Kam, I kind of hate to suggest this, but have you considered a mild, temporary tranquilizer for Emma? It worked wonders for Chloe when she was having anxiety attacks, due to her brain tumor.

Kam, now that I know you've never had kittens before, I can understand your worry about a seemingly helpless, little 4-pawed animal getting beaten up by his big sister.  Let me assure you, it WILL NOT HAPPEN!  Remember that a major part of kitten play is learning to fight.  Quinn is desperate to play with Emma.  She's equally desperate to show him who's boss in her little cat world.  At the same time, she won't want to do anything that will make you mad at her.  Meanwhile, he's clinging to you for the warmth and the love that he used to get from his siblings.

Yorkie's idea of a sedative might ease her way into "detente" with Quinn.  I hate to hear that Quinn is crying out for you during the night.  However, I can guarantee that if you let him sleep with you as a kitten, he will definitely want to crawl up to your face and disturb your sleep -- every night!

DH and I had a kitten years ago (named Mountain Lion - don't ask) he thought the best place to sleep might be my head with his tail under my nose - I have had a lifelong severe allergy to cat fur - it was an interesting summer - he finally decided under the bed was cooler.

Kam, you're kitten is so cute.  I'm going to stay out of the suggestion box, though, as like Glenna, I have severe allergies.  Haven't had kittens since I was a kid, and we never had more than one cat at a time - so anything I'd have to say would be pretty much useless.  I'm certain you'll get it all worked out, though.

Our kids sleep with us.  Forrest sleeps pressed up against me as hard as he can press and he stretches out (he is a BIG boy) to press as much of himself against me as he can.  He wants to snuggle with his mother, Peaches, during the day - but she is a crabby old thing and most of the time wants him to Go Away.  Except when she is cold, at which point SHE snuggles with him and he is happy. 

They get into tussles fairly frequently even though they are mother and son.  He is twice her size, and he has never really grown up (he thinks he is still a kitten and he "nursed" on her for a year!).  He wants to play more frequently than she does, which leads to a fair amount of growling and screaming, some of it at night.  While we yell at them, it does seem that some amount of tussling and "fighting" is natural, even for a mother and son.

I can't give any advice with kitties but I had a similar problem when I introduced Wendel to Lilah.   All he wanted to do was play with her and all she could do was run and hide or turn and growl.  Took them both out for a walk one day and they've been friends ever since.  Can you hold one under each arm and sit with them?

Xiao my little Tonkinese cat, liked to sleep on my face when he was a kitten.  He still sleeps with me, but he's no longer on my face. He likes to curl up next to my side or my legs.  He's also very attached to me,but has more independence now as a cat than he did as a kitten. Hopefully, Quin will grow a little more independent too.  Enjoy.  They are kittens for a short time.

I have some good news to report, but too hard to do on an Iphone.  C4C , I think you are right, this being my first kitten, I just wasn't sure what behavior was appropriate (and not harmful for Quinn).  Some of the breakthrough is about my perspective! More later when I'm out from under my new baby.

Great suggestions.  Glad things are looking up Kam.  It should continue to get easier.  Gone all day today to V.A. in Marion.....didn't get back home till after 5 p.m.  Major stop at Sam's though to load up.  Sure makes for a long day.

Kam ... Quinn is adorable!  Love his face and his coloring!  Having brought a boy kitten home to 2 adult girl cats I have to say that it will be a good thing in the long run if Emma asserts her authority a bit and teaches him cat manners.  I had one cat who did - she'd slap him and literally sit on him when he got too wild with her.  Those 2 ended up very bonded.  The other girl cat ran from him rather than confront him and she never did learn to like him.  Sidney (kitten) slept in a guinea pig size cage at night for quite a while.  It was originally intended to be for his protection from older cats and big dogs ... but turned out it protected them from his never ending kitten energy so they could sleep in peace.  And I'd give Emma some extra attention so she can feel secure about her place in the household.  Maybe give them both treats whenever you bring them together, feed them together, and such. 

Tired of wintery days.  We've had just a couple of really nice days.  Just enough to make me want more.

I am confused about my geography, too!  I spent two months in Aiken, SC while my horse was there for training.  Since the internet isn't really a "thing" there yet, I didn't have much access so didn't post here much unless I was in Boston for my clinical trial.  Anyway, I am back home in Maryland now and hope to post here more often!

Beautiful kitten, by the way.  I do love  me some cats.  My own cat was full o' joy at my return and hasn't left my side since.  She spent my first night home patting my face at all hours.  

Just a quick trial update:  tumors appear stable on scans but one tumor marker suddenly shot up while the other decreased slightly.  My oncologist is baffled.  In the meantime I've had bouts of horrendous pain followed by....nothing.  My onc, at my request, is going to repeat the bone scan on April 2.  I hope we get answers rather than the "we think maybe possibly but am not sure" bullshit that drives  crazy.  The  Is SCIENCE, people!

Can't believe it's the first day of Spring.  It's only 55 degrees out.  My daffodils look pretty though.

Suz .. glad to hear you're back in MD.  I've missed you.  Did you trailer Sampson home by yourself?  I hope you didn't make that drive alone.

