Having a s l o w day - I hate those. The post office mis-delivered the flip phone I had ordered, so I had to call my wireless carrier to correct the error. My smartphone managed to drop the call twice, including once because my (small) ear kept inadvertently dialing numbers.
I made them ship the flip phone overnight. Can't wait to get rid of my smartphone....Nice to have a normal, ergonomically comfortable phone with normal, regular, everyday keys. :-)
I say that both smartphones and Twitter are fads that will eventually be forgotten by history. Facebook will remain, but with considerably less fanfare, and tablets are here to stay.

Kam: with cats, they lick themselves and then they shed. Tiny bits of fur get everywhere. I have two cats, and there's fur everywhere, even in rooms they don't enter.
Having a happy day. My two daughters are here. Katie - 19 year old is still living here while she goes to college. Jenny - 25 - visiting from CA. Katie went to the gym, Jen is still sleeping, but it's sooo good to have them here.

I am a dog lover, but I can't stand it when people bring their dogs into the grocery store. The signs say "service animals only", but I have a feeling they are not all service animals.

Dander is dried saliva. Sounds gross, doesn't it? But I love my cats anyway!
-
Mary, I love all furry creatures. However, I feel the same way about babies. I LOATHE them. (I know, I'm Satan - you're supposed to love children). As for toddlers - there has to be a better word than loathing. One reason why I never visit suburbs.
It would be ok of they had no vocal chords, because they are sweet enough to look at, but I can't stand the sound of the crying, and even less the fact that parents seem to think they are entitled to have their child create a mess everywhere and everyone has to kowtow and say "how sweet" otherwise you are being an inhumane Victorian. Meanwhile, my eardrums are bursting, and I am bored to tears. While people are marvelling at disgusting things like their excrement and their development, I am wishing we were like other animals who grow up much faster.
I know so many people adore toddlers, so I apologize. I used to simply hate them. Now, after putting up with nieces and nephews, I abhor them. Thank God there are no toddlers in the family anymore. Now, the helicopter parenting is less invasive. My nieces are wonderful, and I will deal with my nephews when they reach puberty.
Nothing is sweeter than a cub. I find children useless, boring and demanding. Wild animals teach one more.
(Sorry if I shocked anyone.)

Dogs can stay home by themselves-babies can't. I also don't understand people who have to bring their dogs everywhere with them-only to leave them in the car.

Athena, I find babies dull--all they do is eat, spit and poo. toddlers are much more interesting--at least they have opinions. Older kids better still if they have been raised properly. I am constantly amazed at adults who have raised their children to be in charge--many people tell me that my monsters are awesome (and they are!) but honestly so much of it seems to me to be that people are astonished by regular use of please thankyou and no thankyou which was really not that hard to teach.
I am a cat person--dogs smell funny and require so much more attention. that said, I was never bothered by all the dogs in France or Europe in general. They were all well behaved and seemed to sit nicely under the tables in cafes as opposed to the majority of children in restaurants in the US. And now that owners are being trained NOT to let the dogs do the deed on the sidewalk things are swell. That said Mary I also do not get hauling your dog out in the car to sit when surely they would be happier at home on the sofa. . . .
The Fremont Troll is one of my favorite sculptures. . . .I visit it regularly. As for the Hobbit, I can only say the traditional paper cover with mountains and trees caught my eye as a child, even though it was way high on a shelf in the living room. All the other books my mother owned had plain dull covers but the Hobbit was MAGIC!!! I had to climb on the back of an armchair to pull it down, read in secret (the logic of a child that if its on the top shelf you must be violating the rules to read it) and loved every word. I look forward to the movie though has some pangs of concern now that the book is being turned into 3 movies!

