Laura, you will be fine. I had malignant melanoma, dx right after my bc dx. About a month after and had to delay chemo for bc because of it. It was early stage 1. And also not from the sun. It is some scary stuff. My only option was surgery, so I am thankful that you have a chemo option. If you want to chat privately let me know. Cancer is scary enough, but to be dx with two kinds of cancer is overwhelming. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
-
BUT, you should be pissed!!! Enough is enough. When I had that double dx, I felt like I was hit by a truck, and could barely breathe. The double edged sword was that it hit all at once and was overwhelming, but at least it was all dealt with at once. I really feel for you being out so far and having some other crap pop up!!! Sending you big love!!
-
LAURA!!! REALLY??!!! URGH! ENOUGH ALREADY! SENDING YOU TONS OF PRAYERS AND HUGS!!!!
-
Laura I am so sorry to hear your recent news & pray for a speedy recovery! To all my BC sisters & a former skin cancer patient myself - we all need annual skin cancer exams! My dermatologist provided me with literature showing a link between BC & skin cancer, so PLEASE get checked once a year. Even for something you can't see but only feel. In my case a very small scaley dot of skin on the side of my nose. No sooner than I would scratch it off, it would come back. Guess what....skin cancer! It was treated with liquid nitrogen & now I have perscription Retin-A cream! A good side effect - No more wrinkles! LOL! I've got to think of something positive with all this cancer BS we are always dealing with! BC the gift that keeps on giving!
-
Yes, that is a good point, that we all need to be checked out. I have heard/read that too, that there is a strong link between BC and skin cancer. They are from the same "pedigree" I read. Does anyone know exactly what that means?
-
Thank you dear women! You all keep me.... um.... SANE! Cindy.... thank you for offering your time in speaking with me... if I run into questions.... I sure will PM you, Thanks!!!!
YES.... good point Joyce.... BC and SKIN CANCER are linked... just was told this today. Thyroid too.... I started using Retin A two years back... LOVE the heck out of it..... wrinkles... Poof ! And.... no more will join the party....YAY!
Love you ladies..... more than you'll ever know !
Peace!
-
LAURA, SENDING PRAYERS SWEETIE! Good that you got checked out and they caught it in time. Hope the cream works for you and that you can finally put the C word behind you. Hugging you and sending healing vibes your way....((((((((LAURA))))))))))
Love,
Terri
-
Laura, WTF?! UGH! I am so frustrated, sad, pissed for you. Like once isn't enough? I am holding you in my thoughts and hoping for an easy tx and successful results.
XO,
Mona
PS: DH, DS and I leave for Mexico for 10 days tomorrow! Margaritas!!!!!
-
Laura sorry to hear the news. I know exactly how you feel. I get my PET Scan the 1st week in March to see if the chemo is working or not. My Dr. is concerned cause my tumor markers are elevated. So we will see. My prayers and thoughts are with you.
I am excited about Vegas. Had so much fun last year. My friend Tracy who has been an amazing supporter is coming this year! Yay!
Take care everyone! What is the count down?

Interesting - I also found out I had skin cancer in addition to the breast cancer that I was fighting. During chemo I noticed a spot above my lip that got red, then dry, then cracked and bled a little. It did this after each chemo cycle, figured the chemo was just drying me out. When chemo was done and it did not go away, I went into the derm office to get it checked. Biopsy came back positive for basil cell. Yikes. I had the MOHS procedure done in September and they got it all. My Aunt has used the Chemo cream twice for two different areas and it did it's thing both times. I know we here the word CHEMO and think OMG there goes the hair again, but according to my Aunt, this cream is nothing like that. Best of luck Laura!
This is my first trip with this group to Vegas, I guess I need a roomie....
-
LAURA..... 1 2 3 4 Kick that CANCER out the door!!! 5 6 7 8 let it know who we HATE!
Ditto what everyone else said & Power Prayers & tons of (((HUGS)))
It's great to read what you all are saying, I've been quite about my spot that I found back in December, it has all the signs that your all talking about, pointed it out to my primary Dr. & he said not to worry, I had enough that I was dealing with & a possiblity it could be a age spot, but it's just like what you all described.....So now a bit more concerned after what was pointed out about BC & skin cancer....gonna have to get it checked out again, since I'm done with the CRUD

Jazzy....didn't see Clare's name...is she going this year??? I know many will fight to have you as a roomie!!!
226 days till 3rd TA TA SISTERHOOD REUNION Welcome new sisters!!!!

Take care Chow XOXO Susie

-
stlcardsfan (i'm a huge Cub fan, can we really be friends?
) Interesting that you said the spots got worse after your chemo. I was dx with melanoma right after my bc dx and before chemo. The surgeon told me that it was so good that I found that when I did as the chemo can make the melanoma cells go haywire (his exact words!) So glad you got it taken care of!! You will LOVE this group and Las Vegas. Big fun!! Also I have a friend in the STL area who can use a BC friend. I will pm you!!LAURA, loving your rallying post!!!LOL
-
Laura -- I just saw your message about the skin cancer. I am still dealing with mine. I did go through the chemo cream treatment on my forehead. My results were pretty good; but, I was left with a few unresolved areas. I just had cryosurgery (liquid nitrogen) on those three sites today. Feel free to call me if you want more information about the chemo cream treatment.
-
Jancie -- You did not snore! I was asked to room with one of my dear friends from Phoenix, who I am driving up with. Please do not take offence. I hope to spend some time with you at the tables!
-
Ok Robin...:) Thanks!
CIndy.... I seem to be nothing more than the cheerleader.... but you know.... I am JUST FINE WITH THAT...... it has been this way for three years... and it works for me..............:)