That's a mystery about the tumor markers.  It's very frustrating ... rather have something definitive so we know what we're up against and can get busy getting rid of it.  That's also weird about having such horrendous pain and then nothing.  Wonder if there is some kind of nerve compression going on.  Just guessing ... wish you didn't have to go through that awful pain.

The ice has finally melted so I'm able to walk the dogs again today.  Then I have my six month check up with the doctor.  The worst part of the whole thing is getting on that damn scale!

PS .. Kam .. your kitten is so cute.  I have Comcast and on their home page today they had an exact picture of your new kitten.  The coloring was the same and so were the ears!!!

Well, I am not a cat person at all, but have a happy cat story to report.

My relative who is in her 80s moved across the country in the fall and wasn't able to take her beloved cat with her for various reasons. Now she is settled where the cat could join her.  There was much planning, acquiring a suitable carrier and coordinating with her.  Yesterday a friend (who likes cats) and I picked up the cat from where he was staying, drove two hours to the airport, and turned him over to the air cargo people hoping that the long flight would go well and the reunion would be happy.  I just had a call from my relative who reported that the cat arrived safely and by the end of the night had snuggled into bed with her. Cat and lady are both very happy.

Whenever I return from a vacation, my kitty is glued to me.  I trip over him as he is litterly underfoot.  

KAM...sounds like things are going as they should.  Emma needs to make it clear to the new by that she is in charge.  And he needs to be taught his place in the pecking order.  It may look and sound violent, it is just posturing.

I did all of the driving but DD was my faithful sidekick.  My sis drove separately in her car to scout put gas stations with a large enough turn-around for our huge rig.  It took 13 hours.  I am still recovering!

It is 56 here today and will be about 10 degrees hotter tomorrow.  Then a dip in temps for a bit.  Though we could get the odd storm which has happened many times, it looks like very early Spring is actually here.  Just as one of my bestest friends sent me two of those knitted ruffled neck scarves.  The colors are gorgeous......but they are not put away and won't be till I'm sure.

No time to watch news but it sounds like maybe the missing plane will have been sighted off the Australian coastline.  I hope so.....it has been so utterly wearing on the family members waiting for word.

E...hope you can get lots of rest and be ready for a good first week-end back home.  Sure glad you had "company" on the way back home.

Bren - 55, that's SUMMER.  I scraped 2 inches of ice pellets off my windsheild this am, and it is now s-n-o-w-i-n-g.  The white stuff. As dave barry would say, "I am not making this up."

ENJOYFUL - so good to hear you are well.  Sorry to have ta tell you, it's an ART ( or in your case in Bawstahn, an AHHHT) not a science at all.

Hope you are more pain free every day - REST - you've had a long, long, long trip...so glad you have helpers, tho.

Wow .. Enjoyful that was one helluva trip back from SC.  13 hours pulling a horse trailer with multiple horses is a BIG DEAL.  How'd Sampson and Bindi handle the trip?

Mary .. It got up to 60 degrees this afternoon.  Yay!  I'm even going to get the riding mower out tomorrow and start cleaning up the yard.  Have a bunch of leaves to grind up that I missed last fall.

I saw my doctor for my 6 month check up today.  I'm fine.  The only problem is those damn night terrors.  For awhile there I was getting them about 3 times a week.  She said it's not from my meds as the night terrors seem to come in clusters.  She suggested journaling might help.  Apparently, I may be more upset about some things than I let on.  I am really worried about KK's aneurysm.  She has an MRA tomorrow at UVA to see if it has gotten any bigger.  She is not a candidate for the coiling procedure due to her "tortious" arteries.  If you guys remember, would you keep my sis in your thoughts tomorrow?

One more thing!  I may have a new client.  I got an email from a doctor today in Oregon who wanted to know if I could train him in how to do dictation.  What a hoot.  I tried to help him as best I could ... just hoping he uses the info and buys the digital recorder!!  And hires me to do his reports!  He's a law enforcement forensic Ph.D.

You guys have been busy. Me too, coordinating indoor / outdoor cats, two food and sleeping regimes, places where one cat is allowed, the other not and the new little one, 3 lbs wants to sleep under the covers!!  Yikes....I could squish her.  I'm pooped.  Need to find some quiet time to catch up.

Cats are doing better.  They were both on either side of my lap last night.  Emma hisses, and even swats, but when she can sneak a smell from behind, she does.  Heated animals beds are a godsend, btw.  I feel ok leaving them unsupervised, together.

Kam, that is awesome news! Little Quinn will let you know if you are rolling over on him. Matter of fact he'll probably be long gone before you are even aware that he was close enough to get squashed! Rest up mom!

Yorkie - I'm not so sure.  My gf's son, when he was very young, was camping out on the living room floor with his young kitten.  Not good news for the kitten - he was flattened!

Today I moved the new cat bed that warms up when the cat lays (ok, grammar wise, I'm sure I've used the wrong version of this word) on it.  Both of my cats love it - I call it the kitten babysitter as he spends a good amount of time there.  If I can get Emma out of it, I'm going to put it by my head tonite for Quinn.  As I type, he's trying to get the bed back from Emma - hiss and yell!
