Barb, I might just take you up on your offer some day.  Love your guest room.

Jezza, Virgil belongs to me or I belong to him, heheheh, and he's a Toy Fox Terrier.

Thank you to all my buddies for chiming in.  You are the greatest!

I'm off to visit with my grandson today.

P.S.  Shirley, I don't remember posting those pics about President Bush.  I do think he was a few fries short of a happy meal (and so does the rest of the world) but I never posted it over and over and over again.  Peace.

Good morning all!  Just sitting here reading the news sites and found this story from Sweden that tickled my funny bone.

    http://www.theindychannel.com/news/29122322/detail.html

Drunk Moose Found Stuck In Apple Tree

My favorite line from the article ... "In the wind I heard something screaming with a very dark voice," Johansson told CNN. "At first I wondered if it was the crazy neighbors,"

Was glad to see that the authorities just left the moose to sleep it off!

Sunflowers ... agreed.  But it is what it is and we just all need to know that and work around it.  This is still a very very nice B&G and place to visit with and support our friends ... old and new ... and it will continue to be just that regardless.

Good to see you again Belinda and jeeza.  Looks like Barbara and blue are already off to start their day.  It's going to take another few cups of coffee before I start anything. Tongue out

I thought this was an interesting article explaining the omission of Canada from Bush's thankyou list after 9/11.  Although it didn't ruffle my feathers, there was a lot of resentment about it then and even now.

WR, that article was hillarious!  Especially since I live in an apple orchard.  No moose here though we do have a lot of deer around.

pip ... Canadians are entitled to be resentful about that.  The article makes it even worse IMO.   But the American people know what the Canadians did for us and we appreciate it!  I guess that whole thing might be a lesson in how we take our most helpful and trustworthy friends for granted all too often.

Pip .. thanks for the article.  My favorite line, "We .. just forgot."  I guess Canada is such a far off place and so tiny, it was easy to overlook!

Rabbit .. that poor drunk moose.  Still can't figure out how he got in that tree!

Blue .. have fun today with George.

Hope everyone has a good day!

It is very difficult to be supportive of, and embracing of people who time and time again attack you.  Doesn't matter what day of the week it is when that happens.

It is also difficult to sit by idly while falsehoods are being posted about you and your friends on a public thread.  The fact that it is public means that every member of BCO is allowed to post here.  If you want a private place to throw insults at women with breast cancer, then go right ahead and start one.  This isn't it.  When you post something insulting or hurtful publicly about me, or about my friends, don't be surprised when you get a public response.

I have tried to minimize my contributions to this thread, but since so many of the worst offenders apparently have me on ignore I can't send them a PM to alert them to their offensive words, so I am forced to publicly call them out.

Sunflowers, I believe that the moderators have asked many times that we not refer to other sites on this thread.

"just STOP IT.  Leave us alone.  We don't go to where you post & bother you."

Many of us have been members of this board since long before you arrived, and you don't get to run us off. This is our place too, so please lay off the insults.

hugs pat mom, haven't been in chat in a while.

Please, EVERYONE be respectful.  No one has ownership of anyone else in body or thoughts.

we all should be adult enough to agree or agree to disagree that does not preclude comments just let them be respectful.

'Morning everyone. I slept almost 11 hours - after spending weeks complaining of insomnia. Be careful what you ask for. Boy, oh boy, shaking mane, hoping cubs and rest of pride haven't moved on while I dozed.

It's always the jingoism factor - attack people from another country. I don't bother to visit or read web sites or threads that are of no interest to me and that according to accounts say things I disagree with.

I invite certain people to do the same. Just don't come. If you are looking for free drinks, sorry, we don't have specials right now. If you are looking to enforce BCO rules (note the sarcasm) then you may start off with yourselves, be cordial, stop the jingoism and keep the goat in the pen, as it were.

PatMom said ..."It is very difficult to be supportive of, and embracing of people who time and time again attack you.  Doesn't matter what day of the week it is when that happens. ...  It is also difficult to sit by idly while falsehoods are being posted about you and your friends on a public thread."

I can certainly agree with that sentiment.  The board who must not be named is also public.  Those of us who are insulted there do not even have the option to respond there ... and you all have the authority over there to delete anything you don't agree with immediately.