Hi Friends,
I'm a dog person too. Right now I only have two. And I think that's going to be it. I'm getting old and want to be able to travel and go places, and I just can't do that with two dogs at home. They've never been boarded before.
Gumby ... I'm so sorry, we're probably one of those people you were talking about on the airplane. My sis and I brought a weiner dog back with us from Oregon. My cousin was dying and wanted us to take her dog home with us. What a challenge it is traveling from coast to coast with a small dog in carrier.
Athena ... I'm not big on kids either. But I absolutely adore my two grandsons! They are of course the best and brightest kids in the whole world.
Alex ... How wonderful to have both your girls home with you. My son and his family are in San Diego and I miss them so much.
Mary ... I don't understand why people drive around with their dogs either. You can't leave them in the car unattended in this heat.
Well, I've had a horrible morning at the dermatologist office. She cut five spots off of me and burned one off my hand. Between this doctor and the dentist, I am just sick of being stuck, poked and prodded.
Hope everyone is having a great day,
hugs,
Bren
PS ... Monsta ... we were typing at the same time. I love babies. Love they way they smell and feel. Once they get old enough to have an opinion, I lose interest in them.
-
Well being a teacher I find children fascinating. Babies are boring, but they do smell nice. Toddlers tire me out now that I'm older, but I love their excitement about learning new things.
I have 2 dogs but would never think to bring them to a store. They are just fine at home by them selves. I do have a dear friend who is blind and deaf, so without her service dog she would be completely house bound.
BinVa, so sorry you had such a bad day today at the Dermatologis's office.
-
Ah, babies. I should probably not have an opinion since I have none of my own, but I love babies. I love them when they are little blobs with gummy smiles. I don't even mind baby poo, but not on me. I don't like them once they're old enough to start saying, "No!" As I'm making faces and trying to make babies smile, DH always says, "Why are you doing that? You hate children!" My response is, "I am a mammal, dear, and my mammal/primate instincts make me want to pick up the defenseless little blob. Toddlers -- take them far, far away."
I always compliment parents on well-behaved children, and have occasionally addressed a child directly (with parents present, of course) and thanked it for doing something particularly well, nicely or kindly (holding the door, picking up something someone dropped, controlling itself when it clearly wants to scream), or for just generally being good. They LOVE being thanked, and I like to see their little wiggly smiles. I figure if I'm going to be generally dyspeptic about ill-behaved children, I should be generally complimentary to well-behaved ones. That's MY personal Fairness Doctrine!
I do sound like a crabby old lady, don't I?

Petscan results are in. Possible metastesis to spine. Went for Xrays and technician says doesn't look like it to her so I'm in limbo waiting for onc to call me.
-
Oh ((((Blue)))) Waiting is horrible. We're waiting with you, with fingers crossed for negative results. And techs see thousands of these every month, so I'd hold out for what the tech thinks.
-
Blue ... I am so anxious for you to talk to the oncologist. When is that going to happen? Possible mets suck the big lemon. I hope it's not for real and it's something else.
love you,
Bren
-
Hoping the tech is right. Waiting is no fun.
-
That was 40 in American temp speak - still cold though.
(((((((((Blue))))))))) - Wouldn't an MRI be a better test for them to do.
-
Oh Blue-I sure hope the tech is right.
Susie-she can't have MRI's because she has metal in her body.
Mary
-
Oh (((((Blue)))) When are you going to talk to the oncologist? I'm sending good vibs up that the tech is right. As lindasa said they see so many xrays, and are pretty good at reading them themselves.
-
Wait a sec, Blue....
1) What is the source of the info about "possible metastasis"? (If the technician is not an MD his/her opinion doesn't count - although s/he could be right, of course)
2) WHEN is your onc calling? Today? Can you call him/her?
If we're going to keep vigil with you, which we are, we have to know details, my friend....
-
((((BLUE)))
HOPING that the tech is right and no mets!!! Whatever good vibs I can send out in the universe, will do so for you!
-
Mary - sorry, I forgot
-
Hey, Susie-I'm surprised I remembered!

Mary
-
Waiting is awful. I hope that the technician is right, and the scan is showing a much more benign possible activity.
-
Blue - Keeping everything crossed and sending love...
-
((((Blue))))
-
(((((Blue))))) Love you!
-
Hugs to you Blue. Hope, hope, hoping that the technician is correct. Just to let you know, I saw my pet scan and arthritis also made things "blossom", so maybe it's "just" arthritis...
Kam, I've seen dogs in the grocery store, hardware stores, lots and lots and lots of wineries (there's even a book out about the winery dogs...), the train, buses, restaurants and Starbucks. Many of the places are supposed to permit only "service" animals, but I've been a silent listener and heard people talking about how "you just have to say your <fill in the blank> is a service animal and they have to let you take it in". They aren't bad people, they just don't understand that some of us have difficulties that are made much worse by the presence of their little (or sometimes big) loved ones.
I've never been to France, but if we ever do make it, I'll be sure to let my hubby know about the possibility of dogs most everywhere....
-
Athena, hahaha, you go where others dare not tread! But, believe me, it's DIFFERENT when that little screaming cherib is yours. I always said God made babies cute, because otherwise they'd never survive. : )
-
I say god gave us babies when we are young or we wouldn't survive!
-
Blue, praying the tech is correct! They do see tons of those images. ((((HUGS))))
-
Since our records go on data base, my onc has access to the actual xrays. He can see them and let me know if its mets or not. I called but he's seeing patients so its wait and see.
