Good fortune, Chickadee, and thank you for your dedication and service. You walk the walk, you amazing woman, and I so admire you! Holding you in my thoughts until you get safely back home. I know you're doing admin stuff, but it is still a relief zone. You go, woman!

    Hi all,

It still hurts to type, but I'm coming along. I'm allowed to pick up nothing heavier than a coffee cup for now.  Light typing is allowed.

Lot of pages to read.  I've been sacked out in my big leather reclining chair for the past three days, away from the computer - partly because I'm taking pain killers and partly because I don't want Clint Eastwood talking to it (danger of leaving an empty chair).

        Chickadee: you are THE WOMAN!!

Thanks for all the good wishes.  Hand starting to hurt more.  Going back to the ice.

alexandria ... good to see you.  Wishing you quick healing so you can soon be back to typing away!  In the meantime we'll just bring drinks to your chair and add a straw so you don't have to pick them up.

I almost feel sorry for Clint Eastwood. Someone should have told him that even though the evening was full of koo koos (Marco Rubio comes to mind) - politicians are never held accountable for their insanity. Only Hollywood actors are. (Ducking for cover from "the invisible hand").

Chickadee - safe travels - you are a special lady

The story about the empty chair and your president's response made it on our news this morning.

Chickadee - you are truly great.  Take good care of yourself.  We'll keep you in our thoughts - write if you can.

Alexandria - we miss you, but DON'T type if it hurts.  Remember, ice is your friend.  (Gin with ice would be good too, no doubt Laughing)

I am watching Rachel Maddow. She is making the point(which I didn't know) that the reason why the Romney campaign didn't show the candidates video just before Romney's speech (which is what is always done by both parties) was because they wanted to get Eastwood in the air in prime time. He was the "surprise" piece de resistance. He ended up being a disaster of course, and the Romney video itself, which was quite good, as all such videos are, was missed by the bulk of American (non cable) TV viewers. Wow. The Republicans were always such good planners, but this time and in 2008 they are operating as thought they had ADHD. No planning, no anticipating.

And they style themselves as good at business.

No wonder Wall Street is such a disaster.

Blue....loved that.  I think you are all right about the Reps.  They are so out of touch I'd be fearful of taking their directions for how to get across the street.  Re: C. Eastwood --- past his prime some time back indicative of the majority of Reps now.  Sigh!!!!

Chickadee, you go girl!!! Stay well. I know you'll be working your butt off.

I would LOVE to see Robert Redford at the Dem convention!!! Sigh. He's always tugged at my heartstrings. And Clooney would be a good second, certainly!

We're enjoying THE PRINCESS BRIDE on TV (again) and Blue Moon rising. (Uh-oh. Full moon, blue moon, and holiday weekend. Do we need to put on our riot gear and get ready to talk about brussel sprouts??)

Mods must be watching the calendar...and trying to be pre-emptive. We'll see...

I am a "Legends of the Fall" early, long-haired Brad Pitt admirer myself.

Chickadee-take care. You're doing an honorable thing.

Paul Newman was just sexy.  And his love for Joann Woodward was just sexy.

And Newman made/makes good salad dressing ... and donated the proceeds to charity.  Class act all around.  Redford is heavily involved in environmental issues.  Always makes my little heart race when I get emails and letters from him Wink even if he is always just wanting me to donate money.

Yeah, Chickadee - YOU are my hero(ine) truly, think of us thinking of you  and THANKING you for your good work.

Ok, I can't find the picture - but it was From the Terrace - just after Newman meets the Woodward character - and the movie screen ( remember when they were BIG) is FILLED, and I mean FILLED with a close up of his eyes.  Mostly I remember everyone in the theater GASPED out loud.

Love the picture of the back of the President of the United States chair, and makes me SMILE, to think of who is sitting in it.  I know everyone has their favorite picture, this one is mine:http://www.nytimes.com/2012/05/24/us/politics/indelible-image-of-a-boys-pat-on-obamas-head-hangs-in-white-house.html

Hope all are having a great day....can't remember if I saw the movie Julia, just remember how much I loved Pentimento.

    Alexandria - happy healing hand...

Interesting letter to the editor in my newspaper this a.m.  To paraphrase "If it's acceptable for Clint Eastwood to pretend to talk to an invisible Obama sitting in a chair, then perhaps George Clooney could go onstage at the Democratic Convention and talk to an empty suit (Romney) in a walk-in closet"Cool.

    Sunflowers:

I read Pentimento a long time ago.  I remember liking it very much.

Someone called it right on the empty chair.  The Obama that certain people are raving about is an imaginary person, and the people yelling about him are seeing their own reality, filling the empty chair with a non-existent person who personifies all their worst fears.  Clint Eastwood just made that dramatically clear.

Typing better today.  Might try writing later.  YAY!
