Creditors who laugh at your illness
Have to share and find out if anyone else has encountered this degrading experience... I received a call today from Citibank. I apparently paid the wrong amount (not enough, of course) and received a call being monitored. I apologized and explained that I recently finished chemotherapy and am experiencing cognitive challenges. My husband travels extensively, so I must do our bills and do not always get it right. I work full time, too. I hear the monitor snickering several times during our conversation. This has happened before. I have let this go in the past, but NO MORE. It is hard for someone recovering and who may overlook $1.50 in the payment from time to time. I try to be honest and explain, but to hear laughter and snickering is enough. I wish to reach out to find out it anyone else has encountered this behavior. It is disheartening. I called to speak to customer service only to be patronized and not let through. I will be patient and will write the BOD as well as my local and national legislators. This is wrong - and it does not help in the healing process!

Hadley - Thank you for your kind words. I have not yet written to the BOD, but I will. I work two jobs trying to get caught up on all of the medical expenses and rarely take time to do these things, but I will and I will post the response. I am also putting together a presentation regarding the challenges that bc patients and survivors face to present to key legislators. I am not asking for a bailout, just compassion and understanding.

When I spoke to Citibank, they were wonderful, dropped my interest rate to 0 and cut my payment in half. Bank of America is who I had problems with--spoke to them 5 or 6 times and each was a cold heart a**.

They just want their money, they don't care about BC. They are banks. Put your energies elsewhere.

Hello VJSL8 - Love La Quinta. You are having very good weather!
In response to your comment, I had a the same arrangement with Citi that lasted a year. When the year expired, I started receiving calls with snickers. I extended the program, but listening to monitors snickering as I explain my cancer treatment and the reason for the need for this program - is degrading. I (as you) am trying to do the right thing. I also have an arrangement with BA. I have a good program with them, but I will scream if I hear that one more representative's mother has BC at BA. They are lying. Sorry for the rant, but this is exactly why I feel I need to speak to legislators to help those of us who are working hard and trying to heal peacefully. Best wishes to you!

You are right, these are simply bottom line (or bottom feeder) collectors, but I would much rather put some of my energy to help women (and men) like us in the future be able to heal without the stress of dealing with creditors without empathy. Best to you!

Oh Hadley - I sure hope you have health insurance! I have heard that bumbling inept glee in the voices of creditors, my banks... It just amazes me how much strength it takes for us to heal without dealing alone. Many blessings to you.
