I am thinking of doing the Avon walk this year-goes right thru NYC. Anyone else thinking of doing it? Oct. sounds so far away, but I need to get myself in shape to make it...lol. Has anyone walked it in the past? How was it?

Hi, thank you so much for posting this. I want to do this! I want my life back. I am finishing chemo on the first week of Feb...surgery then rads in April...do you think its doable? I'm optimistic that it's a walk not a "run". Maybe I can do it...

Wow! Great ambition! Me, no way would I have been able to accomplish this on your schedule. The tired factor hung around forever and ever. I applaud you and your goal. Just take it one day at a time. Chemo will be over soon, great for you! I hope all works out well for you! Keep me posted!

Hi!  I registered for the 2009 NYC walk, but had to postpone my participation due to chemo fatigue and SE's.  I ended up walking last year (2010).  I enjoyed it.  My friend and I walked the 26.2 miles the first day, which, was harder than I thought it would be.  I just thought, "It's only walking...it's not like I'm RUNNING a marathon!"  But by mile 22, or so, my whole  body hurt and my feet had blisters, and I couldn't wait to get the last few miles over with!  I was in good physical shape pre BC, but sort of never got back to where I was (even now!)  I didn't train one iota for the walk, so I thought I didn't do so bad, considering.

Good luck if you decide to to it!

Wow Sherrill, congrats on the walk! I think I am going to try it. I guess you are not required to walk the whole 26 miles the first day, you can stop 1/2 way and a bus takes you back to the "camp". So I think it will be doable. How did the fundraising go? I'm thinking this is where I might have to get creative, but I guess Avon gives you suggestions on ways to go about it.
