Stage 1 and Radiation

Options

My 54 yr old sis has Stage 1 diagnosis. She had surgery, was told there was no cancer in adjacent tissue or in her lymph nodes.  They canceled her scheduled oncology appointment but still plan to continue with the radiation.

My question:  Why not just stop treatment at this point. Seems as though radiation would only do more harm than good.

Has anyone on this forum ever done what I am proposing?

 Thank you for listening.

Hi Pablo, I realize this is an old post but my mom was disgnosed with stage I  last month and had a lumpectomy, no lymph nodes involved and the tumor came all out. She knew going into the surgery that if she chose lumpectomy and it turned out to be malignant that she'd need radiotherapy to decrease the chance of reoccurrance from 36 % to 3 % (quoted by her gynecologist/surgeon). If she wanted no radiation she needed a mastectomy.

Hope your sister is doing good and ready to put this whole episode behind for now.

She;s lucky to have such a caring brother,

My 65 yr old mom has Stage 1, had the lumpectomy, no cancer in adjacent tissue or in lymph nodes, but her doctor has her on chemo.  Her oncogene test showed that due to the type of cancer she had, it would be better to have chemo rather than radiation to prevent the cancer from coming back, and then hormone therapy.  Has your sister had the oncogene test?  My mom just started her first dose of chemo a week ago and she is having a hard time with it, but we're hoping that once it's done, it's done.

Your sister is lucky to have such a caring brother!