I'm seeing a large disconnect between preaching and practice here.  We would probably all like to be able to say and do whatever we want with no consequences ... while at the same time stopping other people from doing the same.  So I suppose I can understand your wish to have just that.  Probably not ever going to work out that way ... we're all human.

Personally I would much prefer to talk about other things and that is what we do 99.9% of the time.

Another beautiful day in Edmonton. We have had temps in the high 20's low 30's so it should be heading east for all of you to enjoy one last kick at summer.

It's also an interesting tactic: a discussion on the problems that ail our country and affects us all (Canadians included, as Lassie pointed out)  is diverted. Rather anti-intellectual, which to me is never a good thing, although I realize that for others it is. In a race to not debate ideas, jingoism and other interruptions happen.

Doesn't that sound a lot like what happens in American political life? Remember how some of us were complaining that Obama's ideas got side tracked in the cacophony of ideologically bankrupt opponents whose sole purpose was to torpedo him (and wage a war on science)? Rather similar to what is happening here, what... Not that I or anyone else is Obama - we are merely posters exchanging ideas.

It seems that some people don't like ideas or trains of thought.

I think, ladies and genetlemen, that the political discussion here continues in the attitudes of some posters who are breaking their own rules by interrupting discourse with diversion tactics, as is done in my town of Washington.

And, WR, as you imply, we here can't break a filibuster. This is the more august and egalitarian Senate, perhaps (whose meandering slowness makes breaking a filibuster very hard these days)? Maybe House rollicking governs other territories, I don't know.

The moral of the story: any political discussion on this thread is in compliance with BCO rules because it really does affect many posters' mental and physical health. :-)

And so we're all happy. Foot in mouth

Just finished listening to "Wait, Wait . . . " and thinking about Cherryl the whole time.  Henry Winkler (the special celebrity guest) was very, very funny and totally adorable.

As for the drive-by's: no comment.

Gorgeous Fall day in NE - blue sky, lots of sunshine, thiings are finally beginning to dry!

Blue, just making a point with those photos of Bush.  Do you consider that hate speech and would Canada prosecute if those images were being thrown around in Canada.  And I so loved the "movie" of a sitting president being assassinated.  Hate speech?  And since you brought it up..."I do think he was a few fries short of a happy meal (and so does the rest of the world) but I never posted it over and over and over again."..... do you not think that statement is disrespectful?

I see you do read often on another website.  That's perfectly fine.  I will say it again.  If you want to discuss us why don't you start a site where you can feel free to vent?  Or, if you want to discuss politics, why don't you start a site where you can do just that with like minded people?  I say that with respect because we were told to go elsewhere with our opinions.  So, no, not everyone is welcome on this thread.  And, the mods have made the decision that we should not discuss politics.

And, while I'm here, I know what Canada did for us when 9/11 happened.  And I believe Americans truly appreciate the kindness.  9/11 brought the WORLD together.  People all over Europe were "with" us.  And we appreciate every country who said prayers for our country or virtually held our hands and grieved with us.  Yes, we remember our neighbors and the heartfelt kindness shown to us.

I'm not here trying to stir up trouble.  My name was mentioned so I thought I had a right to respond.

I have also been amused twice in the last couple of days by the references to not visiting here or any place you all post if I do not agree with you.  First of all, this is a non profit benefiting from tax preferences established by the US government and the non-profit owns the servers, the business, the forums, and the threads.  As a former tax professional, I think I can make that observation.  I also happen to know that this non-profit is (at least) incorporated in Pennsylvania and possibly other states as well.  Presumably we can all use those forums and threads as long as we obey the rules.  One of the rules is discussing politics.  I have my own opinions about the political strife in this country but there are many sites on the Internet to express those not on BCO according to the rules.

This would be amusing if it were so well coordinated to get the mods to intervene and "stop the politics".  A quick mention about a speech leads to all this?  Posters mentioning the horrific events of 9/11 leads to this?  All this admonishment of not talking about poliitcs?  Posters here not appreciating a picture posted here meant to inflame Canadians and WE are told not to mention politics?  Puleeze!

    Literally?

(So funny you should use that image, Athena.  I was just thinking about how common it is to hear "literally" used as a term of general emphasis, as in, "My jaw  literally dropped to the floor.")

Maybe in this case it IS literally true!
