Rib Pain

I was diagnosed with IDC last July--had lumpectomy, 6 rounds of FEC-T chemo and am in midst of radiation treatments. As treatment started, had bone scan and chest xray and all clear. My lumpectomy was in my right breast. Last November, I got pretty sick with a bad cough. Had chest xray and was clear except they did say that I had slight bronchitis in my left lung. I was coughing like crazy but it gradually cleared just as I was finishing chemo. Since around that time, I started getting rib pain on my left side underneath breast (more to left). I mentioned to Doc and he said he would check on it but is hard during chemo because of all the aches/pains. If the pain continued, then we would doublecheck. I met with him again on Monday and he ordered another bone scan. He said it is "unlikely" that there is something serious but I am pretty worried that it may be something. I am trying to stay positive but it is so hard. My bone scan is tomorrow and my results should be back by Friday--hoping for the best.

Hoping that it will be absolutely nothing cancer related.  The testing  and then the waiting is such horror.  Wish I could fast forward it all for you.  Keep us posted.  Sending all good thoughts and prayers.

Praying for a good outcome. Hopefully, your rib is sore from all that coughingSmile and not from anything cancer related. Prayers are with you/

I also went through a time when I had rib pain. Xray showed "something" but bone scan said all clear. Hope yours is just as good.

Hey Rachel, I had enormous pain that I thought was rib pain-I had had pneumonia with adelecysis and the coughing was terrbile. But in my case, come to find out, i had developed IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). It truly feels like a broken rib and pain is awful when it flairs and boy the stress of BC triggered everything. I am on meds for the IBS and the rib pain is gone. Saying prayers for you and let us know ASAP, what is going on when you find out. Biggest gentle hugs!! SV

Thanks everyone. I got my results today and my bone scan was "fine". Doc said everything looked fine. He has no idea what is causing my soreness on one side -- I will follow up with my family doc to see if she has any ideas.

Google Costochondritis. See if it fits into your symptoms. I have it and it is so painful I literally takes my breath away!
