    Hi All,

Just wondering for those Canadians who have had reconstruction what is the average timeline? I lost my boob on the 23rd of December and really cannot stand the way my body looks. I hide from myself naked as often as possible. I just start to cry otherwise. I can't wait to get a new boob and I am hoping beyond hope that my treatment allows for reconstruction.

I live in Ontario and will be getting treatment in Sudbury.

    Thanks

    Hi, timerdog,

Fully understand your feeling.  Everybody went through the same experience as you..........  If crying makes you feel better then just cry,   but remember if the life can be saved, there is ALWAYS a hope.

Based on your signature, your tumor is small, not agressive, and it's caught at early stage,  I do not understand why you had to remove your breast?  Usually for IDC women like you they do not remove the breast.  Was that recommended by your doctor and why?

    Hiya,

I had to delete that signature, I was given two path's reports. One they did a excisional biopsy where they removed a mass that was 5.5 cm. It was found to have an "invasive component" of 2 cm. Then when they did the mastectomy they found a very small tumor. According to the 2nd report I am a grade 2 stage 1b but.....the million dollar question is, did they combine the reports? Which report is the final report? Which report is used to determined treatment??? I hate this process. I have my first oncologist visit tomorrow.

Hopefully I will be more understanding of my situation.

The one after mastectomy should be more accurate and the final one, 'cause they can get a whole picture of the breast.  Maybe, the tumor is small but the invasive area is around 2cm?  You might or would hear a word "clear margin",  which means there are some scattered cancer cells around the tumor which need to be totally removed.

Write down all the questions on paper and bring it with you when you see your ONC.

Also, if you do not need radiation at this moment,  you could buy prosthesis before the reconstruction, it's under MSP and extended health care coverage.  If you need radiation and you can't bear the "flat look",   you could buy a kind of camisole specially for mastectomy women and put a cotton pad inside,  it will make your body shape look much better.