There is some type of skin cancer that comes from a low immune system... I forgot the name... and I need to look it up.... but this is what they think I have.... kind of a ... chemo brought on cancer....
Drop the immune system... and skin cancer will start...??? I will post results when i get them. I feel ok with it all now.... you all make me feel like a million bucks.... you and Dh, Todd,.. he is amazing.... always will be..... he says.... I could kick the arse of anything in my way... LOL.... whatever.... he will always be my greatest fan....... THEN ALL OF YOU !
-
Hello! I'm a newbie and will need a roomate!! Thx!! Cannot wait!!
-
Bailey5 - as we would say on my stepmother board "fresh meat!" Welcome - and Tracey will put a roomie list together. I don't care who I room with as long as they are QUIET in the room. I need my morning sleep!
-
Hey, Laura, I'm glad to read that you're feeling better about your Dx and are calling all women to Vegas. I don't know if I can make it this year. I have the weekend available but financially, well, it depends on my ins. co. My out of pocket for surgery in Jan is turning into a monster. Insurance is rejecting claims related to to the surgery. Like ANESTHESIA! I certainly won't know by March 1. I may just have to wait till next year.

-
"The surgeon told me that it was so good that I found that when I did as the chemo can make the melanoma cells go haywire (his exact words!) "
That makes me very nervous... I've been concentrating on BC. My two melanomas were insitu (thank God). I will make an appointment with my "spots" Dr today.
Hope to figure out a way to make it to Vegas.
-
cydz - sure we can be friends. I used to live in the western suburbs of Chicago - and was a Cubs fan. Really routing for them the one year they got close - the whole Steve Bartmen incident. We moved to St Louis in 2004, and I work right by Busch Stadium. Kinda of hard not to get caught up in the whole Cardinal fever when I would see it so often on game day. When I signed up for the bc forum I had the hardest time coming up with a screen name, so I picked something easy to remember - hence St Louis Cards fan. Of course if they don't sign Pujols who knows who will get him next year. I heard the Cubbies were interested!
I still find it odd that I got skin cancer - I mean I do not worship the sun, always were SPF 20 to 30 on my face and arms if out for any extended time. In a way I am glad I saw it and got it taken care of. I am now on every 6 month checkups with dermatologist as well. Fun times!
-
I know! Melanoma has me on the every three month derm schedule! I am also from the western suburbs, I will pm you and we can chat!!
Adey, the whole melanoma thing is very unsettling, isn't it? I am just thankful it was stage 1 and get my follow-ups. At least with melanoma, for the most part, if you have it, you can see it. I know you can get it all over and I mean "all over" but one derm said a melanoma is like an ugly duckling, like nothing else on your body and easy to spot, pardon the pun!! Hope you make it to Las Vegas as well!!!
Laura!!!! You are so so much more than a cheerleader, I hope you truly know that! I would say that you are also such a leader and alot of the glue that keeps this group together! Look at the success of the TaTa FB page!! Head TaTa so to speak!!
-
Cindy..... you are a doll for saying something SO sweet!
Hey St. Louis..... I am a girl from KCMO ! If you ever come 3 hours south... we need to do lunch kid~
Ladies....
MERKEL CELL CARCINOMA is what the doctors THOUGHT I had.... a skin cancer caused by a lowered immune system... AKA.... BC CHEMO induced
WELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
I DO NOT NOT NOT HAVE THAT TYPE.... biopsy came in....
I have Squamous cell carcinoma .... so...... MUCH BETTER.... YEAH!
I did not wanna post that the Derm/onco thought for SURE the skin cancer was from my Chemo time in 08..... as I thought.... JUST IN CASE it was not... I did not wanna freak any new sister out.... and....... YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a treatable skin cancer.....
and I FEEL ALL MY HEART for those of you who heard the words melanoma... SO SO SORRY... I now kinda know the fear of waiting.
So.... I will treat with my chemo cream... and most likely not need surgery... SINCE I caught it while the two spots were small.
I am so glad I am stupidly vain about my aging face..... I notice ALL NEW MARKS... and " usually" rub a little more Retin A on that spot....LOL
Ladies.... thanks for caring...
-
Thats great news Laura.....I am happy to hear that mostly likely there will be no surgery!
We all love ya!
-
FIRNI.... I SOOOOOOOOOOOO get the whole MONEY thing... OMGOSH...... I paid catastrophic for THREE years... man... HARD stuff !
For me.... it is the one thing that I will do... no matter money. For me, cancer " about" destroyed me. DESTROYED. I had never even been online until BC. ( imagine right? LOL) so..... this site.... and this GROUP..... and the BIG GUY lovin' us in heaven..... saved me from death of a...um......... person. SO.... I find the money.
Anyway..... I need this trip.. it is vanity for me really... it REMINDS me..... that I AM NOT NOT NOT invincible.... and I am NOT the same woman..... but... NEITHER are all of you... all of you AMAZING people.
If you all can be THIS awesome..... that helps me see that... even looking the way I do now... and going through what we all have....... I just might still be awesome too.... JUST LIKE ALL OF YOU !
So......... this is why I find the cash....LOL....

ok.......... I will get off my soap box and get ready for work tomorrow.... I spent 1/2 the day at Chucky Cheese today with the grands and Tay( 20 yr old son)... WOW.... this G. ma is WIPED. I feel 75 .
WAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
