20 %  of postmenopausal women have dense breast tissue-ARE you one of these women?

these women are at greater risk of getting breast and cancer

and mammograms do not work as well with them,so please see the following site

That is a great site - hopefully all states will one day follow Connecticut in making it mandatory to inform women of their breast density.

Just sent it to my mom and she sent it to my sister. My 73 YO mom had breasts of a 20YO. No sagging in my family.

I emailed my story to the website, about how my nearly 2 cm tumor was found 2 months after a "clean" mammo.   Dr. Cappello says she will be using my story on her site.   I would encourage others who had mammos fail them, to also submit your stories.

Great story...too bad California doesn't have the same laws. I am post menopausal and have dense breast tissue. I have a sister who was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer at the age of 35. I had a lump removed back in 2004 which was diagnosed as Atypical Hyperplasia and have had a very difficult time getting further examinations past the Mammogram. I often must call the insurance company and argue over my request for a breast ultrasound.

Yeah, when I was incredulous that my BS still wanted to do mammos, she said "density decreases with age".  So that's nice.   So I am just supposed to sit around and wait for my boobs to grow less dense each year and hope the mammos catch it next time?   I don't think so.

    Hello Fearless,

The only thing Mammos have detected is that I have severe fibrocystic breast disease. Which test have you found are most effective in detecting changes in the breast?

Back in 2005 when I had better health coverage, I had a Rodeo MRI at the City of Hope which concluded that I have many areas which should be watched carefully.

May I ask what PBLM is?

Mine were dense. This factor played into my decision to have a bilateral mastectomy.

The general consensus of whether denseness is a hazard has varied over time. It's a risk, it's not, it is.

Hey Lago, the denseness didn't keep the girls upright for me, no such luck. I had the Grandma boobs w/o the Grands to go along them!

Let me add, a PBLM is a Prophylactic Bilateral Mastectomy, pinkrose.

Best wishes Fearless, on your upcoming surgery.

    Support a woman's right to chose...mastectomy.

PinkRose, I have found the only thing that ever actually showed my tumor was a PEM scan.   The ultrasound confirmed a mass, but I had to "guide" the tech to where I felt the lump.  Even my MRI's to date have seemed inconclusive.

Like Missispqueen, I have also opted for a mastectomy due to my concern about them not finding a new tumor .

    Fearless, Missispiqueen,

    Thank you for the information.

Fearless, hope all goes well on your upcoming surgery.

The only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible.
