Additional Chemo

Hi:

My mom was DX TNBC in July. At time of DX her tumor was 4.5cm and she had enlarged lymph nodes measuring 2.5cm. She had a petscan at DX and there was no metastasis. She did AC x4 and Tx 4 DD. The tumor shrunk completely and her nodes were no longer enlarged. She had a repeat petscan prior to her surgery- all clear nothing lit up and they thought she had gotten PCR. However after her BMX on Dec. 10th the path report showed residual cancer in 3 out of 19 nodes. The tumor was all gone but some remaining cancer in nodes. We talked to her Onc who in the past had done additional chemo post surgery when neo-adjuvent failed to produce PCR. Given her TNBC status and residual cancer in nodes more chemo sounds like a sure way to help reduce her risk of recurrence.

Was wondering if anyone on here has been in a similar situation where neo-adjuvent failed to producer PCR and so then then did additional chemo post surgery. Her Onc wants to do either carbo/gem combo or Ixempra/carbo combo - 12 treatments over 4 months. From what I have read Ixempra has some heavy duty SE's and given the fact that this is more of a precautionary measure in case there were any resistant cells left somewhere I'm leaning towards her getting the carbo/gem combo.

Any insight or advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Diane
