, so I understand what you were going through.

    One love, Jackie

    Hi Sharon,

I'm glad the surgery is behind you. I too had the vomiting.  I think it was from the pain meds.  It also gave me terrible headaches.  I can't handle those narcotic drips in the pain pump. I hope you continue to improve each day .

Sharon - Well done!  Glad you did well and shared your experience with us.  That helps us that are considering DIEP us posted.

I am wondering how did the pain compare to a MRM?  I will be having a DIEP as some point, more than likely next year.  So am curious about the pain?

    HI Sharon,

Glad to hear that you're back home. I too had nausea and vomiting, but that stopped after they took me off the morphine and percoset.  Here's wishing you a speedy recovery at home.

Glad everything went well for you Sharon, and that you are back home.  I too hated that I couldn't sleep on my side, that took several weeks.   It helped having a pillow to put under my knees.   I vomited from some of the IV pain meds too, so that's not unusual.

    Hi and thanks girls!

Got 2 of the three drains out yesterday (wahoo) and should have the last one out soon.  Each day I do feel a little better, but definitely TIRED!  Kimber or any other ladies I'd be happy to answer honestly any questions you may have.  Compared to the MX, I'd say this has been easier in some ways, mostly because you know it's a "good" thing you are doing, not the scary initial surgery.  The "tummy tuck" portion though is really something.  Mega incision, and REALLY tight there.  Probably have more pain there than at the breast area.

    Love,

    Sharon
