Hi Sierra .. we just bought some talapia to have for dinner tomorrow. Sure hope someone posts some recipes as I don't know the best way to cook it.  DH wants to do it on the bbq.  I love sea bass and other white fish .. not too big on freshwater fish or salmon.

    hugs,

    Bren

If you do it on the bbq, do you use foil under it?  How do you keep it from sticking and falling apart?

I love Tilapia, although my Hawaiian cousin makes fun of me because she said it is a junk fish. I do know that it is rated low in mercury, which is a concern for me. I only eat small fish because they have less mercury.

Here is how I make it:

    pat it very dry.

season it with Old Bay, or one of the spicey fish condiments from Whole Foods.  I like a Carribean One from Whole Foods. You can also use those that are called "rubs". Make sure to check the ingredients carefully for additives, preservatives, msg, etc.

Get a pan hot, then add a blob of cold pressed coconut oil and bit of organic butter.

Saute fish about a minute on each side, then turn off the fire and put a lid on it and let it set for a few minutes. It will continue to cook and not be dry.  Since the fish is so thin, it really cooks in a flash.

Sprinkle a little parmesean on the top when serving (the real stuff, not the fake junk in those green cans).

Another flavor combo I like is capers, lemon and tarragon. Add these right at the end.

Notes: if the fish does not flake apart it is undercooked. If it is tough it is over cooked.

A hot pan to start keeps it from sticking.

My kids love tilapia when I use the following recipe:

place tilapia on a large square of foil with a small pat of butter under the fish

squeeze lime juice over the fish and season with a little salt/pepper, cover with cilantro and wrap foil lightly around fish.  Bake at 350 for 8-10 minutes.

    Hi Ladies:

    great recipes

    this is all I need

well, maybe Ill buy some again

I stopped because I heard it was junk as well

but salmon becomes pricey all the time

    organic anyway

    I bake my fish

    and loe lime

    sometimes I put

    the gree onions on it

    with butter, and some lime

    that is all

    and wrap in foil lightly

    All your ideas sound good

    so will try them soon

    Sierra :)

My Chinese doctor told me not to eat Tilapia fish anymore and anyother fish without scalps.  I used to eat Tilapia very often before my DCIS.  Right now I eat salmon, wild caught ones instead.  Salmon and oyster are the best, I am told.
